To change Edge’s default text size, open Settings and more (…) > Settings > Appearance, then choose a size under Fonts > Font size. To adjust font style or other available font options, select Customize fonts on the same page. For an individual supported article, Reading mode has separate font controls.

Change Edge’s default font size

The Font size setting changes Edge’s default font size. It is separate from page zoom, which magnifies the page.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Appearance.
  5. Under Fonts, open the Font size dropdown.
  6. Choose a size.

Microsoft describes this setting as changing Edge’s default font size. Some Appearance controls may differ or be unavailable depending on your Edge version, and websites may use their own styling.

Microsoft identifies Customize fonts as the place to customize the size and style of fonts used in Edge. Its current support information does not list every control or its exact labels, so the options you see may vary.

These settings control Edge’s default font behavior; they do not guarantee that every website will use your chosen typeface. A site may define its own fonts or styling.

Font size versus page zoom

Both Font size and page zoom are available from Appearance, but they serve different purposes.

Adjust text in Reading mode

Reading mode has independent font controls for supported pages, so you can adjust an article without changing Edge’s general font preferences.

Turn on Reading mode

  1. Open Settings and more (…) > Settings > Appearance.
  2. In the Toolbar area, turn on Reading mode.
  3. Open a supported page.
