For a visible part of any webpage, press Windows+Shift+S, choose Rectangular snip or Freeform snip, and drag around the content. The selection opens in Snipping Tool, where you can copy, save, annotate, or share it. This captures the current screen view, not an automatically scrolling page.
If you use Microsoft Edge, right-click the page and select Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S. Edge can capture a selected webpage area or the entire long page, then let you mark it up before copying or saving.
Choose the right Windows method

Snipping Tool works at the Windows screen level, so it is browser-independent. Edge Screenshot is webpage-aware and is the practical choice when the page is long or you need Edge to capture content that requires scrolling.
Capture a visible part with Snipping Tool
- Open the webpage and scroll until the part you need is visible.
- Press Windows+Shift+S. Windows opens the screen-snipping toolbar.
- Choose Rectangular snip for a normal box, or Freeform snip for an irregular outline.
- Drag around the webpage content. Release the pointer to take the snip.
- Select the notification that appears to open the image in Snipping Tool.
- Use the editor to copy, save, annotate, or share the capture.
Rectangular snip
Use this when you want a clean, predictable crop such as a table, paragraph, product card, or error message. Start just outside the first pixel you need and release after the opposite corner is inside the selection.

Freeform snip
Use Freeform when the useful content has an unusual outline or you want to exclude surrounding material. Draw the boundary with the pointer, then release to create the image.
What this shortcut cannot do
A normal screen snip records the current viewport. It does not automatically scroll through a page or stitch several screens into one long image. Scroll to a different section and take another snip if you need multiple visible portions.
Capture part of a page in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page in Microsoft Edge.
- Right-click anywhere on the page and choose Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S. Microsoft’s command list labels this action
web_capture. - Choose the selected-area or capture-area option and drag over the content you want.
- Use Edge’s markup controls if you need to draw or write on the image. Edge documents pen and touch markup.
- Copy the result to the clipboard or save it to a file.
Capture a full scrolling webpage
When the material extends below the visible viewport, choose Edge’s full-page capture instead of dragging a screen rectangle. Edge can include the portions that require scrolling, so a long article, dashboard, or document can be exported as one image. Review the result for dynamic sections or content that changes while the page scrolls.
Selected area versus full page
Selected-area capture is faster when you need one component and keeps unrelated page content out of the file. Full-page capture is better for an entire article or a record of a page, but the resulting image can be very tall. For a single paragraph or card, do not use full-page mode and crop afterward; select the area directly.

Copy, save, and annotate your capture
Copy for immediate use
In the Snipping Tool or Edge result, choose the copy command and paste the image into an email, document, issue tracker, or chat. This avoids creating a file when you only need a one-time paste.
Save a reusable image
Choose save, select a destination, and use a descriptive filename such as checkout-error-2026-09-29.png. Saving is useful when the screenshot will be attached to a ticket, archived, or compared with a later capture.
Markup before sharing
Circle the relevant field, add an arrow, or redact information before you copy or save. Edge provides pen/touch markup, and Snipping Tool provides an editor. Check the final image for passwords, personal data, access tokens, or other information that was visible in the selected area.
Troubleshooting
The Windows shortcut does nothing
Open Start, search for Snipping Tool, and launch it directly. You can then start a new snip from the app instead of the keyboard shortcut. Make sure the webpage is visible before selecting the capture mode.

The screenshot contains the wrong content
The selection is taken when you release the pointer. Cancel it, scroll the page to the required position, and repeat the drag. For a long page, switch to Edge full-page capture rather than trying to select content that is not currently on screen.
Edge Screenshot is not available
Use Snipping Tool, which works with any browser. In Edge, try the right-click menu and the Ctrl+Shift+S shortcut; command labels can change with browser updates, but Microsoft’s command name for Web capture is web_capture.
The long capture is incomplete
Confirm that you selected full-page capture, not selected-area capture. Pages with moving or dynamically loaded sections may not look identical from top to bottom; wait for the needed content to appear before starting, and inspect the saved image after export.
The image includes browser chrome
Snipping Tool captures the screen, so a selection that reaches above the page can include tabs, the address bar, or other windows. Start the drag inside the webpage. Edge’s webpage-aware selection is preferable when you need page content without surrounding screen elements.
