Press the Screenshot key (if your Chromebook has one) or Shift + Ctrl + Show windows to open capture controls. Choose Full screen, Partial, or Window. That built-in “full screen” option captures the display, not every section of a long webpage. For a whole webpage, GoFullPage scrolls through the page, joins the sections, and exports an image or PDF.
Choose the method that matches what you need
| What you need | Best method | What it captures | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| A picture of the current Chromebook display | ChromeOS Screen Capture | The visible full display, a selected region, or one window | Image saved to Downloads by default |
| Every section of a long webpage | GoFullPage Chrome extension | The page from top to bottom by scrolling and assembling sections | Image or PDF; very large captures may be split into multiple images |
| An automated capture from a URL without opening Chrome | ScreenshotNeo | A rendered webpage, with controls for full-page capture and cleanup | PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF |
If you are unsure, ask whether the content continues below the visible browser window. If it does, use the extension or an API; the Chromebook’s native Full screen command will not scroll through the page.
Take a screenshot of the visible Chromebook screen
Open Screen Capture
- Press the Screenshot key if your Chromebook keyboard includes one. It is usually marked with a rectangle and a small circle.
- If there is no Screenshot key, press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows. The Show windows key is the rectangle-with-two-lines key in the top row.
- On an external keyboard that has no Show windows key, use Ctrl + Shift + F5.
- You can also open Settings, search for Screen Capture, and open that panel.
Select the capture type
In the capture toolbar, choose Screenshot, then select one of these modes:
- Full screen: captures the current display. On a multi-display setup, check which display is selected before confirming.
- Partial: drag around the exact region you want.
- Window: click the application or browser window to capture it without surrounding desktop content.
Confirm the capture with the on-screen shutter button. ChromeOS saves the file in Downloads by default. To use another folder, open Settings > Screen Capture and change the save location. The file appears in the Files app, where you can rename, move, share, or edit it.

Understand what “full screen” means
Google’s Chromebook Help documents full-screen, partial, and window screenshots, but does not describe a built-in scrolling webpage command. A full-screen shot therefore records only what is displayed at that moment. If a page extends below the browser’s bottom edge, those unseen sections are not in the file.
Capture an entire scrolling webpage with GoFullPage
Install and check the extension
- Install GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture from its official Chrome Web Store listing.
- Review the listing’s current permissions and privacy disclosure before installation. The developer says it will not collect or use data; that statement is the developer’s disclosure, not an independent audit.
- Pin the extension to Chrome’s toolbar if you want its camera icon always visible.
The listing showed version 8.7 with an update date of September 10, 2026 when checked, but Chrome Web Store versions, permissions, and availability can change.
Run a full-page capture
- Open the webpage and wait for the content you need to load.
- Click the GoFullPage toolbar icon, or press Alt + Shift + P.
- Leave the tab active while the extension scrolls through the page and assembles the sections. Avoid clicking or switching tabs during this process.
- When the result opens, choose the image or PDF download option.
- Open the downloaded file and inspect the joins, text, images, and interactive sections before sending it to someone else.
GoFullPage’s listing says it can handle inner scrollable elements and embedded iframes. A very large capture may be split into images in separate tabs. Complex pages can still produce imperfect joins, so treat the downloaded file as something to verify rather than an automatic guarantee of pixel-perfect output.

Prepare pages that capture poorly
- Scroll the page manually once before starting if images or charts load only after entering the viewport.
- Close cookie notices, newsletter dialogs, and chat popups that obscure content. The extension captures what the page presents while it scrolls.
- For pages inside an application, ensure you are signed in and that the relevant panel is expanded.
- If the page contains sensitive information, remove it or use an approved account and browser profile. An extension with access to a page can potentially read the page while it operates.
Built-in capture or extension: which should you use?
Use the built-in tool when
- You need a quick proof of what is visible on screen.
- You want a partial selection or a single window rather than a complete webpage.
- You do not want to install browser software or grant it page access.
- You need the simplest file saved directly to Downloads.
Use GoFullPage when
- The target is a long article, dashboard, documentation page, or landing page that continues below the fold.
- You need one image or PDF containing the page from top to bottom.
- You accept an extension’s permissions and are willing to inspect the result for broken joins or missing content.
Use an API when
An API is more practical than a Chromebook tab when captures are repeated, need to run in a script or CI job, or must use a consistent viewport, device, headers, cookies, or PDF settings. It also avoids keeping a browser window open for every URL.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It supports full-page capture, lazy-image loading, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets, custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper and margin settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks before capture, selector waits, delays, network-idle waits, request and resource blocking, custom headers and cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, caching with your chosen TTL, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification.
Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

The keyboard shortcut does nothing
Use the on-screen route: open Settings > Screen Capture. If you are on an external keyboard, try Ctrl + Shift + F5 instead of the Chromebook Show windows shortcut. Managed school or work devices may restrict settings or extensions; contact the administrator if the controls are unavailable.
The result contains only the visible area
That is expected from ChromeOS’s native Full screen mode. Run GoFullPage (or an API) for content below the fold.

GoFullPage stops or misses sections
Reload the page, wait for it to finish loading, close overlays, and try again. If a page uses nested scroll containers, place the pointer over the intended area and confirm that the page itself—not only a panel—is scrolling. Check whether the output was split into separate tabs because of its size.
Images or embedded frames are blank
Some assets load only after scrolling, require a login, or restrict cross-origin embedding. Scroll through the page once, verify that you are authenticated, and inspect the final file. If the content is inside an iframe, capture the frame or use an API that supports selector and wait controls.
The file is too large to share
Export a PDF, crop irrelevant sections, or use an image editor to resize the result. For recurring work, set a viewport, capture only a CSS-selected element, or request a PDF through an API instead of producing one extremely tall bitmap.

Dismiss the popup before starting. ScreenshotNeo can remove known consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets automatically; a local extension cannot remove every site-specific overlay reliably.

- Read the first and last sections of a long capture to ensure the top and bottom were included.
- Zoom in on small text, tables, and charts before publishing or submitting the screenshot.
- Check that private URLs, account names, tokens, and customer data are not visible.
- Keep the original page URL and capture date with the file when the screenshot is evidence or documentation.
- For extension captures, review current Chrome Web Store permissions. For API captures, keep access keys out of source control and server logs.
FAQ
Can I take a full-page screenshot without installing anything?
Only if “full-page” means the currently visible display. ChromeOS includes full-screen, partial, and window capture, but its documented workflow does not scroll through a long webpage. A scrolling webpage capture requires an extension or an external screenshot service.
Where does ChromeOS save screenshots?
They go to Downloads by default. You can choose a different folder from Settings > Screen Capture.
Recommended Free Tools
Will a full-page capture always fit into one image?
No. GoFullPage notes that unusually large captures may be split into images in separate tabs. Open every resulting tab and verify that the sections are in the correct order.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Chromebook have a built-in scrolling screenshot button?
No documented ChromeOS control scrolls through an entire webpage. The native tool captures the display, a region, or a window; use a scrolling extension or API for a page longer than the viewport.
Can I save a Chromebook webpage capture as PDF?
GoFullPage lists PDF export for its assembled page capture. ChromeOS’s native screenshot control saves an image; use the browser’s print-to-PDF workflow when a document-style PDF is sufficient.
Is GoFullPage suitable for confidential pages?
Review its current Chrome Web Store permissions and privacy disclosure before use. The listing’s statement that the developer will not collect or use data is a developer disclosure, not an independent audit.
