On a Mac, export from Preview; on Windows, choose Microsoft Print to PDF; on iPhone or Android, use an available Share or Print route. If you’re combining several screenshots, check the page order before saving.
Before you convert: one screenshot or several?
For one screenshot, the quickest route is usually the image app’s export or the system print dialog with a PDF destination. A screenshot is already an image; the conversion places it on a PDF page. You do not need a printer.
For several screenshots in one document, use a workflow that lets you select the images, arrange them, and review the page sequence before exporting. A print command that works for one image may not reliably combine a batch or preserve the order you intended.
Convert a screenshot to PDF on iPhone
- Open Photos and select the screenshot.
- Tap Share, then choose Print if that option is available.
- Review the print preview. Use the share controls from the preview to save or share the resulting PDF to Files.
- Choose a folder and filename, then save.
Control names and the exact preview steps can vary by iOS version. Apple’s screenshot guidance covers taking and editing screenshots, including Full Page captures for supported content that extends beyond the screen; it does not document the PDF export route described above. A Full Page webpage capture can be very tall, so inspect the saved PDF at a readable zoom before sending it.

Capture a full webpage when the screen is not enough
When capturing supported content such as a long webpage, take a screenshot and tap its thumbnail to access the available Full Page, crop, and markup controls. This captures more than the currently visible screen; it is different from converting an existing screenshot image. Check the resulting document carefully, since fitting a long capture onto a standard page may make its text difficult to read.
Convert a screenshot to PDF on Windows
- Open the image in an image viewer that offers a Print command.
- Choose Print and select Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer.
- Set the layout and review the preview, including whether the image is cropped or scaled to fit.
- Select Print, choose where to save the PDF, and enter a filename.
Despite its name, Microsoft Print to PDF creates a file rather than sending the image to a physical printer. Microsoft’s Snipping Tool help also describes opening and printing a snip, so the same print-destination approach can be used for a screenshot captured with that tool.
Convert a screenshot to PDF on Mac
Preview provides two direct routes. Apple documents these options and related print controls in its Mac help guide.
Export from Preview
- Open the screenshot in Preview.
- Choose File > Export.
- Choose PDF from the format menu.
- Choose a filename and location, then save.
Save from the print dialog
- In Preview, choose File > Print.
- Review the scale, rotation, orientation, and page layout.
- Open the PDF menu in the print dialog and choose Save as PDF.
- Name the file, choose a location, and save.
Use Export for a straightforward conversion. Use Print when you need to control how the image sits on a page. In either case, check whether the preview includes the whole image: options such as scale-to-fit and fill-page can change the result.
Convert a screenshot to PDF on Android
- Open the screenshot in an app that offers Print. One possible route is to open the image in Chrome or Google Photos, if those apps are available and offer the relevant controls on your device.
- Open the app’s menu or share controls and select Print.
- In the printer list, choose Save as PDF.
- Review paper size and orientation, then use the save control to choose a location on the device.
Android gallery apps, manufacturers, and print services do not all use the same menus. If the steps differ, look for Print in the image app’s menu or share sheet and select Save as PDF in the print destination list when it appears. Google documents printing to PDF in Chrome for images opened there; the exact availability depends on the app and device setup.
Put multiple screenshots into one PDF
When a document contains a sequence of captures, treat page order as a separate step rather than assuming the print dialog will arrange them correctly.
- Select only the screenshots that belong in the document.
- Decide the intended order, such as chronological order or the order of steps in a process. Numeric filenames can help make a sequence easier to manage.
- Open or import the images in a workflow that shows a page list or thumbnails. On Mac, Preview can open multiple files in one window.
- Inspect the thumbnail or page order before exporting. Rearrange pages if needed and remove duplicates.
- Save one PDF, then open it and check each page before sharing.
Do not assume every platform’s batch-print interface will merge several images into one correctly ordered document. If the available interface does not make selection and ordering clear, choose a reputable local PDF or image workflow that displays the pages before export, or a converter whose page order you can review. No particular third-party converter is recommended here.

Make the PDF easy to read and print
- Match orientation to the image. Portrait screenshots generally suit portrait pages; wide screenshots may be easier to read in landscape.
- Keep meaningful edges. Review the preview for cropping. Fit-to-page and fill-page settings can produce different results; avoid stretching the screenshot out of proportion.
- Watch for very tall captures. Shrinking a long phone screenshot onto one standard sheet can make text too small. For digital reading, a long-page PDF may be more usable; for print or a strict page size, split the capture into logical sections before conversion.
- Check every page in a batch. Confirm that the sequence is correct, pages are legible, and duplicates or unrelated images are removed.
These are practical layout checks, not guarantees of how a specific app will paginate an image. Apple’s Preview print controls include scaling, automatic rotation, scale-to-fit, and whole-image versus fill-page choices; inspect the actual output rather than relying on a setting name alone.

Before conversion, inspect the screenshot for unrelated passwords, email addresses, account numbers, recovery codes, private messages, or notification previews. Crop or redact sensitive material in the source image before exporting. An annotation placed over content may be movable or removable in some workflows, so do not rely on a mark-up layer to conceal information unless you have confirmed the saved result no longer exposes it.
If the screenshot is part of a record, keep the original image files as well as the PDF. Original filenames, image dimensions, or capture times may be useful later, and a converted PDF should not be assumed to preserve every detail of the source file.
Built-in export and print routes avoid sending an image to an online converter. If you consider an external service for sensitive screenshots, check that provider’s current handling and retention policy; privacy cannot be assumed from the fact that a site performs conversion.

There is no PDF option in the image app
Use the system print dialog instead. On Windows, choose Microsoft Print to PDF; on Mac, use Preview’s Export or the PDF menu in Print; on a phone, check the available Share or Print controls and select a PDF destination when offered. App names and menu labels vary, especially on Android.
The saved PDF cuts off part of the screenshot
Return to the preview and check the scaling and page layout. Choose a fit or whole-image option rather than a fill-page option if preserving the complete image matters. For wide captures, try landscape orientation.
The image is too small to read
A tall screenshot scaled down to one sheet can become illegible. If the recipient will read it digitally, preserve it as a long page when your workflow supports that. If it must print on standard paper, divide the source into logical sections and review the resulting pages.

Several screenshots became separate files or appear in the wrong order
Batch printing differs among apps and platforms. Use a workflow with a visible page list or thumbnails, arrange the captures before export, and inspect the saved PDF. If the current print interface does not show page order clearly, do not assume its output is correctly combined.
The PDF does not contain selectable or searchable text
A normal image-to-PDF conversion places the screenshot image on a PDF page; it does not guarantee OCR or searchable text. If searchable text is required, use an OCR-capable workflow and verify the text it recognizes before relying on it.

Should I use Microsoft Lens on Android?
Microsoft says Lens retirement began on January 9, 2026, and support ended after February 9, 2026. For this simple conversion, use the device’s available print-to-PDF or export workflow instead of starting with Lens as a new solution.

Does converting a screenshot to PDF make it an editable document?
Usually, the screenshot remains an image on a PDF page, not editable text or webpage elements. A separate OCR or document-editing workflow may recognize some text, but check the result before relying on it.
Does a screenshot PDF prove when or where a webpage appeared?
A PDF of a screenshot shows the captured pixels, but by itself it does not independently verify the webpage’s URL, when it was captured, or whether the page was authentic. Keep relevant originals and contextual records if you need to document those details.
