Log into ChatGPT on the web
- Open https://chatgpt.com/auth/login.
- Enter your email address or choose the identity provider you used when you created the account: Google, Microsoft, or Apple.
- Complete the requested authentication and verification steps.
If you are unsure which method you used, try the original account methods available on the login page. Choosing a different method can cause a “Wrong authentication method” error or open a separate account.
Use the authentication method that created the account
Use the sign-in method originally linked to your account:

If you used Apple’s Hide My Email feature, your account may be associated with an address ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com. Sign in with the same Apple ID rather than trying another email or provider.

Reset an email-and-password account
- On the login page, enter your account email and continue to the password step.
- Select Forgot password? and follow the instructions in the reset email.
- If the email does not arrive, confirm that you entered the account email and check your spam or junk folder. Request another reset email if needed.
If you created your account with Google, Microsoft, or Apple, you may not have an OpenAI password to reset. Sign in through the original provider or reset that provider’s credentials.
Complete a verification request
ChatGPT may ask for extra verification when you use a new or unrecognized device, sign in from an unusual location, make a sensitive account change, or trigger a security check. Verification may involve a six-digit code sent to your registered email or approval in the ChatGPT mobile app.

- If a code does not arrive, check spam or junk, confirm that you are checking the account email, and request another code.
- If a code expired or was mistyped, request a new one.
- If app approval does not arrive, check that the app is signed in, notifications are enabled, and the device is online. Choose email verification if that option is offered.
- If you did not initiate the login, select No, deny access.
Official one-time-code messages may come from noreply@tm.openai.com or otp@tm1.openai.com. Never share a login code with someone who contacts you.
Log into the ChatGPT mobile app
- Install the official ChatGPT app from your device’s app store.
- Open the app and choose the same sign-in method associated with your account.
- Complete any verification request.
Access a work or school workspace
Signing into your general ChatGPT account does not automatically grant access to a particular workspace. A managed workspace may require its tenant’s SSO method, and your identity-provider email must match an invited or authorized workspace member.

- Sign in using the SSO method required by your organization.
- Check that you used the correct work or school identity-provider account.
- If the expected workspace is missing or you see an SSO error, ask the workspace administrator to verify the required SSO method, your identity-provider email, invitation, membership, and identity-provider assignment.
- Contact OpenAI Support if the account mapping remains wrong after the administrator checks access.
Fix common ChatGPT login problems
“Wrong authentication method” or an email already has a user
Return to the login page and use the method originally linked to the account. For example, use Google for an account created with Google. If you used Apple Hide My Email, the account may be associated with a private relay address, so trying a personal email or another provider can cause a mismatch.
The login page loops, Cloudflare checks repeat, or buttons do not work
- Clear your browser cache and cookies.
- Allow cookies, including third-party cookies, and JavaScript for
chatgpt.com,openai.com, andauth.openai.com. - Try a private window or clean browser profile.
- Temporarily disable VPNs, proxies, ad blockers, privacy tools, and script blockers.
- If you are on a managed network, ask your IT team whether it is blocking the verification process.
Suspicious-login warning
Clear your cookies, turn off your VPN, and try another network. If repeated attempts triggered a temporary restriction, wait up to one hour before trying again.

Generic error
Wait briefly, check OpenAI Status, and retry in a private window. If the problem continues, try another browser, device, or network, or temporarily disable extensions.
Account suspended or deactivated
A suspended or deactivated account cannot sign in normally. Review OpenAI’s notification email for account-specific next steps.

Use https://chatgpt.com/auth/login.
Why does my ChatGPT password not work?
Your account may have been created with Google, Microsoft, or Apple and may not have an OpenAI password. Try the original sign-in provider.
Why is my ChatGPT workspace missing?
Workspace membership and tenant SSO are separate from signing into a general ChatGPT account. Confirm that you used the required identity-provider account and ask your administrator to verify your invitation and membership.
What should I do if I do not receive a login code?
Check spam or junk, confirm the account email, and request another code. If an app approval does not arrive, check that the app is signed in, notifications are enabled, and the device is online, or use email verification if offered.
What if I did not start the login request?
