To capture an entire webpage in one tall image, use your browser’s full-page command: Firefox offers Take Screenshot → Save full page, Chrome exposes Capture full size screenshot through DevTools, and Edge provides Web Capture → Capture full page. On phones, long-capture controls depend on the device and app. Let the page finish loading, scroll through it once so lazy content appears, save the result, and inspect the top, middle, and bottom before sharing it.
What a whole-page screenshot captures
A viewport screenshot contains only the visible area. A full-page screenshot stitches or renders the document below the fold into one image, including sections you would otherwise reach only by scrolling. It is useful for archiving a layout, reviewing a long landing page, documenting a bug, or sharing a design in a single file.
It is not automatically the best format for reading. A very tall image can be difficult to zoom, print, or make accessible. If selectable text and printed pages matter more than one continuous frame, use the browser’s print or Save to PDF workflow and check the pagination.
Prepare the page before you capture it
- Open the final URL. Wait for redirects, consent dialogs, fonts, and major images to finish.
- Dismiss obstructive overlays. Close newsletter prompts, chat panels, and sign-in dialogs when they obscure content you need.
- Scroll from top to bottom once. Many sites use lazy loading and request images only as they approach the viewport. Pause briefly at each section so those requests complete.
- Stabilize the layout. Stop videos or animations where possible and wait for late network requests. A page that changes during capture can produce mismatched sections.
- Choose the right window size. A desktop-width capture may reflow differently from a phone-width capture. Set the viewport or rotate the device before starting.
After saving, inspect the beginning, middle, and end. Look for blank image boxes, duplicated fixed headers, clipped columns, and missing content inside nested scrolling panels.

Firefox: Save full page
Firefox has a documented desktop workflow that does not require an extension.
- Open the webpage.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot.
- Choose Save full page.
- Save the image when Firefox prompts you. The file normally goes to your selected download location.
If Take Screenshot is not available in the page menu, open Developer Tools, select its settings, and find Available Toolbox Buttons. Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page, then use the camera button. The same Developer Tools feature can capture a single element when a whole document is not what you need.
Firefox also lists Command + S on macOS and Ctrl + S on Windows and Linux for screenshot access in some contexts. Shortcut behavior varies by version and focus, so use the visible Take Screenshot command if the shortcut does not open the capture interface.
Chrome: Capture full size screenshot
Chrome’s built-in route uses DevTools. Labels can move between versions, but the command-menu method is consistent in principle.

- Open the page and let it settle.
- Open DevTools with F12, Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux, or Command+Option+I on macOS.
- Open the DevTools command menu (often Ctrl+Shift+P or Command+Shift+P).
- Type Capture full size screenshot.
- Select that command and wait for Chrome to download the image.
If the command is not listed, search the current DevTools command menu for “full size,” “screenshot,” or “capture.” Browser updates can change wording. Emulated device mode changes the capture width and responsive layout, so verify that the selected device or custom viewport matches your purpose.
Edge: Capture full page with Web Capture
- Open the webpage in Edge and wait for dynamic content to finish.
- Open Web Capture from the browser toolbar or menu.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Review, save, or copy the resulting image using the controls Edge displays.
Edge’s menu names and placement can change. If you see only a visible-area option, open the current Web Capture menu and look for a full-page choice rather than assuming the feature has been removed.
iPhone and Android long screenshots
Long-capture support is device- and app-dependent; there is no single control that appears on every phone or browser.
iPhone
- Take a normal screenshot using your iPhone’s hardware shortcut.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail before it disappears.
- If the app supports it, choose Full Page instead of Screen.
- Save or share the resulting document. Some apps offer the full-page result as a PDF rather than a tall image.
Samsung Android
- Take a normal screenshot.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture (the icon may show downward arrows).
- Continue tapping or holding the control until the required section is included.
- Save the completed image.
Other Android manufacturers and browser apps may use different names or provide no long-capture control. Check the screenshot toolbar immediately after taking the first image; if no scrolling option appears, capture sections separately or use a desktop browser.

When full-page capture goes wrong
Images or sections are missing
Scroll through the entire document before capturing and wait for each image to load. Retry after disabling aggressive content blocking for that page if appropriate. Confirm that the image URL itself is not returning an error.
An inner panel is blank or truncated
A page can contain a separately scrolling element such as a code viewer, table, or chat transcript. The browser’s whole-document command may capture the outer page without expanding that panel. Capture the element separately where the browser supports element capture, or save several section images.
Fixed headers, cookie bars, or chat widgets repeat
Fixed-position elements can appear over multiple stitched sections. Close them before capture. If they cannot be closed, use an element or print workflow, or crop the obstruction afterward while preserving the original file.
The result is blank, duplicated, or cut off
Wait for fonts, scripts, and network requests to settle, then retry in a normal (non-private) window. Disable an extension that modifies page layout. If the document is exceptionally tall, capture meaningful sections or create a PDF instead of forcing one unwieldy bitmap.

The page changes during capture
Animations, rotating carousels, live prices, and delayed advertisements can make different sections represent different moments. Pause animation where possible, wait for stable content, and record the capture time if the image is evidence.
Text is too small to read
Increase the browser zoom or capture a narrower section at a useful width. A full-page image preserves pixels, not readability; splitting a long page into logical sections is often better for documentation.

Practical reliability checklist
- Confirm the intended URL, viewport, and color mode.
- Load and scroll the page once before a manual capture.
- Check lazy images, nested panels, overlays, and fixed elements.
- Inspect the top, middle, and bottom of the saved output.
- Use PDF when text selection or printing is the priority.
- For automation, set an explicit timeout, handle non-success responses, and record verdict and billing headers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a full-page screenshot include content inside a scrollable iframe?
Not reliably. An iframe or independently scrolling panel may need its own element capture or several separate images.
Why does my phone save a long screenshot as a PDF?
Some phone and app combinations implement Full Page as a document export rather than a single bitmap. Use a supported desktop capture or section images when PNG or JPEG is required.
Is a full-page screenshot the same as a PDF?
No. A screenshot is an image of rendered pixels; a PDF is a paginated document whose text, backgrounds, and page breaks can differ from the webpage.
