On Android, use More ⋮ > Share > Print > Save as PDF. Google’s current Chrome instructions for iPhone and iPad document AirPrint printing rather than a Chrome-specific PDF destination, so use Safari’s documented webpage-to-PDF workflow when you need a file on iOS.
Choose the workflow for your device
| Platform | Open print controls | PDF destination documented by Google | Where the file goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows, Linux, or Mac desktop | File > Print, Ctrl+P (Windows/Linux), or Command+P (Mac) | Save as PDF | The folder and filename you select after clicking Save |
| Android Chrome | More ⋮ > Share > Print | Save as PDF | The location selected in the Android save dialog |
| iPhone or iPad Chrome | Share > Print | Google’s instructions describe AirPrint; they do not describe a Chrome Save as PDF destination | AirPrint output, such as a printer; for a PDF file, use Safari’s alternative method below |
These paths come from Google’s desktop, Android, and iPhone and iPad help pages. Labels can vary with operating-system language, browser management, or Chrome updates, so follow the controls actually shown in your print preview.
Convert a page in Chrome on Windows, Linux, or Mac
1. Open the page and wait for its content
Navigate to the exact URL you want to archive. Let text, images, and any expandable content you need finish loading. Print-to-PDF uses Chrome’s print rendering of the current page; it is not a pixel-for-pixel screenshot of everything you see on screen. A site can therefore look different in preview, especially when it uses print-specific CSS, sticky navigation, advertisements, or lazy-loaded content.
2. Open print preview
- Choose File > Print from Chrome’s menu, or press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux.
- On macOS, press Command+P (or choose File > Print).
Chrome opens a print-preview window. If the preview does not appear, wait a moment for the system print dialog or check whether a pop-up was blocked.
3. Select Save as PDF
In the Destination field, select Save as PDF. Google identifies this as the desktop PDF destination and instructs users to click “Save as PDF” before saving the file: Google Chrome Help.

4. Set the output options
Review the preview page by page before saving. Depending on your Chrome and operating-system build, you may see:
- Pages or page range: save all pages or enter a range such as 2-5.
- Paper size: choose a size suitable for reading or printing.
- Layout: switch between portrait and landscape when wide tables or dashboards are clipped.
- Margins and scale: reduce scale or change margins if headings, columns, or code blocks are cut off. These controls are interface-dependent.
- Headers and footers: turn them on when you need the page title, URL, or date, or off for a cleaner document.
- Background graphics: enable them when colored panels or backgrounds carry meaning.
Google’s Chrome Enterprise documentation specifically identifies controls for default page size, headers and footers, and background graphics. A school or company policy can restrict or preselect those settings, so use what your preview exposes: Chrome policy documentation.
5. Save and name the PDF
Click Save, choose a folder, enter a descriptive filename, and confirm. Open the resulting PDF in your normal reader and check the first, middle, and last pages. If a page is blank, a table is truncated, or images are missing, return to preview and change the relevant setting before creating a replacement.

Save directly to Google Drive (optional)
Some desktop Chrome installations show Save to Google Drive as a print destination. Google notes that this destination requires the related extension; it is not a mandatory or universal Chrome feature. If it is absent, save the PDF locally and upload it with Drive for desktop or the Drive website. Do not confuse this optional destination with the core Save as PDF workflow.
Convert a page in Chrome on Android
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Tap More ⋮, then Share, then Print.
- Expand or review the print settings. Select the pages, paper size, orientation, or other controls your device presents.
- Choose Save as PDF as the printer or destination.
- Tap the save control, select a folder if Android asks, name the file, and confirm.
This is Google’s documented Android sequence: Print from Chrome on Android. Android manufacturers can skin the print service, so the final button may be labeled Save, Download, or show a PDF icon.
Check the Android result
Open the file from the notification, Files app, or the folder you selected. If Chrome sends you to a printer list instead, tap the printer/destination selector and choose the system PDF option. If no PDF option exists, install or enable an Android print service supplied by the device maker, then retry; the exact menu is device-specific.

What to do on iPhone or iPad
Chrome’s documented path is AirPrint
Google’s current iPhone and iPad help page tells you to use Share > Print and print through AirPrint. It does not document a Chrome-specific Save as PDF destination. Consequently, do not assume that the desktop or Android sequence will appear in iOS Chrome: Google’s iOS instructions describe printing, not saving a PDF file.
Safari alternative for a PDF file
When you need a PDF saved on an iPhone or iPad, Apple’s documented Safari workflow is:
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap Share, then tap Markup.
- Finish the markup view and tap Save File To.
- Choose a location in Files and save.
This is a Safari method, not a Chrome feature. Apple’s instructions are at Annotate and save a webpage as a PDF in Safari.
Print-to-PDF versus Save Page As
Print-to-PDF creates a PDF from the page’s print rendering. It is the appropriate built-in workflow when your goal is a portable document with pagination, margins, and print options.
Save Page As is a separate download operation. Chrome’s download documentation describes saving webpage files and associated resources; it does not produce the same paginated PDF: Download a file on your computer. Use Save Page As when you need an HTML copy for offline browsing, not when you specifically need a PDF.

Preview dynamic pages
Print preview may omit controls, overlays, videos, or content that appears only after scrolling or interaction. Expand an article’s “Read more” sections first, wait for lazy images, and verify that charts or code blocks are present. If the site offers a reader or print view, that often produces a cleaner source for the same print process.

Fix clipping and awkward page breaks
- Use landscape for wide tables, spreadsheets, and dashboards.
- Reduce scale slightly when the right edge is clipped; increasing scale can create more page breaks.
- Turn off headers and footers for compact handouts, or leave them on when provenance matters.
- Enable background graphics only when color conveys status or structure; it can increase file size.
- Use a page range to exclude cookie notices, cover pages, or unrelated sections that appear in the print rendering.
Managed Chrome considerations
On a work or school device, administrators can set defaults or restrict page size, headers and footers, and background graphics. If a control is missing or locked, it may be a policy decision rather than a browser fault. Ask the administrator or use an unmanaged profile for documents you are allowed to create.
Troubleshooting common failures
Print preview is blank or never finishes
Reload the page, wait for network requests to settle, and try print again. A script-heavy page may fail to produce a print layout; open its reader/print view if available. If only one site fails, the site’s print CSS or script is the likely cause.
Images or backgrounds are missing
Check Background graphics and confirm the images were loaded before opening preview. Some sites deliberately suppress background artwork in print CSS, so enabling the checkbox cannot override the site’s own rules.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsText is cut off or columns overlap
Try landscape, a smaller scale, or wider paper. Inspect multiple preview pages; a responsive layout can change at print width. For a long code sample, a narrower font or the site’s print stylesheet may be required.
The PDF opens but has blank pages
Blank pages can result from page-break rules, oversized elements, or an empty print-only container. Change scale or margins, and save a limited page range to identify the offending section. If the site provides a print-friendly URL, use it.
Android shows no Save as PDF
Open the destination selector in the system print screen and look for the built-in PDF printer. If it is disabled, enable the device’s print service in Android settings, then repeat More > Share > Print. Menu names differ by manufacturer.

If you need repeatable captures in code, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture it can accept cookie/consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
For a PDF, call the API endpoint (the request below uses the supplied URL as an example):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for PDF parameters, authentication, and output options. The same endpoint can be called from Python or Node.js:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Although the examples write an image filename, ScreenshotNeo also supports PDF output and options such as paper size, margins, orientation, page ranges, full-page lazy-image loading, CSS-selector element capture, custom CSS/JavaScript, click and wait actions, request blocking, headers, cookies, user-agent, timezone, geolocation, caching, signed links, asynchronous webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, and a usage API. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

FAQ
Does converting a page require a printer?
No. Desktop Chrome and Android can create a PDF with their built-in Save as PDF destinations; a physical printer is unnecessary.

Will a PDF preserve the webpage exactly?
No. It preserves Chrome’s print rendering, which can differ from the live layout and may omit interactive or print-hidden content.
Can I automate many URLs instead of printing each one?
Yes. A service such as ScreenshotNeo can process captures through an API, bulk requests, asynchronous jobs, or its MCP tools; configure PDF output in its documentation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the PDF saved on desktop Chrome?
Chrome asks you to choose the folder and filename after you click Save. The exact location is whichever path you select in that dialog.
Can I select only certain pages from a long webpage?
Yes. In desktop or Android print settings, use the page-range control when it is displayed, then preview the selected pages before saving.
Why is Chrome on iPhone different from desktop?
Google’s iPhone and iPad instructions document Share > Print through AirPrint and do not document a Chrome Save as PDF destination. Safari provides Apple’s documented webpage-to-PDF alternative.
