To capture an entire webpage—not just the part currently visible—use your browser’s built-in full-page screenshot command. In Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S and choose Capture full page. In Firefox, choose Save full page from its screenshot tool. In Chrome, open DevTools Device Mode and select Capture a full size screenshot from the device toolbar’s More options menu.
The exact labels can change with browser version, device, market and operating system. If a menu looks different, use the current screenshot or Developer Tools option rather than an old shortcut.
What a full-page screenshot captures
A normal screenshot records only the visible browser viewport. A full-page screenshot stitches or renders the page from the top through content below the fold, producing one image you can save or copy. It is useful for design reviews, bug reports, documentation and archiving a visual state of a page.
Full-page capture is not the same as printing. A screenshot is an image of the rendered page; a print or PDF workflow creates a document. Choose the image route when you need a visual record, and use print/PDF when you specifically need a document.

Capture a full page in Microsoft Edge
Fast route with the keyboard
- Open the webpage and wait for the initial content to finish loading.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open the page’s right-click menu or Edge’s Settings menu and choose Screenshot.
- Select Capture full page.
- Review the resulting overlay. Choose the copy control to place the image on the clipboard, or save it to a file.
Edge’s feature page describes this as capturing everything at once, including content beyond the screen. If the shortcut does nothing, open the Screenshot command from the current Edge menu; shortcuts and menu placement can vary by release.
When Edge does not include everything
- Scroll through the page once so images or cards that load on demand have a chance to appear, then capture again.
- Expand accordions, tabs or “show more” controls whose content must be visible in the image.
- For a page with a separately scrolling article pane, place the pointer over that pane and capture it with an element-specific tool or use another documented route.
Capture a full page in Firefox
Using the page screenshot command
- Open the page you want to save.
- Open Firefox’s screenshot tool from the page actions menu. Depending on your system and Firefox release, this may be available from the right-click menu or the page actions controls.
- Choose Save full page.
- Save the downloaded image. Firefox’s user guide describes the result as a full-page capture rather than only the visible area. Mozilla’s screenshot guide shows the page-action flow.
Using Developer Tools when the button is missing
- Open Developer Tools (for example, press F12 or use the Web Developer menu).
- Open Developer Tools settings and find Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Click the newly available screenshot icon in the toolbox.
- Firefox saves the full-page image to your Downloads folder, according to the current Developer Tools documentation.
If your Firefox build uses different wording, search the toolbox settings for “screenshot.” The current Developer Tools instructions are more reliable than older screenshots of the interface.
Capture a full page in Google Chrome
- Open the target webpage.
- Open Chrome DevTools by pressing F12, Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux, or Command+Option+I on macOS.
- Turn on the device toolbar by clicking the phone-and-tablet icon, or press Ctrl+Shift+M (Windows/Linux) or Command+Shift+M (macOS).
- In the device toolbar, open the More options menu (the three-dot button).
- Select Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome captures the emulated page from the top through the content outside the viewport, as documented in Chrome’s Device Mode guide.
- Find the resulting image in your browser’s normal download location and rename or move it as needed.
Chrome’s DevTools interface may dock on the side, bottom or in a separate window; the menu remains part of the device toolbar. The Chrome 59 release note records when full-page capture was introduced, but it is historical context rather than a current walkthrough. Chrome 59 release note

Prepare a page before capturing
A full-page command can only capture content the browser has rendered. Do these checks when the first result is incomplete:
- Wait for asynchronous content. Allow charts, comments, ads or product grids to finish loading. A visible spinner is a sign to wait.
- Trigger lazy loading. Scroll through the page once, or use the site’s “load more” control, before returning to the top and capturing.
- Close obstructive UI. Dismiss cookie banners, newsletter dialogs, chat windows and sign-in prompts if they cover the content you need.
- Set the intended state. Choose the correct language, account, theme, viewport width and zoom before starting. The capture records that rendered state.
- Check fixed elements. Sticky headers and floating buttons can appear repeatedly or cover text as the browser renders the long page. Hide them through the site’s controls when possible.
- Consider privacy. A full image may include names, email addresses, order details or tokens that are below the fold. Inspect the image before sharing it.
Troubleshooting full-page screenshots
The screenshot stops at the visible area
You probably used a viewport-only command. In Edge, select Capture full page; in Firefox, select Save full page; in Chrome, use Device Mode’s Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome’s ordinary camera or operating-system screenshot captures do not automatically include the rest of the document.
Images or cards are blank below the fold
Many sites defer loading until an element approaches the viewport. Scroll through the page, wait for placeholders to resolve, then repeat the capture. If the site requires a click, filter, expansion or login to reveal content, perform that action first. Browser documentation does not guarantee complete rendering for every lazy-loaded or script-heavy page.
Firefox has no full-page button
Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Developer Tools’ Available Toolbox Buttons, then use the screenshot icon. If your release has the page-action screenshot tool, its Save full page choice is the simpler route.

Chrome’s menu is hard to find
Make sure the device toolbar is enabled inside DevTools. The More options menu belongs to that toolbar, not the browser’s main three-dot menu. Select Capture a full size screenshot from there.
A nested panel or embedded document is missing
A page can contain an iframe or a div with its own scrollbar. The browser may capture the outer document while leaving the independently scrolling region at its current position. Scroll that panel and capture it separately, use a page-specific export if the site provides one, or capture the embedded document in its own tab when permitted.
The file is enormous or the browser becomes unresponsive
Very long pages at high device scale can produce large images. Close unused tabs, reduce browser zoom or device scale, and capture sections when one image is not required. Splitting a long report into logical sections is safer than repeatedly retrying a tab that is running out of memory.
The page is blank, blocked or asks for a bot check
Resolve the sign-in, network, certificate or bot-check problem in the browser first. A screenshot tool cannot render content the page itself did not deliver. For sensitive sites, follow the owner’s access rules and do not attempt to bypass a challenge.

When to use an automated screenshot service
Browser tools are ideal for an occasional manual capture. Automation is more practical when you need the same result for many URLs, a repeatable viewport, scheduled jobs, or a server-side workflow that should not depend on a person’s browser session.
Or skip the browser setup:
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It is the recommended automated option here because it removes common page clutter before capture, bills only clean successful shots, and has a $5 paid plan for 3,000 shots.
One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. The API accepts full-page capture (including lazy images), CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or a custom viewport, retina scale, PDF paper and margin settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks before capture, hidden selectors, waits for a selector, delay or network idle, ad/tracker/request blocking, custom headers, cookies, user agents and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, configurable-TTL caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work to ease migration.
Before the capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners as a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed. Every response reports the result through X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.
See the complete parameter reference in the ScreenshotNeo documentation. This cURL request captures a full page:

Practical reliability and cost considerations
- Manual capture: no service account or per-shot charge, but a person must open the page, establish the correct state and inspect the result.
- Automated capture: repeatable settings, bulk requests, caching and asynchronous jobs reduce browser setup in pipelines. Check
X-Page-VerdictandX-Billedrather than assuming every response represents a billable clean image. - Dynamic sites: whichever method you use, content behind login, bot checks, delayed JavaScript or independent scroll areas may require explicit waits, cookies, headers or a separate capture strategy.
- Reproducibility: record the URL, viewport, theme, login state, capture date and any custom CSS or JavaScript so another person can understand what the image represents.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a full-page screenshot preserve clickable links?
No. The output is a raster image, so links, forms and buttons are no longer interactive. Keep the original URL alongside the file when the destination matters.
Can I capture a page that requires a login?
A browser can capture it after you sign in and have permission. An automated request needs an authorized session, such as supplied cookies or headers; never share credentials or bypass access controls.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Why does a sticky header appear more than once?
Full-page rendering may include a fixed element each time the page is composited. Hide or collapse the header with the site’s controls, or use custom CSS in an automation workflow when you control that workflow.
What image format should I choose?
PNG is suited to text and sharp interface edges, JPEG creates smaller photographic files, and WebP often balances size and quality. Choose based on how the image will be edited, uploaded or archived.
Is a browser screenshot suitable as an accessibility record?
It is a visual record, not a substitute for accessible HTML, text extraction or a semantic document. Provide the page URL or an accessible export when readers need selectable content or assistive-technology support.
