Choose Screenshot Otter for a small, polished batch

How to make App Store and Google Play screenshots
- Capture the app. Use a simulator or physical device and capture the real screens at the required orientation. Remove test data, debug banners and personal information.
- Prepare source files. Keep PNG, JPG or WebP files at their original quality. Name them by slide purpose, such as 01-dashboard and 02-sharing.
- Pick the free plan that matches the release. Check whether you need iPad, Android tablet, multiple languages, more than five slides or more than two exports per day.
- Choose a template and device frame. Use the same typography, background treatment and frame style across the set. Avoid decorative effects that obscure the interface.
- Write concise captions. Explain a user benefit rather than repeating a button label. Keep one idea per slide and preview it at thumbnail size.
- Generate every required size. Use multi-size export where available. Otherwise create each Apple and Google target deliberately rather than stretching one image.
- Inspect the ZIP before upload. Open every image, check dimensions, orientation, cropping, transparency and language. Confirm that no watermark or accidental test data appears.
- Upload in the store console. Store publishing integrations are not universal on free plans; upload files manually when direct App Store Connect or Google Play publishing is unavailable.
Design and localization checklist
- Show the clearest value proposition in the first screenshot.
- Use high contrast between caption text and its background.
- Keep important UI controls inside safe margins so device frames do not cover them.
- Do not rely on tiny text that is legible only at full resolution.
- Translate captions and any in-image UI for each locale; do not translate only the store listing.
- Check text expansion in German, French and other longer translations before exporting.
- Use the correct phone or tablet frame for each target instead of placing a phone capture in a tablet layout.
- Retain editable source files so a feature change does not require rebuilding every slide from scratch.
Common problems and fixes
The export has the wrong dimensions
Select the store-specific size or use a tool that supports exact Apple and Google resolutions, such as FrameShot. Do not upscale a small capture; recapture at the simulator or device resolution.

You want to avoid uploading sensitive screenshots

For a one-time launch, a no-login tool can be faster than configuring a publishing integration. For recurring releases, count locales, device families and expected revisions first. A two-export-per-day or five-screenshot allowance can become the bottleneck even when the design features are sufficient. Keep a master project and export checklist so a store metadata change does not create inconsistent slides.
