The answer to “Samsung Raises Prices: Will Smartphones and Computers Be More Expensive Soon?” is partly yes: Samsung’s U.S. Galaxy S26 and S26+ launched $100 above comparable S25-generation models, while the S26 Ultra kept its $1,299.99 starting MSRP. Galaxy Book6 prices also show pressure, but Samsung has not confirmed a blanket increase across every device.

This assessment applies to U.S. Samsung pricing and information available on August 16, 2026. Prices below are pre-tax unless stated otherwise, and Samsung promotions, trade-in credits, inventory, and carrier offers can change the amount a buyer actually pays.

Key takeaways

  • The U.S. Galaxy S26 and S26+ launched about $100 higher than comparable Galaxy S25-generation models, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra retained a $1,299.99 starting MSRP.
  • Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet listed Galaxy S26 prices from $799.99 for 128GB to $1,799.99 for the 1TB S26 Ultra.
  • Samsung said on July 30, 2026, that rising component costs and soft consumer demand would continue into the second half of 2026.
  • AI-server demand is tightening the market for server DRAM, enterprise SSDs, and HBM, which can increase pressure on memory and storage used in consumer devices.
  • Another company-wide Samsung price increase is possible but not confirmed; reduced discounts, smaller trade-in offers, and changed RAM or storage configurations may arrive before higher MSRPs.

Samsung Raises Prices: Will Smartphones and Computers Be More Expensive Soon?

Samsung has already raised the launch price of some 2026 products, but the evidence does not support saying that every Samsung phone or computer is about to become more expensive. Samsung is using a selective approach: some new models cost more, some headline prices are unchanged, and promotions can temporarily reduce the amount customers pay.

The strongest confirmed signal comes from the Galaxy S26 family. The U.S. base Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ launched at higher prices than comparable S25-generation models, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra started at the same $1,299.99 MSRP as the S25 Ultra. The comparison must account for storage changes, because a manufacturer can change the entry-level capacity and make a generational price comparison look simpler than it is.

Which Samsung phone prices have actually increased?

The Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ are the clearest confirmed U.S. smartphone examples of higher launch pricing. The S26 Ultra did not receive a higher starting MSRP, so the accurate description is a selective price increase rather than a uniform increase across the entire flagship range.

Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet lists the following launch prices:

Phone Storage U.S. launch MSRP
Galaxy S26 128GB $799.99
Galaxy S26 256GB $899.99
Galaxy S26 512GB $1,099.99
Galaxy S26+ 256GB $1,099.99
Galaxy S26+ 512GB $1,299.99
Galaxy S26 Ultra 256GB $1,299.99
Galaxy S26 Ultra 512GB $1,499.99
Galaxy S26 Ultra 1TB $1,799.99

The widely reported $100 increase applies to equivalent S25 and S26 comparisons, especially the base Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+. The exact conclusion can change if the storage tier, preorder promotion, or predecessor configuration differs. The base S26’s $799.99 128GB version should therefore be compared with the equivalent S25 storage model rather than with a different S25 tier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Samsung’s current Galaxy S26 Ultra page lists the 256GB model at $1,299.99, the 512GB model at $1,499.99, and the 1TB model at $1,799.99 before promotions or trade-in credits. A same-price starting MSRP does not mean every storage tier or every sale price remained unchanged.

MSRP is not the same as the price you pay

Samsung’s MSRP is the standard reference price, not necessarily the checkout total. Samsung may apply an instant discount, storage-upgrade promotion, trade-in credit, preorder credit, bundle offer, or financing deal. A carrier may also spread a discount across monthly bill credits.

For a meaningful comparison, record all of these separately:

Price measure What it means What to check
MSRP The manufacturer’s listed reference price Same model, RAM, storage, and region
Samsung sale price A temporary direct discount Promotion end date and eligible configuration
Carrier price Upfront price or monthly device charge through a carrier Required plan, activation, and bill-credit period
Trade-in-adjusted price Price after Samsung or a carrier values an old device Condition rules, payoff requirements, and credit timing
Final out-of-pocket cost Total cash or financed amount paid by the buyer Tax, APR, service requirements, and forfeited credits

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 product page shows why the current checkout price can differ from the official MSRP: the page advertises direct discounts and trade-in promotions that change over time.

Has Samsung raised Galaxy Book prices?

Galaxy Book6 launch pricing shows higher costs at the premium end of Samsung’s U.S. laptop range, but a universal Galaxy Book6 increase cannot be established without matching each Book5 and Book6 configuration.

Samsung announced U.S. availability for the Galaxy Book6 series on March 11, 2026. The launch announcement listed the Galaxy Book6 Pro from $1,599.99 and the Galaxy Book6 Ultra from $2,449.99. Those are starting prices, not necessarily the price of the configurations shown on Samsung’s store.

Samsung’s Galaxy Book6 U.S. launch announcement provides the availability date and launch prices. Samsung’s current store pages have shown individual configurations at substantially different prices, including examples around $1,749.99, a discounted Book6 Pro around $2,049.99, and a Book6 Ultra around $3,599.99, depending on processor, screen, memory, storage, graphics, and promotion.

Samsung’s product-level Galaxy Book6 listing illustrates why a headline price comparison can mislead. A 16-inch laptop with more RAM, a larger SSD, a different processor, a higher-end display, or discrete graphics is not equivalent to a lower-priced entry configuration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Tom’s Guide reported that some Galaxy Book6 Pro and Ultra configurations were approximately 20% more expensive than previous-generation equivalents. That report should be treated as a model-matched comparison, not proof that every Galaxy Book6 model increased by 20%.

How should you compare Galaxy Book5 and Book6 prices?

Compare the complete specification, not just the product family name. The correct Book5-to-Book6 comparison matches the following characteristics:

  1. Screen size and panel type.
  2. Processor class and generation.
  3. System memory, such as 16GB or 32GB.
  4. SSD capacity, such as 512GB or 1TB.
  5. Integrated or discrete graphics.
  6. Display resolution and refresh characteristics.
  7. Warranty and included software.
  8. Samsung’s price on the same date, with the same promotion status.

A discounted Galaxy Book5 can be the better purchase for office work, browsing, streaming, and ordinary school use if the Book6’s processor, NPU, display, or battery improvements do not matter to the buyer. Samsung’s Galaxy Book5 store pages are relevant when checking clearance inventory, but availability and configuration discounts may change quickly.

Why are Samsung devices under price pressure?

The main documented pressure is competition for memory and storage components. Samsung’s Q2 2026 results, reported on July 30, 2026, said rising component costs and soft consumer demand were expected to persist during the second half of 2026.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Samsung’s Q2 2026 results said memory prices were benefiting from an industry-wide upward trend. Samsung also said AI infrastructure demand was increasing demand for server DRAM, enterprise SSDs, and high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, while supply remained constrained.

The supply chain matters because a phone or laptop contains several types of memory and storage:

Component Plain-language function Why it matters to Samsung devices
DRAM or LPDDR Short-term working memory Used for multitasking in phones and computers; higher capacities increase component cost
NAND Persistent flash storage Stores apps, photos, documents, and the operating system
HBM Very high-bandwidth memory Primarily supports AI accelerators and data-center systems, competing for manufacturing capacity and investment
SoC or processor Runs apps and system operations New AI features can require more powerful CPU, GPU, or neural-processing hardware
Display, battery, camera, and cooling Other major device subsystems Can raise costs independently, but Samsung has not attributed a specific 2026 increase to each component

AI is therefore an important indirect driver, not proof that every Samsung device became more expensive because of AI. AI data centers consume large quantities of server DRAM, HBM, and enterprise SSDs. When manufacturers prioritize those products, consumer memory and storage can face tighter supply or higher market prices.

AI-capable consumer devices can also cost more because they may include additional RAM and storage, a more powerful processor or neural-processing unit, stronger cooling, and more software development. The presence of an AI feature alone does not prove that the feature caused a particular retail price increase.

Why can Samsung’s phones become more expensive when Samsung makes memory?

Samsung’s semiconductor business and device businesses have different economics, so higher memory prices can benefit one division while pressuring another. Samsung’s memory division can earn more by selling scarce memory to server and AI customers, while Samsung’s mobile and PC divisions face a higher market value or internal opportunity cost for components used in consumer devices.

Samsung’s Q2 2026 results describe both conditions: the Memory Business achieved record quarterly revenue and operating profit, while device businesses faced elevated component-cost pressure. Samsung’s public earnings release does not disclose the exact internal transfer price used for every Galaxy phone or laptop, so the effect cannot be calculated as a simple one-to-one pass-through.

The distinction is important:

  1. A memory-chip price increase is a component-market event.
  2. A higher internal component cost affects Samsung’s manufacturing margin.
  3. A wholesale price change affects carriers and retailers.
  4. An official MSRP change affects the manufacturer’s advertised price.
  5. A promotion or carrier subsidy changes the buyer’s final cost without necessarily changing MSRP.

Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report also discusses rising memory costs affecting smartphones and PCs. The report supports a broad cost-pressure explanation, but it does not establish that memory alone caused the S26 or Galaxy Book6 price changes.

Is AI responsible for higher Samsung phone and laptop prices?

AI is a significant market factor, but AI alone is not a verified explanation for every Samsung retail-price change. Samsung’s public explanation for the S26 and S26+ emphasized product improvements, while outside reporting connected the higher launch prices with memory shortages and semiconductor pressure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The most defensible explanation is mixed:

  • AI-server demand is increasing demand for HBM, server DRAM, and enterprise SSDs.
  • Component supply remains constrained even though mobile and PC demand is moderating.
  • New phones and AI PCs may require more memory, storage, processing power, or cooling.
  • Samsung may also be pricing premium upgrades, cameras, displays, and industrial design improvements into a new model.
  • Samsung has not said that AI alone caused the S26 price increase.

It is reasonable to infer that Samsung’s allocation of scarce semiconductor capacity toward higher-value server products can increase pressure on consumer devices. That is an inference from Samsung’s stated market conditions, not a public Samsung statement that the company is deliberately penalizing phone buyers.

Will Samsung raise prices again soon?

Another Samsung price increase is possible, but Samsung has not confirmed a blanket increase across its future smartphones and computers. The company’s own outlook supports continued cost pressure, while weak consumer demand and intense competition give Samsung reasons to protect sales with promotions or unchanged headline prices.

Evidence What it supports What it does not prove
Samsung expects rising component costs in the second half of 2026 Further margin or pricing pressure is plausible Every Samsung product will receive a specific price increase
AI-server demand is keeping some memory markets undersupplied Memory and storage costs may remain difficult AI alone caused every consumer-device price change
S26 and S26+ launched at higher prices Samsung has already passed some pressure into new-device pricing Existing Galaxy devices will immediately receive higher MSRPs
Soft consumer demand Samsung may use discounts or absorb some costs to preserve volume Prices must fall soon
Reports of possible future increases Worth monitoring model-specific announcements An official company-wide pricing policy

Samsung can respond to higher costs in several ways:

  • Raise the launch MSRP of a new model.
  • Keep MSRP unchanged but reduce the size of discounts.
  • Offer fewer free storage upgrades.
  • Use less RAM or storage at a given price.
  • Reduce trade-in values or spread credits across longer carrier commitments.
  • Absorb the cost and accept a lower device-business margin.
  • Raise only premium models while protecting mainstream price points.

Reports about possible price changes for future foldables should not be treated as official until Samsung publishes the relevant U.S. price. User reports and secondary claims are not enough to establish a Galaxy Z Fold or Galaxy Z Flip pricing policy.

Will phones or laptops be affected more?

Laptops may show more visible configuration inflation because laptops combine system RAM, SSD storage, processors, displays, cooling hardware, and sometimes discrete graphics. Phones may instead show the effect through higher launch prices, reduced storage promotions, lower trade-in values, or differences between storage tiers.

What could change on Samsung phones?

Phone buyers should watch LPDDR memory, NAND storage, application processors, camera systems, displays, and promotions. Premium phones can absorb higher component costs more easily than budget phones, but competition limits how much Samsung can charge in each segment.

A higher-storage phone may be particularly vulnerable to price changes because NAND costs affect the upgrade tier directly. A temporary free-storage promotion can also hide the underlying price of the larger-capacity version. Compare the cash price of the exact storage tier rather than assuming that a “double storage” offer represents a permanent value.

What could change on Samsung laptops?

Laptop buyers should watch RAM and SSD capacity first, then processor generation, NPU capability, display, graphics, and cooling. A laptop marketed as an AI PC may cost more because of several combined upgrades rather than because of memory alone.

Windows Copilot+ compatibility does not automatically make a Galaxy Book6 the best value for every buyer. Should you buy a Samsung phone now or wait?

Buy now when the net price is strong and the device solves an immediate need; wait when the current phone works, promotions are weak, and the buyer is flexible about model or brand.

Buy now if:

  • The current phone is unreliable and replacement is needed within the next one to three months.
  • A Samsung promotion provides a valuable trade-in credit or storage upgrade that materially lowers the net cost.
  • The buyer needs high storage and would pay more if storage promotions become less generous.
  • The buyer can accept the required carrier plan or financing terms.
  • The buyer has compared Samsung’s direct offer with the total cost of a carrier offer.

Wait if:

  • The existing phone is still working well.
  • The current discount is small or depends on an unsuitable carrier contract.
  • The buyer is willing to consider a previous-generation Galaxy, Google Pixel, iPhone, or another Android phone.
  • The buyer does not need the newest processor, camera system, or AI features.
  • The buyer wants to observe the next launch cycle rather than pay a new-model premium.

Where can phone buyers find value?

Previous-generation Galaxy S25 models may offer better value when Samsung or retailers clear inventory. Certified pre-owned Samsung phones can also lower the purchase price, but buyers should verify battery condition, warranty, return rights, software support, and whether the model is compatible with the intended U.S. carrier.

Galaxy A-series phones are another lower-cost route, but a fair comparison must include processor performance, camera quality, display, storage, charging, and update support. A lower purchase price is not automatically better value if the phone requires an earlier replacement.

Should you buy a Samsung laptop now or wait?

Buy a Galaxy Book now when a matched configuration is discounted and the buyer needs a laptop; wait when the current computer works and the Book6 premium mainly pays for features the buyer will not use.

For a Book6 purchase, compare the exact configuration against discounted Book5 inventory and competing Windows laptops. Match RAM, SSD, processor class, display, graphics, warranty, and software before deciding that one generation is cheaper or more expensive.

The Galaxy Book6 Ultra is aimed at demanding creators and power users, not basic browsing and office work. A buyer who needs video editing, graphics performance, or sustained demanding workloads may value the Ultra’s higher specification. A buyer who mainly needs email, documents, web applications, streaming, and video calls should consider a lower tier or clearance model before paying for premium hardware.

How can you avoid overpaying for a Samsung device?

  1. Write down the exact configuration. Record model, screen size, RAM, SSD capacity, processor, graphics, and color if inventory matters.
  2. Separate MSRP from the dated sale price. A sale on August 16, 2026 is not evidence that Samsung’s MSRP or component costs are unchanged.
  3. Calculate the net cash price. Subtract only trade-in credits that you realistically qualify for, then add tax and required fees.
  4. Calculate financed purchases in full. Multiply the monthly payment by the number of payments and add interest, activation charges, and any required plan cost.
  5. Read trade-in conditions. Check damage rules, payoff requirements, carrier restrictions, credit timing, and what happens if the line is canceled.
  6. Compare direct and carrier offers. Carrier bill credits may lower the monthly cost but can require continued service for the entire credit period.
  7. Check older inventory. A previous-generation Galaxy S or Galaxy Book may have been purchased before the latest component-cost increase and may now be discounted.
  8. Compare alternative brands honestly. Google Pixel, Apple, Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Microsoft Surface may offer different value, but ecosystem, operating system, ports, warranty, and software compatibility matter.
  9. Do not buy premium hardware for ordinary tasks. An Ultra phone or Book6 Ultra is difficult to justify for messaging, browsing, office work, and streaming alone.

What is the most likely form of a future Samsung price increase?

The most likely consumer impact is not necessarily a sudden price change on every existing product. New launches may carry higher MSRPs, while existing products may keep their listed prices but receive smaller discounts, lower trade-in values, fewer storage upgrades, or less generous bundles.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That outcome would make Samsung devices more expensive in practice without requiring Samsung to announce an across-the-board MSRP increase. Buyers should therefore track the final net price, not just the headline number on a product page.

U.S. prices should not be generalized to the United Kingdom, Europe, Canada, Australia, or Asian markets. VAT, currency movement, local warranty rules, distribution costs, regional storage configurations, and carrier pricing can produce different increases or decreases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Did Samsung raise Galaxy S26 prices in the U.S.?

Yes. The U.S. Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ launched about $100 higher than comparable Galaxy S25-generation models, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra retained a $1,299.99 starting MSRP. Storage configurations and promotions can change the exact comparison.

Will all Samsung phones and laptops become more expensive in 2026?

No blanket increase has been confirmed. Samsung has warned that rising component costs will persist in the second half of 2026, but Samsung may respond with higher launch prices, weaker promotions, changed configurations, or lower margins instead of raising every MSRP.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is AI the reason Samsung devices cost more?

AI is an important indirect factor because AI data centers are increasing demand for HBM, server DRAM, and enterprise SSDs. Samsung has not established that AI alone caused every Galaxy phone or Galaxy Book price change; product upgrades and broader component costs also matter.

Should I buy a Samsung phone before prices rise again?

Buy now if you need a phone soon and a Samsung promotion produces a strong net price after trade-in. Wait if your current phone works, the promotion is weak, and you can compare future launches, previous-generation Galaxy models, or competing brands.

How should I compare Galaxy Book5 and Galaxy Book6 prices?

Match screen size, processor class, RAM, SSD capacity, display, graphics, warranty, software, and promotion status. A Book6 configuration with more memory, storage, or graphics is not a fair comparison with a lower-specification Book5.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Samsung has already raised prices on some 2026 devices, particularly the Galaxy S26 and S26+, and Galaxy Book6 pricing shows continued pressure in premium computers. Samsung’s component-cost outlook makes further increases possible, but another blanket increase is not confirmed. For buyers, the practical risk is a combination of higher launch prices, weaker promotions, smaller trade-in credits, and changed configurations. Buy when the dated net price is strong; wait when the current device works and the offer is weak.
