To capture a whole webpage in Chrome on a Mac, including the part below the visible browser window, use Chrome DevTools: open the page, open DevTools, press Command+Shift+P, search for screenshot, then choose Capture full size screenshot. A regular Mac screenshot captures what is on screen; DevTools’ full-size command is the built-in option intended to include content outside the current viewport.
Use Chrome DevTools to capture the whole page
The full-size screenshot command is the most direct built-in method for a webpage that extends below the visible browser area. Chrome’s DevTools documentation describes it as capturing the whole page, including content that is not currently visible in the viewport. You do not need to install an extension for this workflow.
Step-by-step instructions
- Open the webpage in Chrome. Navigate to the page you want to capture. If it is important that the screenshot show a particular state—such as a signed-in page or a completed form—prepare that state before opening the command menu.
- Open DevTools. Right-click the page and choose Inspect. DevTools opens alongside the webpage. If the context menu differs because you clicked an image, link, or other element, right-click an ordinary part of the page or use Chrome’s DevTools keyboard shortcut.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu. Press Command+Shift+P on the Mac keyboard. This is the Mac shortcut for the DevTools Command Menu; it is separate from macOS’s screen-capture controls.
- Find the full-page command. Type screenshot in the Command Menu. Choose Capture full size screenshot, not a command that captures only the visible area.
- Check the result. Chrome captures the page beyond the viewport. Open the resulting image and inspect the top, bottom, and any important content between them before sharing or relying on it.
The command can be difficult to spot among DevTools menus; searching for “screenshot” in the Command Menu is the discovery path documented for Mac. If you do not see the full-size option, see the troubleshooting section below rather than assuming the page itself is the cause.
Where does the screenshot go?
Chrome produces a screenshot image, but the reviewed Chrome documentation does not specify the exact save prompt or destination behavior. Check Chrome’s download UI and the Mac’s configured download location rather than relying on a particular folder or filename. If no obvious file appears, review Chrome’s recent downloads and repeat the capture after confirming the command ran.

What “full-page” means—and what it does not guarantee
A full-size capture is meant to include webpage content outside the browser’s visible viewport. That makes it different from an ordinary screen grab of the current display. It does not establish that every kind of modern page will render every off-screen element exactly as it would after a person scrolls through it.
Pages with lazy-loaded images or content
Some pages load images or other material only as a visitor scrolls. The available Chrome documentation establishes the command’s full-page coverage, but not how every site’s lazy-loading code behaves during capture. If the saved image has blank image areas, missing cards, or placeholders where content should be, the screenshot may not represent the fully loaded page. Let visible content finish loading, scroll through the page if appropriate to prompt the site to load deferred material, then capture again and inspect the output.

Infinite scroll and very long pages
On an infinite-scroll page, more content may appear only after a person reaches the bottom. A full-size screenshot command should not be treated as proof that it has discovered every item the site could load. Decide what extent you actually need to document, load that content by scrolling if the site requires it, and verify where the captured image ends. The sources do not establish a maximum page length or guarantee for an unusually tall document.
Frames, sign-in walls, and changing page state
Content embedded in frames, pages behind authentication, and interfaces that update while rendering can have site-specific behavior. The command’s documented purpose is whole-page capture, but the available documentation does not promise identical treatment for every frame, access gate, or dynamic interface. Make sure the intended page state is visible before capture and inspect the saved image for missing or stale sections. For evidence that must be reproducible, note the page state and time of capture.

Why a normal Mac screenshot is not the same thing
macOS’s built-in screenshot controls can capture the entire display, a window, or a selected portion. Those are useful for recording what is currently visible on the screen, including browser chrome or other apps, but Apple’s guidance does not describe them as a scrolling webpage capture. If the goal is an image of the whole document rather than the visible browser area, use Chrome DevTools’ full-size command.
This distinction also helps choose the right method: use a Mac screen grab when the visible desktop or a particular window is the subject; use the DevTools command when the webpage’s below-the-fold content matters.

Troubleshooting when the capture is missing or incomplete
“Capture full size screenshot” is not listed
- Confirm DevTools is open and that you pressed Command+Shift+P while DevTools has focus. Typing “screenshot” into the page itself will not search DevTools commands.
- Search the Command Menu for screenshot and look for the exact full-size command. The wording matters: a regular screenshot command may capture only the visible viewport.
- Close and reopen DevTools, then open the Command Menu again. A Chromium issue report documents the option missing in one reported macOS Chrome build, version 151.0.7922.71. That individual report does not establish how common the issue is or that the command is currently unavailable generally.
- If the command remains unavailable in your Chrome build, use a dedicated capture extension as an alternative, or capture through a screenshot service. The extension alternative is discussed below.
The screenshot has blank areas or missing images
- Wait for the page to finish its initial load before invoking the command.
- For content that loads on scroll, scroll through the relevant portion first, then capture again. This is a practical check, not a guarantee that every site’s lazy-loading behavior will be handled.
- Open the captured image and compare its sections with the live page. Do not assume that a file was complete just because the capture command completed.
The page looks rearranged
The Chromium issue report also notes that DevTools may resize the viewport while laying out a full-page screenshot. Since responsive sites can change their layout at different viewport widths, compare the image with the page and check whether columns or navigation have shifted. The report is tied to an individual issue and does not show that every capture will resize or rearrange a page.
The file is hard to find
Check Chrome’s recent downloads and the download location configured in Chrome. The official passage reviewed here does not spell out a universal filename or save location, so do not rely on a fixed path. If necessary, run the capture once more and watch for Chrome’s download indication.

Optional alternative: a full-page capture extension
The Chrome Web Store lists GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture as an extension alternative. Its listing includes changelog entries through September 24, 2026. That listing establishes that the extension is available in the store; it does not establish that it is safer, more reliable, faster, endorsed by Chrome, or affiliated with this site. No comparative assessment of its privacy, permissions, or performance is established here.
For a one-off capture, starting with Chrome’s built-in DevTools command avoids installing another extension. An extension may suit someone who prefers a dedicated browser workflow, but review the current store listing and its permissions yourself before installing it. Neither the listing nor its changelog should be taken as a guarantee that it will capture every dynamic page correctly.
