Fastest method: open the page in Firefox, right-click an empty area, choose Take Screenshot (or press Command + Shift + S), select Save full page, then choose Download or Copy. “Save full page” captures the page beyond the visible browser window; “Save visible” captures only what is currently on screen.
These controls are built into Firefox on macOS, so you do not need an extension or special screenshot hardware. The labels below follow Mozilla’s current screenshot guidance, last updated June 15, 2026; wording can vary slightly between Firefox releases.
Take a full-page screenshot in Firefox on Mac
- Open the target page. Start Firefox and navigate to the web page you want to capture.
- Open Firefox’s screenshot tool. Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot. If the context menu is difficult to use, press Command + Shift + S.
- Choose the full-page mode. In the screenshot interface, select Save full page in the upper-right area. Do not select Save visible, which captures only the current viewport.
- Save or copy the image. Select Download to save the image, or select Copy and paste it into another application. On Mac, Command + C copies selected content, and Mozilla also documents Command + S as the Mac save shortcut.
A downloaded file is saved in Firefox’s normal download location. Mozilla describes a filename pattern like Screenshot year-month-day at hour-minute-second Page title.png, so the result is normally a PNG image with the capture time and page title in its name.
Full page versus visible area

If your image stops at the bottom edge of the browser window, reopen the screenshot tool and explicitly select Save full page. Choosing the visible option is the usual explanation for an apparently incomplete capture; the older support question about this behavior does not establish that the current Firefox feature is generally broken.

Use a toolbar button instead of the context menu
Firefox can place the screenshot command on its toolbar:
- Open the Firefox menu.
- Choose More Tools, then Customize Toolbar….
- Find the Screenshot item and drag it to the toolbar.
- Choose Done.
After that, click the toolbar’s Screenshot button whenever you need the capture interface. The same Save full page, Save visible, Download, and Copy choices remain available.
What the downloaded file contains
The result is an image of the web page rather than a PDF or a set of separate viewport images. Firefox’s documented example uses the PNG extension and a timestamped filename. The page itself can be much taller than the screen, but the screenshot is delivered as one image that you can open, paste, annotate, or attach like any other image file.

If you need the image in another format, open the PNG in an image editor on your Mac and export it there. The Firefox instructions reviewed here document saving and copying the screenshot, but do not document a format selector in the built-in interface.
Common problems and precise fixes
The context menu has no “Take Screenshot” item
Use the keyboard entry point instead: press Command + Shift + S while the page is open. If that opens a different macOS command or does nothing, click the page first so Firefox has focus, then press the shortcut again. You can also add the Screenshot button through Menu → More Tools → Customize Toolbar….
The image contains only what was visible
Run the tool again and choose Save full page in the upper-right of the screenshot interface. Save visible is a separate mode and intentionally excludes content outside the current viewport.

Download appears to do nothing
Check Firefox’s default download location and its downloads list. Mozilla’s documented behavior is that Download writes the file to the folder Firefox uses for normal downloads. If you only need the image in another app, choose Copy instead and paste it there.
Copy does not paste an image where expected
Use the screenshot interface’s Copy control, then paste into an application that accepts images. If you are copying through a Mac menu rather than the screenshot interface, the standard shortcut is Command + C.
The labels look different after a Firefox update
Firefox’s interface can change between releases. Look for the screenshot command and the two capture choices named Save full page and Save visible. Mozilla’s current support page is the reference for the latest wording; the guidance used here was last updated June 15, 2026.

The page is not the one you intended to capture
Close the screenshot interface, switch to the correct Firefox tab, and start again. The tool captures the page in the active tab, so verify the address and page title before downloading.
When Firefox’s built-in tool is the right choice
- One-off captures: It is already included with Firefox and requires no installation.
- Manual review: You can inspect the page before choosing full-page or visible capture.
- Image-based sharing: Download creates a file you can attach or edit, while Copy sends it directly to another app.
- Simple Mac workflow: The context-menu command, keyboard shortcut, or optional toolbar button all open the same interface.
For a small number of pages, this is usually simpler than configuring automation. The built-in instructions establish no need for an extension, accessory, or dedicated screenshot hardware.
When an API is more practical
Manual Firefox captures become awkward when a developer must repeat the same job for many URLs, run captures in a build pipeline, request a PDF, or control cookies, headers, waits, viewport dimensions, and output formats. An API can make those settings explicit and return a file from a single request.
