Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf YouTube is not working in Microsoft Edge on Windows 11, first check whether the problem affects one video, all YouTube videos, or other websites too. Then restart Edge, update Edge and Windows, and test YouTube in an InPrivate window to check for extension conflicts. If videos buffer or display corrupted colors, follow the network or graphics steps below rather than changing unrelated browser settings.
These checks can help narrow the cause, but without testing your PC, no single fix can be guaranteed. Compare the same video in another browser or on another device if the problem continues.
1. Check the scope and restart Edge
- Try another website in Edge. If other sites also fail to load, the problem may not be limited to YouTube.
- Try a different YouTube video. One video may be unavailable even when YouTube itself works.
- Close extra tabs and apps, then close and reopen Edge and try again.
- If the problem persists, restart Windows and retry the video.
Microsoft notes that excess tabs, extensions, and apps can affect Edge performance. YouTube also recommends reopening the browser and restarting the device when playback fails.
2. Update Edge and Windows
YouTube recommends keeping your browser and computer up to date. Older browser versions may have trouble with newer YouTube features.

- Allow Edge to check for and install available updates, then restart the browser if prompted.
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update, check for updates, and install any available updates.
- Restart Windows if requested, then test YouTube again.
3. Test YouTube in an InPrivate window
An extension or saved site data may interfere with YouTube. Open a new InPrivate window from Edge’s menu, visit YouTube, and try the same video. If playback works there, an extension or browser profile data may be involved.
YouTube recommends testing a private window with extensions disabled. InPrivate behavior can depend on your Edge settings, so if extensions are still active, use the extension controls below to turn them off temporarily.
4. Temporarily disable extensions
- Open Edge’s menu and select Extensions, then Manage extensions. The exact wording may vary by version.
- Turn extensions off temporarily and reload YouTube.
- If playback works, turn extensions back on one at a time, reloading YouTube after each change.
- If you identify a conflict, leave that extension disabled while using YouTube or remove it if you no longer need it.
Ad blockers and other extensions can interfere with playback, but that does not mean every ad blocker causes problems. Test extensions individually to identify whether one is involved.

If YouTube continues to load incorrectly, clearing cached files is a reasonable next step. If that does not help, clear YouTube’s site cookies or broader cookies using Edge’s browsing-data controls. Menu labels can change between Edge versions.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Open Edge’s Settings and find the controls for clearing browsing data.
- Clear cached files first, then close and reopen Edge and test YouTube.
- If the problem remains, clear YouTube site cookies or cookies through the same controls, then sign in again if needed.
Deleting cookies can sign you out of websites. YouTube recommends clearing cache and cookies for playback errors.
6. Troubleshoot buffering and connection problems
If YouTube videos keep buffering, stall, or drop in quality, test the same video on another network if one is available. You can also lower the video resolution and close other apps or devices using the connection. A wired connection may be worth testing when Wi-Fi is unstable; it will not fix an Edge extension or video-rendering issue.

If other websites and apps also have connection problems, investigate the broader network rather than changing Edge settings. If the same YouTube video fails in multiple browsers or on multiple devices, the problem is less likely to be specific to Edge. These comparisons do not, by themselves, confirm a YouTube service outage.
7. Troubleshoot green or corrupted video
If audio plays but the picture is green or corrupted, compare playback in another browser. If the problem is limited to video rendering, check for graphics-driver updates from your PC manufacturer. YouTube recommends trying another browser and says graphics-driver updates may correct listed video problems.
YouTube’s cited hardware-acceleration instructions are for Chrome, not Edge. Do not assume the Chrome settings path applies to Edge; use Edge’s own help for browser-specific graphics settings.

FAQ
Why does YouTube work in another browser but not Edge?
The problem may be limited to Edge, its extensions, or its saved site data. Test an InPrivate window with extensions disabled, then turn extensions back on one at a time. If needed, clear cached files or YouTube site cookies.
Can an ad blocker stop YouTube videos from playing in Edge?
An extension, including an ad blocker, can interfere with playback. Test with extensions disabled, then re-enable them one at a time to see whether a particular extension is involved.
What should I do if YouTube keeps buffering?
Try another network, lower the video resolution, and check whether other devices or apps are using the connection. If Wi-Fi appears unstable, testing a wired connection may help identify whether the connection is the issue.

Why is YouTube audio playing but the video is green or corrupted?
Compare the same video in another browser and check for graphics-driver updates from your PC manufacturer. YouTube’s hardware-acceleration instructions cited here are Chrome-specific, so use Edge’s own help for Edge settings.
Will clearing cookies fix YouTube in Edge?
It may help if saved site data is causing a loading or playback problem. Try clearing cached files first; if you clear cookies, expect to sign in to affected websites again.
The Bottom Line
Start with the least disruptive checks: try another video, restart Edge, update Edge and Windows, and test an InPrivate window with extensions disabled. Clear cached files or YouTube site data if loading still fails. For buffering, compare networks and lower resolution; for green or corrupted video, try another browser and check for graphics-driver updates.
