Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWhere you can move the Google search bar depends on which bar you mean. The Google widget on an Android Home screen can usually be dragged. The search bar built into Pixel Launcher cannot currently be moved with Pixel’s standard settings. In Chrome, the “search bar” is the address bar, and you can switch it between the top and bottom of the screen.
Move the Google Search widget on Android
If the bar sits on your Android Home screen and behaves like an app widget, you can normally move it to another position or Home-screen page.
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen.
- Tap Widgets.
- Find and tap Google.
- Touch and hold the Google Search widget.
- Drag it to the position you want.
- Lift your finger to place it.
You can also move the existing bar directly: touch and hold it, then drag it to another location. While dragging, Android may show previews of your other Home screens. Drag the widget to the edge of the display and pause if you want to place it on another page.
Resize the Google Search widget
Touch and hold the widget. If an outline with draggable dots or handles appears, drag those handles to change its size. If no handles appear, that version of the widget or launcher does not support resizing.

If Google is missing from the widget list
The widget list depends on the apps installed and enabled on your phone. If Google does not appear under Widgets:
- Open the Play Store and check that the Google app is installed.
- Open your phone’s app settings and make sure the Google app is enabled.
- Restart the phone.
- Return to an empty area of the Home screen, tap Widgets, and check again.
Menu names and Home-screen behavior vary between manufacturers, launchers, and Android versions. A Samsung or Motorola phone, for example, may not present exactly the same widget menu as a Pixel.
Move the search bar on a Google Pixel
The standard search bar at the bottom of a Pixel Home screen is different from the movable Google widget. It is part of Pixel Launcher, so Pixel’s normal settings do not let you drag it to the top, another Home-screen page, or a different position.
You can customize some of its appearance and shortcuts:

- Touch and hold the Pixel search bar.
- Tap Widget settings.
- Change the available themes or shortcuts.
These options change how the bar looks or what it does; they do not move it.
Can you remove the Pixel search bar?
Pixel Launcher does not currently provide a supported option to move or remove its standard search bar. If you want the bar at the top—or want no Home-screen search bar—you need to install and use a third-party Android launcher that supports that layout.
Changing launchers affects more than the search bar. It may change Home-screen gestures, the app drawer, icon placement, widgets, and other parts of the interface. To return to Pixel Launcher, use your phone’s default-app settings and select the original Home app.
Turn off Pixel’s swipe-up search behavior
Some current Pixel software can show search and open the keyboard when you swipe up from the Home screen. This is a gesture setting, not a way to move the fixed search bar.

Move Chrome’s search bar on Android
If the bar is inside Chrome, it is technically Chrome’s address bar. Current Chrome for Android lets you place that bar at the top or bottom of the screen.
Use Chrome Settings
- Open Chrome.
- Tap More, the three-dot button.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Address bar.
- Select Top or Bottom.
Move it from the address bar
- Touch and hold the Chrome address bar.
- Tap Move address bar to the bottom or Move address bar to the top.
This setting works in portrait mode. In landscape mode, Chrome keeps the address bar at the top. If Chrome sync is enabled, the selected position may also sync to other Android devices signed in to the same Google Account.
Moving the address bar does not necessarily move every Chrome control. Navigation, tabs, Home, Gemini, or menu buttons may appear in a separate toolbar. The Address bar setting controls the address bar itself, not the complete Chrome toolbar.

Move Chrome’s search bar on an iPhone or iPad
Chrome on iOS and iPadOS also supports a top or bottom address bar:
- Open Chrome.
- Tap More.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Address bar.
- Choose Top or Bottom.
Alternatively, touch and hold the address bar and select Move address bar to bottom or Move address bar to top. As on Android, the choice applies in portrait mode; landscape mode keeps the address bar at the top.
Can you move the Google search bar on a computer?
No. On desktop Chrome, the address bar is part of the browser window rather than a movable Home-screen widget. Chrome lets you show, hide, and reorder some toolbar buttons, but it does not provide a setting to move the address bar from the top to the bottom or another edge.
Which instructions should you use?
| What you see | Can it move? | Use these steps |
|---|---|---|
| Google bar on an Android Home screen | Usually yes | Touch and hold it, then drag it; or add it from Widgets. |
| Fixed bar at the bottom of a Pixel Home screen | Not with Pixel Launcher | Use Widget settings for appearance and shortcuts, or install another launcher. |
| Bar inside Chrome on Android | Yes, top or bottom | Chrome → More → Settings → Address bar. |
| Bar inside Chrome on iPhone or iPad | Yes, top or bottom | Chrome → More → Settings → Address bar. |
| Chrome on a computer | No supported position change | Customize toolbar buttons, but not the address-bar position. |
Fixes for common search-bar advice that does not work
- “Long-press the Pixel bar and drag it anywhere.” This describes the ordinary Google widget on many Android launchers, not the fixed Pixel Launcher bar.
- “Use chrome://flags/#android-bottom-toolbar.” Earlier Chrome experiments used flags, but the supported current method is More → Settings → Address bar → Top/Bottom.
- “Change the search provider.” Choosing Google, Bing, or another search engine changes where searches are handled. It does not reposition a Home-screen widget, Pixel Launcher bar, or Chrome address bar.
- “Every Android phone has the same menu.” The launcher and Android version determine whether the Google widget is available, movable, or resizable.
FAQ
Why can’t I move the Google search bar on my Pixel?
The standard Pixel search bar is part of Pixel Launcher rather than a normal movable widget. Pixel Launcher currently lets you customize some settings but does not provide a supported option to move or remove the bar. A third-party launcher is required for a different position.

How do I move the Google widget to another Home-screen page?
Touch and hold the Google Search widget, drag it to the edge of the screen, pause until another Home-screen page appears, and then release it in the desired location.
How do I put the Chrome search bar at the bottom?
In Chrome, open More → Settings → Address bar, then select Bottom. You can also touch and hold the address bar and choose Move address bar to the bottom.
Why is the Chrome address bar still at the top?

Can I move the Google search bar on a Windows or Mac computer?
No. Desktop Chrome does not support moving its address bar to the bottom or another edge. Its toolbar customization options apply to selected buttons, not the address bar.
The Bottom Line
