You can use iMessage conversations on an Android phone, but the current Beeper method is not Android-only. It requires a Mac that is signed in to Apple’s Messages app and remains available to run the connection.
Beeper’s Android app acts as the client you use on your phone. The iMessage connection itself is created in Beeper Desktop on macOS, where Beeper controls the Mac’s Messages app. Older guides describing Beeper Mini or a direct Android-to-iMessage connection are no longer current.
What you need
- An Android phone with the Beeper app installed from Google Play.
- A Mac with the Messages app configured for iMessage.
- The same Beeper account signed in on Android and on the Mac.
- A Mac that can remain available for Beeper’s on-device iMessage connection.
Beeper’s iMessage integration is currently offered only through Beeper on a Mac. You cannot create the iMessage connection from Beeper on Android, Windows, Linux, or another device.
1. Set up your Beeper account on Android
- Install Beeper from Google Play.
- Open the app and create an account with your email address, or sign in if you already have one.
- Enter the six-digit code Beeper sends to your email.
- Choose a username and tap Next.
- Copy and save the displayed Recovery Code.
Do not treat the Recovery Code as an ordinary password. Store it somewhere secure. You can view it later in Settings > Your Account > Dropdown Menu > Beeper Recovery Code.

During Android onboarding, Beeper may require you to connect a chat network before you can finish setup. If you connect a network temporarily, Beeper says you can delete it later. This screen does not connect iMessage from Android.
2. Connect iMessage from the Mac
- Install and open Beeper Desktop on the Mac.
- Sign in with the same Beeper account used on your Android phone.
- In Beeper Desktop, open Settings > Accounts > Add an Account > iMessage.
- Follow the prompts to grant Beeper the requested macOS permissions.
- Wait for Beeper to display “iMessage account connected successfully.”
The requested permissions have specific jobs:

This is an on-device connection. Beeper automates the Messages app on the Mac rather than providing an Android-native iMessage client. The Messages app may open or briefly flash on screen when Beeper starts. That behavior is expected: Beeper tries to keep Messages hidden behind its own interface, but it cannot always do so instantly.
3. Use iMessage on your Android phone
- Open Beeper on Android and sign in to the account connected on the Mac.
- Allow the app to synchronize your chats.
- Open an existing iMessage conversation, or start a new chat from Beeper.
- Send messages normally through the conversation.
Your Android phone is now the device you use to read and send the conversation, while the Mac provides the iMessage connection. Beeper says messages are sent only when you explicitly send them; it does not initiate messages on its own.
Beeper messages should match their appearance in the Mac’s Messages app. If a message, reaction, attachment, or conversation looks different, report the discrepancy as a bug through Beeper rather than assuming Android is displaying a separate iMessage history.

What this setup does—and does not do

Fix iMessage connection problems
Beeper says it cannot access iMessage data
Granting the visible permissions may not be enough. On the Mac, open:
System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access
Enable Beeper Desktop, then completely quit Beeper with Command-Q and relaunch it.
A permission is enabled, but Beeper acts as if it is missing
- Open the relevant section in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Turn the Beeper permission off.
- Turn it back on.
- Quit Beeper completely with Command-Q.
- Launch Beeper again.
- If the problem remains, restart the Mac.
Beeper Desktop does not appear in Privacy & Security
Fully quit and restart Beeper, then reboot the Mac. Also check that you do not have multiple Beeper installations present. Multiple copies can prevent macOS from displaying or applying the expected permission entry.

Reset all Beeper permissions
If the permission prompts are stuck or the settings appear inconsistent, open Terminal and run this exact command:
tccutil reset All com.automattic.beeper.desktop
Quit Terminal, relaunch Beeper, and grant the permissions again when prompted. Beeper notes that beta versions may use a different application identifier; in that case, contact Beeper Support for the appropriate reset command instead of guessing.
Keeping the connection reliable
- Keep the Mac signed in to the Apple account used by Messages.
- Keep Beeper Desktop installed and running on that Mac.
- Do not revoke Accessibility, Contacts, Messages Data, Automation, or Full Disk Access permissions after setup.
- Use the same Beeper account on Android and the Mac.
- When troubleshooting, quit Beeper completely rather than merely closing its window.
Beeper supports apps on Android, iPhone and iPad, macOS, Windows, Linux, and ChromeOS, but that broad device support should not be confused with iMessage connection support. The iMessage portion is specifically restricted to macOS.

Can I get iMessage on Android without owning a Mac?
Not with Beeper’s current iMessage integration. A Mac is required to create and operate the on-device connection through the macOS Messages app.

Can I connect iMessage from the Beeper Android app?
No. Create the connection in Beeper Desktop by opening Settings > Accounts > Add an Account > iMessage on the Mac, then sign in to the same Beeper account on Android.
Does Beeper Mini still provide the current Android iMessage method?
No. Beeper describes Beeper Mini as a short-lived iMessage-on-Android app. Current setup documentation points to Beeper Desktop on macOS instead.
Why does the Messages app open when Beeper starts?
That is expected. Beeper automates Messages in the background and tries to hide its window behind Beeper, although Messages may briefly become visible.
What should I do if Beeper cannot read Messages after I grant permissions?
Enable Beeper Desktop under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access, quit Beeper with Command-Q, and relaunch it. If needed, toggle the relevant permissions off and on, then restart the Mac.
Can I use my existing Beeper account on Android and Mac?
Yes. Sign in with the same account on both devices. The Android app provides access to the chats, while Beeper Desktop on the Mac establishes the iMessage connection.
The Bottom Line
The supported way to use iMessage conversations on an Android phone is Beeper paired with a Mac. Set up the Beeper account on Android, connect iMessage at Beeper Desktop > Settings > Accounts > Add an Account > iMessage on macOS, approve the permissions, and then use the same Beeper account on your phone. There is currently no Android-only Beeper setup for iMessage, and claims that Beeper Mini provides the active Mac-free method are outdated.
