To capture a full webpage on an iPad, take a normal screenshot, tap its preview, choose Full Page, then save the result as an image in Photos or as a PDF in Files. In Safari, this captures content that extends below the visible screen. The button combination depends on whether your iPad has a Home button.
Quick answer
- Open the webpage or other content you want to capture. Apple documents the full-page workflow using a webpage in Safari.
- Take a screenshot. On an iPad without a Home button, quickly press and release the top button and either volume button together. On an iPad with a Home button, quickly press and release the top button and Home button together.
- Tap the screenshot preview.
- Tap Full Page. The preview on the right shows content beyond the visible screen; drag it to inspect the capture and crop it if needed.
- Choose Save to Photos for an image, or Save PDF to Files and select a folder for a document-style copy.
These steps follow Apple’s current iPad screenshot instructions: Take a screenshot on iPad.
Identify your iPad’s screenshot buttons
iPad without a Home button
Press and release the top button and either volume button at the same time. Do not hold the buttons; a quick press creates the screenshot and displays its preview according to your screen-capture preview setting.
iPad with a Home button
Press and release the top button and the Home button together. This is the only change in the documented workflow; the preview, Full Page control and save choices work the same way.

Step-by-step: capture an entire webpage in Safari
1. Open the page and put it in the state you want to save
Open Safari and load the webpage. Scroll or interact with the page first if you need a particular section expanded, then leave the page ready for capture. Because Apple’s example is a Safari webpage, treat Safari as the reliably documented use case rather than assuming every app exposes Full Page.
2. Take the initial screenshot
Use the button pair for your hardware:
- No Home button: top button plus either volume button.
- Home button: top button plus Home button.
Press and release both buttons quickly. If the screenshot opens as a full-screen preview instead of a small thumbnail, the capture still occurred; the preview setting is described later in this guide.
3. Open the screenshot editor
Tap the screenshot preview. This opens the editing view where you can switch from the visible-screen capture to the longer page capture.
4. Select Full Page
Tap Full Page near the top of the editor. A tall preview appears on the right. Drag that preview to move through the page and confirm that the sections you need are present. Use the crop control if you want to remove material above or below the useful content.

5. Save in the format you need
Use the share or save controls in the editor to choose the destination. Apple documents two output choices:
| Choice | What you get | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Save to Photos | An image of the captured page | Sharing a picture, keeping a visual reference or adding the capture to a photo-based workflow |
| Save PDF to Files | A PDF stored in a folder you select | Archiving a long page, sending a document or retaining selectable page content where supported |
Select the option that matches your destination before leaving the editor. If you save to Files, choose the exact folder in the file picker so you can find the document later.
What Full Page can and cannot be assumed to capture
Apple’s support procedure demonstrates a full webpage in Safari and says the capture can include content beyond the visible screen. Apple does not promise that the Full Page control appears in every iPad app or for every kind of content. If you are capturing a document, message thread or app view, look for the control after taking the normal screenshot; if it is not offered, that app or content type may not expose Apple’s full-page capture interface.
Do not confuse a long screenshot with a normal screenshot. The initial button press always captures the current screen first. The Full Page tab is a second step that lets the editor extend the capture where the app supports it.

Alternative ways to take the initial screenshot
The button combinations are the simplest method and do not require an accessory. Apple also lists these alternatives for starting a screenshot:
- Apple Pencil: on supported iPad models, swipe diagonally upward from either lower corner.
- AssistiveTouch: use the on-screen accessibility control to invoke Screenshot if you have configured it.
- Siri: ask Siri to take a screenshot.
These alternatives only replace the initial screenshot gesture. After the screenshot is created, open its preview and choose Full Page using the same workflow. Apple Pencil support depends on the iPad model; it is optional, not a requirement. See Apple’s instructions at Take a screenshot on iPad.
If you cannot find the screenshot preview
Recent iPadOS versions can show screenshots in a full-screen preview instead of the familiar temporary thumbnail. Apple’s screen-capture settings guide explains that you can change this behavior at Settings > General > Screen Capture. Turn off Full-Screen Previews to return to a temporary lower-left thumbnail, or leave it enabled and work from the full-screen editor when the screenshot appears. The setting changes how the preview is presented, not the button combination used to create the capture. Apple documents the setting at Change the screen capture settings on iPad.
Troubleshooting
Full Page is missing
Confirm that you opened the screenshot preview rather than dismissing it. Then check whether the content is a Safari webpage or another view that exposes Apple’s full-page control. Apple’s guide uses Safari as its example and does not state that every app supports the option, so a missing control can be an app-compatibility limitation rather than a button error.

The screenshot did not happen
Use a quick, simultaneous press and release. On models without a Home button, use the top button and a volume button. On models with a Home button, use the top button and Home. Pressing the wrong pair, holding the buttons too long or pressing them sequentially can produce a different action or no screenshot.
You see only the visible screen
Tap the preview and look for Full Page; the first screenshot is intentionally a normal viewport capture. If Full Page is available, select it and inspect the tall preview on the right. Drag through the preview to verify that the lower sections were included.
The result contains unwanted areas
Use the crop control in the Full Page editor before saving. This lets you remove extra space or page sections without taking another screenshot.
You cannot locate the saved file
An image saved to Photos appears in the Photos app. A PDF saved with Save PDF to Files is placed in the folder you select in the Files picker. If you need to send the capture as a document, use the PDF option and note the destination shown before tapping Save.

The preview looks different from instructions
Check Settings > General > Screen Capture. With Full-Screen Previews enabled, the editor can occupy the screen immediately; with it disabled, you see a lower-left thumbnail first. Either presentation can lead to the Full Page editor.

Use an image when the recipient needs a quick visual or when you are adding the capture to a design, bug report or photo library. Use PDF when the page is long, must be filed with other documents or needs a stable document container. In both cases, inspect the Full Page preview before saving; the preview is where you confirm the page extent and apply a crop.
Or skip the browser setup
If you are a developer who needs repeatable webpage captures rather than a one-off iPad image, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. Before capture, it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and each response identifies the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
See the complete parameter list and authentication details in the ScreenshotNeo documentation. This one-call cURL example saves a WebP file:

The same request in Python is:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
And in Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo also supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets and custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper size and margins, custom CSS or JavaScript, click-before-capture actions, selector hiding, waits for a selector, delay or network idle, request and resource blocking, custom headers, cookies, user agents and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, configurable-TTL caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs are accepted to ease migration. Every feature is available on every plan.
The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; yearly billing provides two months free. An MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf to Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients, so an AI agent can request captures directly.
