The exact destination label varies by operating system and the printers or PDF handlers installed.
This guide covers the normal Edge workflow, cleaner pages with Immersive Reader, settings that affect fidelity, and fixes for print-preview failures. If you need automated captures instead of an interactive browser, the final section shows a ScreenshotNeo option.
Download a web page as a PDF in Edge
- Open the page. Navigate to the URL you want to archive. Wait for the content you need to finish loading, including any images or expandable sections.
- Open Edge’s print interface. Select Settings and more (the three-dot button) and then Print. You can also press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac. Microsoft also documents a third route: right-click a blank area of the page and choose Print. See Microsoft’s Print in Microsoft Edge instructions for the current interface.
- Choose a PDF destination. In the print dialog, select the save-to-PDF or PDF destination available on your system. Windows commonly exposes a PDF printer or a save-as-PDF destination; macOS presents PDF actions in its system print dialog. The wording and available destinations are controlled by the operating system, so do not assume that every Edge installation uses the same label.
- Review the preview. Scroll through every page. Confirm that the article starts and ends where you expect, tables are not clipped, and images appear. A preview that is wrong is a warning to fix settings before saving.
- Adjust the output. Set paper size, orientation, margins, scale, and page range as needed. Edge’s print controls also expose headers and footers and an option for background graphics. Microsoft notes that you can include background graphics when printing a web page; turn this on when colors, cards, shaded sections, or diagrams are part of the information you need.
- Save the file. Activate the dialog’s save or print button, choose a folder and filename, and confirm. Open the resulting PDF once to verify that it is readable and complete.
Use Ctrl+S on Windows or Command+S on Mac only when you want to save the current web page in Edge’s normal save workflow. Microsoft’s shortcut list distinguishes those commands from Ctrl+P/Command+P, which open printing. The ordinary Save command does not, by itself, guarantee a PDF.

Make the PDF match the web page
Choose a page range deliberately
For a complete article, leave the range set to all pages. For a receipt, documentation section, or long report, enter only the pages shown in the preview. Page numbers can change after you alter margins, scale, or paper size, so set those options before finalizing a range.
Set paper size, orientation, and margins
Use the paper size that matches the document’s intended use. Portrait is usually best for text-heavy pages; landscape can prevent wide tables from being cut off. Narrower margins create more usable space but may make the result harder to print on physical paper. Watch the preview after each change rather than relying on the setting name alone.
Control scale
Scaling changes how much content fits on each sheet. If a right-hand column disappears, reduce the scale or switch to landscape. If text becomes uncomfortably small, increase the scale and accept additional pages. The preview is the authoritative check because responsive sites can reflow at different widths.
Headers and footers
Headers and footers can add the page title, URL, date, or page numbers, but they also consume space. Turn them off for a clean archival copy; leave them on when the source URL and capture date are useful for later verification.
Background graphics
Some sites use background colors or images to distinguish warnings, code blocks, and panels. If those elements vanish in the preview, enable Background graphics. Microsoft explicitly documents this option in its Edge print guidance: You can include background graphics when you print a web page.
Backgrounds can increase ink use if you later print the PDF, so disable them when color is decorative rather than meaningful.
Remove ads and navigation before printing
When a site supports it, Edge’s Immersive Reader can present the main text without surrounding navigation, advertisements, or other page furniture. Microsoft describes Immersive Reader as a workaround for removing surrounding material before printing and cautions that it may not be available for every website.

- Open the page in Edge and invoke Immersive Reader using the page’s available Immersive Reader control. On Windows, Microsoft documents F9 as a shortcut where the feature is supported.
- Check that the reader view contains all of the text, headings, images, and lists you need.
- Open Settings and more > Print from that view and complete the normal PDF steps.
If the page has interactive charts, embedded applications, comments, or content that appears only after a click, compare the reader view with the original before printing. Immersive Reader is a cleaner-layout option, not a guarantee that every script-driven element will transfer.
When the PDF destination is missing
Windows
Inspect the destination list in the print dialog for a PDF printer or save-to-file option supplied by Windows or another installed handler. If no PDF-capable destination appears, cancel the dialog and check whether the system’s print-to-PDF component is available. You can still retry the Edge print command after the destination is restored.

Open the macOS print dialog from Edge and look for its PDF actions, such as saving the job as a PDF. The exact controls depend on the macOS version and installed printers. If the system dialog is hidden behind Edge’s preview, complete the handoff to the system dialog before looking for PDF actions.
Managed or restricted computers
Work or school policies can hide destinations, disable printing, or block downloads. In that case, Edge may open correctly but offer no usable PDF target. Contact the administrator rather than installing an unapproved print component.
Troubleshoot blank previews, missing content, and failed saves
Print preview does not load
- Close the print dialog, wait a moment for the page to finish loading, and try Settings and more > Print again.
- Restart Edge and retry the same page.
- Test another website or an online document. Microsoft’s print troubleshooting guidance recommends this comparison to separate an Edge-wide problem from a page-specific one.
If other sites work but one page consistently fails, its styling or scripts may be incompatible with printing. Try Immersive Reader when available, or ask the site owner for a downloadable document.
Parts of the page are missing
- Images are absent: wait for lazy-loaded images to appear before opening Print, then check the preview again.
- Colors or panels disappear: enable Background graphics.
- A table is cut off: reduce scale, choose landscape, or adjust margins.
- Only the visible portion appears: confirm that the page-range control is set to all required pages and that the site has finished rendering.
- Pop-ups or cookie notices cover the text: dismiss them before printing, or use Immersive Reader if the site supports it.
The output is a blank page or an error
Retry after restarting Edge and test a different page. A blank result limited to one site points to that page’s print CSS or scripts rather than the PDF destination. If the site requires a login, confirm that the session is still active and that the content is visible in the tab before printing.

The file saves but will not open
Save again with a simple filename and a local folder, then open the new file. If repeated saves are corrupt while other sites produce valid PDFs, test a different PDF destination or use the system print dialog rather than an Edge preview that is failing.

Use Edge’s built-in print workflow when you need a one-off PDF and want to inspect the result visually. Use Immersive Reader when the site supports it and surrounding material is the main problem.
