For a normal webpage in Windows, Microsoft Edge is the quickest option: open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, then save or copy the resulting long image. Edge captures content below the fold without requiring you to scroll manually.
If you are not using Edge, ShareX and PicPick can scroll and stitch longer pages or other scrollable windows. Windows 11’s Snipping Tool is useful for visible areas, but its documented modes do not provide automatic full-page webpage capture.

Use Edge for a one-off webpage capture with no extra setup. Use ShareX or PicPick when you need broader window support, repeatable workflows or editing controls. Use Snipping Tool when the required content is already visible.
Capture a full webpage with Microsoft Edge
Step-by-step
- Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge and wait for the page to finish loading.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open Edge’s browser menu and select Screenshot (the label may appear as Web capture in some versions).
- In the capture bar, select Capture full page.
- Review the generated long image. Use the available copy or save controls to place it on the clipboard or save it as an image file.
Edge’s Screenshot tool is intended to grab a full webpage, including portions that would normally require scrolling. Feature names and keyboard shortcuts can change as Edge updates; if Ctrl+Shift+S does nothing, open the browser menu and look for Screenshot or Web capture.

Get a cleaner result before capturing
- Wait for images, charts and embedded content to finish loading.
- Close cookie notices, newsletter prompts and chat panels that cover the page.
- Set the browser zoom to a level that keeps text readable without making the output unnecessarily wide.
- For pages that load more content as you scroll, scroll through the page once first, then run Capture full page again.
When Edge capture is not a good fit
Edge is optimized for a webpage document. It may be unsuitable for a desktop application, a PDF viewer with its own internal scroll area, or a page whose content is inside a nested scrolling panel. Sticky headers, animated elements and lazy-loaded images can also produce duplicated, missing or shifted content. In those cases, try the alternative workflows below.
What Windows Snipping Tool can and cannot do
Windows Snipping Tool documents four capture modes: rectangular snip, free-form snip, window snip and full-screen snip. These modes capture what is currently visible in a selected region, window or display.
Use it for a visible section
- Open Snipping Tool from the Start menu, or press Windows+Shift+S to open the snipping overlay.
- Choose rectangular, free-form, window or full-screen mode.
- Select the area or window you need.
- Open the resulting preview to annotate, copy or save it.
The documented Snipping Tool modes do not provide automatic scrolling capture for an entire webpage. If the page extends below the screen, use Edge, ShareX or PicPick instead rather than trying to stitch screenshots manually.
Capture a scrolling page with ShareX
ShareX defines a scrolling screenshot as a capture of an entire webpage or document that extends beyond the visible screen. It scrolls the target and stitches the frames until it reaches the end.

- Install ShareX from its official distribution.
- Open the webpage or document you want to capture.
- Start ShareX’s scrolling-capture function and select the target window or scrolling region.
- Let ShareX scroll and assemble the result, then inspect the final image before saving.
Fix common ShareX capture problems
- Sticky header appears repeatedly: adjust the capture region or use a page mode that hides the fixed element.
- Images are missing: wait for lazy-loaded content to appear before starting, or capture after manually scrolling through the page.
- Capture stops early: verify that ShareX is scrolling the page itself, not a nested panel, and check whether the page has an end-of-content marker.
- Animated or highly dynamic content is misaligned: pause the animation where possible and retry with a stable viewport.
Capture a scrolling window with PicPick
PicPick’s capture tools include Scrolling Window, alongside full-screen, window, region and fixed-size modes. Scrolling Window is intended for content that extends beyond the visible area, including many browser pages and application windows.

Typical workflow
- Open the page or application window.
- Launch PicPick and choose Scrolling Window.
- Select the scrollable window or region when prompted.
- Allow the capture to run, then use PicPick’s editor to crop, annotate or export the long image.
PicPick can be practical when capture and editing need to happen in one application. As with any scrolling utility, nested scroll containers, lazy loading and fixed-position controls can require a narrower selection or a second attempt.
Handle pages that load content while you scroll
Lazy-loaded images
Many sites request images only when they approach the viewport. A full-page tool may therefore capture placeholders if it starts immediately. Scroll from top to bottom once, wait for images to render, return to the top and capture again.
Infinite-scroll feeds
An infinite-scroll page has no stable endpoint. Decide where the capture should stop, let the desired posts load, and use a region-based or scrolling tool that allows you to stop at that point. A full-page command cannot produce a meaningful “entire page” when the page keeps adding content.
Nested scrolling areas
Some pages keep the main document fixed while a panel, table or chat transcript scrolls internally. Select that panel explicitly in ShareX or PicPick, or use the panel’s own export function if available. Edge’s full-page capture generally targets the webpage document, not every independently scrolling child.

Sticky navigation and overlays
Fixed headers, consent dialogs, chat bubbles and floating buttons can be repeated on every stitched frame or obscure text. Dismiss overlays first. If an element cannot be dismissed, choose a capture region that excludes it or use a tool with hide or crop controls.
Output, readability and sharing
Long image versus multiple images
A single tall PNG is convenient for archiving and visual comparison, but very long files can be awkward to view and share. If the result is too large, crop it into logical sections or export a PDF when your workflow needs pagination. Keep the original capture before editing so you can reproduce crops later.
Check the capture before relying on it
- Confirm the page starts at the intended top position.
- Check the bottom for clipped content or an early stop.
- Look for duplicated seams where the tool stitched frames.
- Verify that text, images and tables are legible at the intended viewing size.
- Remove private information before sharing the file.

The shortcut does not work
In Edge, open the browser menu and locate Screenshot or Web capture. Another application may have claimed the shortcut, or your Edge version may use a different label.
The capture is blank
Reload the page, wait for it to finish, disable an obstructive extension temporarily and retry. For a third-party tool, make sure you selected the actual scrollable window rather than a static frame.

The bottom of the page is missing
Check for infinite scrolling, a nested panel or content that appears only after interaction. Load the desired content manually, then recapture with the correct region selected.
The result contains repeated sections
Sticky headers and animated layouts can confuse stitching. Hide or dismiss the fixed element, pause animation, reduce page movement and run the capture again.
The output is unreadably wide or tall
Reduce browser zoom or choose a narrower region before capture. For documentation or print workflows, use a PDF-oriented output and set paper size, margins, orientation and page ranges rather than forcing everything into one image.
