To save one long web page, open it in your browser, choose Print, select Save as PDF, adjust the page settings, and save. To capture a site made of linked pages, use Adobe Acrobat desktop’s Create > Web page tool, enable Capture multiple levels, then choose a crawl depth or Get entire site. Define a boundary with Stay on same path or Stay on same server; otherwise a site can expand into external domains, generated URLs, or effectively unlimited links.
Decide what “entire website” means
A PDF capture always starts from one URL and follows links that the capture tool can reach. Decide whether you need one rendered page, a section of a site, or every reachable page on the same server. Login-only pages, interactive states, script-generated content, infinite calendars, and external domains may not be included. A bounded capture is usually more useful than an uncontrolled crawl.
- Single page: one article, receipt, landing page, or documentation page.
- Site section: a starting path such as
/docs/and links below it. - Whole site: all levels Acrobat can discover under your selected path or server rules.
Option 1: Save the current page with Print to PDF
Browser printing is the fastest method when the deliverable is one page as it currently appears.
- Open the exact URL in Chrome, Firefox, or another modern browser.
- Wait for visible text, images, charts, and embedded content to finish loading. Scroll through the page if images load lazily.
- Open the browser menu and choose Print (or press
Ctrl+Pon Windows/Linux orCommand+Pon macOS). - Set the destination to Save as PDF or the equivalent PDF destination.
- Choose paper size, portrait or landscape orientation, margins, scale, background graphics, and headers or footers where offered.
- Save with a descriptive filename, then reopen the PDF and inspect every page.
Settings that affect the result
- Background graphics: enable this when colored panels, diagrams, or branded backgrounds are part of the information.
- Headers and footers: disable them when browser-added URLs, dates, or page numbers obscure the design.
- Margins and scale: reduce scale only enough to prevent clipped columns; very small text is difficult to read.
- Orientation: landscape is often better for wide tables, while portrait suits articles.
Printing captures the rendered state of the page, not every page linked from it. A navigation menu, sitemap, or “next” link does not turn this workflow into a site crawl.

Option 2: Capture linked pages with Adobe Acrobat desktop
Acrobat’s web-page conversion tool is the direct desktop workflow for assembling linked pages into one PDF.
- Open Acrobat and select Create.
- Choose Web page and enter the starting URL.
- Enable Capture multiple levels.
- Select Get level(s) and specify a depth, or select Get entire site to include all levels Acrobat can discover.
- Choose Stay on same path when the capture should remain below the starting URL path, such as
example.com/docs/. - Choose Stay on same server when links to other domains must be excluded.
- Review advanced conversion settings for layout, links, and page handling.
- Start the conversion and monitor the download queue or status area.
Choosing a crawl boundary

Why depth matters
At level one, Acrobat generally captures pages directly linked from the starting page. Additional levels follow links found on those pages. A high depth can create a very large PDF and may include archives, tag pages, duplicate navigation routes, or generated query URLs. Start with a small level, inspect the result, and expand only when the site structure requires it.
Option 3: Save a complete HTML page instead of a PDF
If the requirement is an offline copy of the page’s original structure rather than a single printable document, Firefox’s complete-page save is a better fit. Choose the browser’s save-page command and select the complete-page option. Firefox creates an HTML file plus a directory containing images and other resources needed to display it offline.
This produces a browsable resource bundle, not a PDF. It is useful for inspecting markup, preserving page assets, or reopening a page without a network connection. It does not assemble linked pages into one document.

Prepare pages for a more complete capture
- Expand accordions, tabs, and disclosure controls that must appear.
- Scroll through long pages so lazy-loaded images and embeds have a chance to load.
- Navigate to the exact language, filter, or view you need before printing.
- Sign in only when you are authorized and understand that private pages may not be reachable by a separate capture process.
- Remove transient overlays where the browser or capture tool permits it; cookie banners, chat panels, and newsletter prompts can cover content.
These steps improve the rendered input, but no method can guarantee content that requires a click sequence, an API call after capture, or credentials unavailable to the converter.
Verify the PDF after it is created
Do not treat a successful download as proof of a complete capture. Reopen the file and check:
- Page count and the expected first and last sections.
- Images, diagrams, fonts, and backgrounds.
- Links and table-of-contents entries.
- Page breaks in tables, code blocks, and multi-column layouts.
- Text selection and search, especially when accessibility or archival use matters.
- Repeated pages caused by navigation, tags, calendars, or query parameters.
If content is missing, return to the source page, load the missing state, narrow the crawl boundary, or capture the affected page separately and merge it using your PDF editor.
Common problems and fixes
The PDF contains only the page I opened
That is expected from browser printing. Use Acrobat’s Capture multiple levels workflow for linked pages.

Only part of the site was captured
Check the selected depth, starting URL, and same-path restriction. Links outside that path are intentionally excluded when the restriction is enabled.
The capture follows unrelated domains
Enable Stay on same server, and use a narrower starting path or explicit level count.
Images or charts are blank
Wait for the page to finish loading, scroll to trigger lazy loading, and capture again. Script-dependent or blocked resources may still fail.
Text is clipped or page breaks look wrong
Change orientation, margins, scale, or paper size. Wide tables commonly require landscape orientation; long code lines may need a smaller scale or a separate capture.

The PDF is enormous
Reduce crawl depth, exclude unrelated paths, and avoid capturing generated archive pages. For a single page, lower image-heavy print settings where available and capture only the needed section.
Private or interactive pages are missing
Capture the page while authenticated if your tool supports that workflow, or export the content from the application itself. A crawler cannot infer a login session or reproduce every interaction automatically.

Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
Site-wide PDF creation scales with page count, asset size, JavaScript execution, and crawl depth. A bounded path and explicit level count make runtime and output size easier to predict. For repeat jobs, use caching where appropriate, capture asynchronously, and monitor status rather than holding a browser window open. Keep the original URL list or crawl rules with the PDF so another reader can understand what “entire site” covered.
Browser printing has no separate capture service charge but requires manual work for each page. Acrobat’s whole-site workflow is convenient for a one-off desktop capture, while an API is easier to automate, schedule, or run in bulk. Whichever method you choose, inspect the finished document because failures can produce a valid-looking PDF with missing content.

Can I capture pages behind a login?
Only if the capture workflow has an authorized authenticated session and the page can render in that session. Otherwise export the content from the application or capture it manually.
Will a whole-site PDF preserve website navigation?
It may preserve links that the converter detects, but navigation behavior, scripts, and interactive states are not guaranteed to work offline.
What should I do when a site has thousands of pages?
Use a defined path and level count, capture in smaller sections, and combine the resulting PDFs if necessary. This avoids uncontrolled archives and makes missing pages easier to identify.
