Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo capture an entire webpage in desktop Chrome, use DevTools: open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+I (Windows/Linux) or Command+Option+I (macOS), press Ctrl+Shift+P or Command+Shift+P, run Capture full size screenshot, and choose where to save the image. Chrome captures content below the visible viewport without requiring you to scroll manually.
Capture a full webpage in Chrome with DevTools
This built-in desktop workflow is free and does not require an extension.
- Open the target page. Wait until the text, images and interactive sections you need are loaded.
- Open DevTools. Press Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows or Linux, or Command+Option+I on macOS. You can also right-click the page and choose Inspect.
- Open the Command Menu. Press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+P on macOS.
- Run the full-page command. Type Capture full size screenshot, then select that command. Chrome saves an image containing the complete page, including content outside the current viewport.
- Check the file. Open the downloaded image and inspect the top, bottom, sticky elements and lazy-loaded sections before sharing it.
Chrome also exposes the command through the DevTools three-dot menu: choose More options, then Capture a full size screenshot. Do not choose the ordinary screenshot command if you need content below the fold; that option captures only the current viewport.
What “full size” captures—and what it does not
A full-size screenshot is a raster snapshot of the page state Chrome has rendered. It includes content below the visible area, but it is not a print layout or an archival copy of every possible state.

Dynamic and lazy-loaded content
Some pages load images, charts or text only after scrolling, waiting, clicking, or meeting a visibility condition. Give the page time to finish loading and, if necessary, scroll through it once before invoking the command. The resulting file reflects the state available when Chrome captures it.
Sticky headers and overlays
Fixed navigation bars, cookie dialogs, newsletter prompts and chat widgets can appear repeatedly or cover content. Close them before capture. If a banner returns after scrolling, the final image may still contain it.
Embedded content
Cross-origin frames, videos and third-party widgets may render differently from the surrounding document or remain blank. A screenshot cannot recover content that the page itself failed to load.
Make the result readable
Choose the right browser state
- Set the page zoom to 100% unless you have a specific reason to enlarge or shrink it.
- Use a stable window size before opening DevTools; responsive breakpoints can change the layout.
- Dismiss consent dialogs and sign-in prompts when you are allowed to do so.
- Wait for fonts and images to finish loading. A partially loaded page produces a partial snapshot.
Review very tall pages
Long pages can create extremely tall image files that are difficult to view or share. If the image is unwieldy, capture logical sections separately or export a PDF from the browser’s print dialog. PDF pagination, margins and selectable text differ from a single raster image, so choose the format based on the recipient’s needs.
Save a full-page screenshot as a PDF
Chrome’s full-size screenshot command creates an image. For a document intended for printing or text search, press Ctrl+P (Windows/Linux) or Command+P (macOS), select Save to PDF, configure paper size, orientation and margins, then save. Print output follows print CSS and page breaks, so it may not match the on-screen layout pixel for pixel.
When the built-in command is unavailable
Chrome on Android or iPhone
Google’s documented full-size DevTools command is a desktop workflow. The official Chrome sources for this method do not document the same command in the Android or iOS Chrome interface. On mobile, use the operating system’s available scrolling-capture feature, Chrome’s print-to-PDF option, or a service that captures a supplied URL.

Enterprise-managed browsers
Company-managed Chrome installations can disable screenshot capture through the DisableScreenshots enterprise policy or data-loss-prevention rules. If the command fails or is missing on a managed device, ask your administrator whether policy permits capture; do not attempt to bypass a security control.
Pages that block or break capture
Bot checks, authentication walls, scripts that continually mutate the DOM, and pages with very large canvases can prevent a useful result. Confirm that you can view the page normally, try a fresh tab, and capture after the page reaches a stable state.

Automate screenshots with Chrome
Chrome DevTools Protocol
For repeatable jobs, the Chrome DevTools Protocol provides the Page.captureScreenshot method. Your automation client connects to a running Chrome instance, selects a page target, and requests the screenshot with the required format and capture settings. Build in explicit waits for navigation, fonts, images and any selector that indicates readiness. Automation should also record the URL, viewport, timestamp and failure reason alongside each file.
Headless Chrome command line
Headless Chrome supports the --screenshot flag and writes screenshot.png to the current working directory. A minimal example is:
chrome --headless --screenshot https://example.com
The exact executable name varies by operating system and installation. Add your environment’s Chrome binary path when the chrome command is not on PATH. Headless capture is useful for scripts and scheduled jobs, but it still captures the page state available to that browser session; it does not automatically solve login, consent, bot-check or lazy-loading problems.

Automation checklist
- Use a deterministic viewport and device scale factor.
- Set a navigation timeout and a separate readiness timeout.
- Wait for a specific selector or network-idle condition rather than an arbitrary short delay when possible.
- Save console errors, HTTP failures and the final URL for troubleshooting.
- Compare representative captures after Chrome upgrades; rendering can change.
Extension alternative for one-click capture
A Chrome Web Store extension such as GoFullPage adds a toolbar workflow and can export PNG or PDF. Its listing also advertises the Alt+Shift+P shortcut. Store ratings, user counts and availability change over time, so verify current permissions and publisher details before installing. Review whether your organization allows extensions and whether the extension handles pages containing confidential data.

Or skip the browser setup: ScreenshotNeo
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Send one GET request with a URL to receive a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF without configuring a local browser.
Using the API requires an access key. The complete parameter reference and response behavior are in the ScreenshotNeo documentation.
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Options for production captures
ScreenshotNeo exposes 63 capture options, including full-page capture with lazy images loaded, a CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets plus custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper size/margins/orientation/page ranges, HTML/CSS rendering, custom JavaScript and CSS, pre-capture clicks, hidden selectors, waits for a selector or network idle, ad/tracker/request/resource blocking, custom headers, cookies, user agents and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, image resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed links for public <img> tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify migration.
Billing and failed-page handling
ScreenshotNeo bills only clean shots. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and each response reports its result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. This makes it easier to distinguish a successful capture from a page that needs remediation.

The command is missing
Confirm that DevTools is open and that you pressed the Command Menu shortcut, not the browser’s address-bar search. Type the command exactly as Capture full size screenshot. On a managed computer, ask whether screenshot policy is disabled.
The image stops before the bottom
Reload the page, wait for network activity to settle, and try again. Scroll through the page once to trigger lazy content. If the document keeps expanding, capture after the layout stabilizes or use an automated selector/readiness wait.
Images or fonts are blank
Check the page normally in the same tab. Network errors, blocked third-party resources, ad blockers and authentication requirements can all affect the rendered state. Disable a conflicting blocker only if permitted, then reload and capture.
The layout is different from what you see
Responsive CSS depends on viewport width, zoom and device scale. Keep those values fixed, close side panels that alter the viewport, and recapture. Headless and headed Chrome can also use different defaults; set them explicitly in automation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Chrome capture the entire page without scrolling?
Yes. DevTools’ Capture full size screenshot command includes content outside the visible viewport; you do not need to scroll manually, although scrolling once can help trigger lazy-loaded content.
Can I capture a full page in Chrome’s mobile app?
The documented command is for desktop DevTools. Chrome’s official documentation used for this workflow does not describe the same command in Android or iOS Chrome.
What file format does DevTools save?
The built-in full-size command saves an image. Use Chrome’s print dialog and Save to PDF when you need a paginated document.
