The simplest way to download a webpage as a PDF is to open it in your browser, choose Print, select Save as PDF (or Save to PDF), check the preview and save the file. In Chrome, Firefox and Edge, this built-in method usually avoids uploading the page to a converter. For a page cluttered with ads or navigation, try a reader view or print only the content you need.
Save a webpage as a PDF on a computer
Browser printing is the best default for a one-off PDF: it gives you a preview and controls for page range, orientation, margins and scale. Names and available options can vary with browser, operating system and printer setup. In each case, inspect the preview before saving; the PDF captures the printable rendering, which may differ from what you see on screen.
Google Chrome
- Open the webpage you want to save. Let it finish loading and, if needed, scroll through it so content that loads on demand has a chance to appear.
- Open Print with Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, Command+P on Mac, or File > Print where the menu is available.
- In the destination or printer list, choose Save as PDF.
- Adjust pages, layout, paper size, margins, scale, headers and footers, and background graphics. Check the preview for clipped text, missing images or unwanted blank pages.
- Select Save, choose a folder and filename, then open the PDF to verify the saved result.
Chrome also has a separate More > More tools > Save Page As option. That saves a webpage rather than producing the same print-layout PDF, so use the print destination when you specifically need a PDF. Mozilla Firefox
- Open the page, then choose File > Print or use the browser’s print command.
- In the print preview, choose Save to PDF from the destination or printer drop-down.
- Set the page range and any other available print options, then save the file and check it.
Mozilla’s instructions describe saving the displayed preview as a PDF. If you need only a portion of a page, select the content first and try the context-menu print command if your setup offers it. Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage and press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS, or select Settings and more > Print.
- Choose a PDF destination such as Save as PDF or the system PDF printer.
- Open More settings to adjust page range, margins, scale, paper size, headers and footers, and background graphics.
- Review the preview, save the file, and open it to confirm the pages look right.
To print highlighted text or images only, select them, right-click and choose Print if that option appears in the context menu. If Edge’s preview does not provide the controls you need, Microsoft documents a system-dialog route: Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Option+Command+P on macOS. What if you are using Safari or a phone?
Safari, iPhone and iPad, and Android do not share one menu sequence that is stable across versions. Look for Share or Print, then a PDF destination or a system action such as Save to Files. Labels and availability depend on the device, operating system and browser version; if a step differs, use the device’s print preview and available share or save destinations rather than assuming a desktop menu path applies.
Make the PDF easier to read
Remove clutter before printing
If ads, cookie notices, sidebars or navigation take over the preview, check whether the browser or site offers Reader view. Edge’s Immersive Reader is available only on some sites. Another option is to select the article text or images and print that selection, when the browser supports it. These approaches depend on the page structure, so inspect the preview to see what was actually removed.

Fix layout and appearance
- Wide tables or columns: try landscape orientation, adjust scale, or change margins. Preview the result before saving; reducing scale can fit more content but make it harder to read.
- Missing colors or page styling: enable Background graphics if the print settings offer it. Some webpages omit backgrounds in print view by design.
- Images or dynamic content missing: wait for the page to finish loading, scroll through it to prompt lazy-loaded elements, then reopen print preview. Content that requires interaction or fails to load may still not appear in the PDF.
- Very long page: expect the browser to split it across pages. Check the page range and final page count so you do not save an accidental partial document.
- Headers, footers or URLs you do not want: turn off headers and footers in print settings when that control is available.
Why is “Save as PDF” missing?
The PDF option may be listed under a destination drop-down rather than as a separate button. Check the printer or destination list for Save as PDF, Save to PDF or a system PDF printer. On older Windows systems without Microsoft Print to PDF, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau identifies Chrome’s built-in Save as PDF as a fallback: CFPB instructions for saving as PDF.
If you are using a managed work or school device, printer destinations may be restricted by its administrator. Try another browser already installed on the device, or ask the administrator which PDF destination is enabled. Do not install an unfamiliar converter just to restore a missing printer option.
Browser printing, online converters and repeat jobs

For an ordinary page, browser print offers the useful balance: local saving, control over page layout and no need to send the page to a converter. An external converter is worth considering only when you have a specific need such as batch processing or cleanup that your browser cannot provide.

Privacy and sensitive pages
Browser-native printing saves the rendered page on your device. An online converter, by contrast, requires you to send the page or its contents to a third party, so do not submit confidential or account-protected material unless you have established that the service is appropriate for it. A page behind a login may also render differently or fail in a converter that cannot access your session.

Common problems and fixes
The PDF is blank or incomplete
Return to the page, wait for loading to finish, and scroll through long content before opening print preview again. If the page requires a click to reveal text, reveal it first. Check the preview’s page range and restart the print flow if it still shows an empty or partial document.

Text is too small or columns are cut off
Try landscape for wide layouts, increase scale if text is too small, or adjust margins to gain space. These settings pull in different directions, so use the preview to find a readable fit rather than shrinking everything to force it onto fewer pages.
The saved file is not a PDF
Make sure the selected destination is a PDF option, not a physical printer or Chrome’s separate Save Page As feature. If the file opens in a browser or another app, check the filename extension and destination choice; Chrome also lets you configure whether downloaded PDFs open in the browser or download.

Can I save only one image from a webpage as a PDF?
Yes. Firefox Help notes that you can open a single image in a new tab and print it separately. The exact result depends on the browser’s print layout and the image dimensions.

Will links in the webpage remain clickable in the PDF?
That depends on the browser’s print output and the page itself. Check the saved file rather than assuming every link or interactive element will be preserved.
Can I save a webpage that requires a login?
Usually, print from the browser session in which you are already signed in, if the page is available to you. Avoid sending private page contents to a converter unless you trust it and understand how it handles submitted data.
