Microsoft 365 Business Premium is a cloud subscription for small and medium-sized businesses that combines Microsoft productivity apps with security and device-management capabilities. Microsoft describes it for organizations with 1–300 users; it is more than an office-app bundle, but the security features still need to be configured and administered. What is Microsoft 365 Business Premium?
Microsoft defines Business Premium as “an integrated solution that brings together best-in-class productivity tools, security, and device management capabilities for small to medium-sized businesses.” It is a subscription service, and Microsoft states a design range of 1–300 users. What is included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium?
Productivity and collaboration
Microsoft’s U.S. product page lists desktop, web, and mobile versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other apps, along with custom business email and 1 TB of cloud storage per user. The listed bundle also includes Teams and apps such as Loop, Clipchamp, Bookings, Planner, and Forms. Security and device management
Microsoft says Business Premium includes everything in Business Standard, plus Microsoft Defender for Business and Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1. Its security overview also describes Intune Plan 1 for device and app management, Entra ID for identity and access, and Purview capabilities for data protection and compliance. These are tools and capabilities, not a guarantee against every attack: an organization still needs to configure policies, manage devices and identities, and maintain its security settings. How does Business Premium differ from Business Standard?
Both plans provide core productivity services such as apps, email, storage, and collaboration. The practical reason to consider Premium is its additional security and management layer. Microsoft specifically identifies Defender for Business and Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 as Premium additions to Standard; the broader Premium service capabilities also address device management, identity and access, and information protection. Who should consider Business Premium?
It is most relevant to a business that wants Microsoft’s productivity services and also needs centralized endpoint protection, phishing and email defenses, device management, identity controls, or information-protection capabilities in the same subscription. If the business mainly needs apps, email, and collaboration, compare Standard’s features and price first. The right choice depends on the protections and administrative controls the organization will actually configure and use.
