To update an Edge security baseline created in May 2023 or later, open its profile in Intune and start a version update. Intune creates a separate profile based on the latest available baseline; you choose whether to carry over the old profile’s customizations or discard them. A profile created before May 2023 cannot be upgraded directly and must be recreated in the newer format.

As of October 7, 2026, Microsoft lists the Microsoft Edge v139 baseline (April 2026) in Intune. That is the security-baseline template version, not the Edge browser version. Check Intune’s baseline list before starting in case Microsoft has since released a newer template.

Check which update path your profile needs

The format change in May 2023 determines whether you can use Intune’s side-by-side version update or need to recreate the profile. Use the profile’s creation date to choose the path:

Existing profile Update method How customizations are handled
Created in May 2023 or later Start a version update; Intune creates a separate instance from the latest available baseline. Choose to keep the original profile’s setting customizations or discard them.
Created before May 2023 Create a new profile in the current format and configure its settings from the old profile. Direct upgrade is not supported. Record and rebuild required deviations in the new profile; the old profile’s customizations are not automatically migrated.

Microsoft says existing baseline profiles do not automatically update when a new version is released. An older profile’s settings configuration becomes read-only, although its metadata and assignments remain editable. See Microsoft’s Intune security baseline overview and profile management guidance.

Update a profile created in May 2023 or later

Start the version update

  1. In the Microsoft Intune admin center, go to Endpoint security > Security baselines.
  2. Select the Microsoft Edge baseline type, then open the profile you want to update.
  3. Start the option to update the profile to the latest version of that baseline. Portal labels can change, so follow the current version-update action shown for the selected profile.

Intune creates a side-by-side copy; it does not silently replace the existing profile. You can retain the old profile while reviewing the new instance.

Choose how to handle customizations

  • Keep customizations: Intune applies the original profile’s setting customizations to the new baseline template. Review the resulting settings rather than assuming that every prior deviation is still appropriate.
  • Discard customizations: Intune creates the new instance with the template’s defaults and does not automatically apply the old profile’s customizations. Use this only if you intend to re-evaluate and, where needed, reapply deviations.

Name the new instance after making this choice. Microsoft documents these update and customization options in its security baseline profile management guidance.

Recreate a profile made before May 2023

Profiles predating the May 2023 format change cannot use the direct version-update path. Create a profile in the current Edge baseline format, then configure its settings based on the old profile. Before rebuilding, document the old profile’s custom settings and any required exceptions; otherwise, recreating it can omit settings your organization deliberately changed. Keep the old profile available during review, then manage assignments according to your change-control process.

Review the new baseline before assigning it broadly

Microsoft notes that the Edge v139 baseline includes new settings, changed defaults, and retired settings. Compare the versioned Microsoft Edge security baseline settings reference with the configuration your organization actually uses. The following are examples from the v139 reference, not a complete change log:

  • Allow users to proceed from the HTTPS warning page: Disabled.
  • Enable Application Bound Encryption: Enabled.
  • Enable site isolation for every site: Enabled.
  • Enable browser legacy extension point blocking: Enabled.
  • Dynamic Code Settings: Enabled, with the device setting preventing the browser process from creating dynamic code.

Validate the new profile against your requirements and test its effect on a pilot group before expanding assignment. Microsoft recommends reviewing the baseline, particularly when the existing profile has customizations; it does not prescribe a universal pilot size or duration. For additional information about current baseline settings, Microsoft points administrators to the Security Compliance Toolkit, including versions that may not be offered in Intune. Microsoft’s review recommendation appears in What’s new in Microsoft Intune.

Keep the baseline version separate from the browser version

“Edge v139 baseline” identifies the security configuration template, not the required Edge browser release. At the October 7, 2026 research timestamp, Microsoft’s Stable release notes listed Edge Stable 154.0.4258.62 on October 5, 2026. The browser release and the baseline template have separate version numbers and release schedules; do not infer a browser update requirement from the baseline number. Check the Microsoft Edge Stable Channel release notes for browser releases and Intune’s baseline list for available templates.

Confirm operating-system support separately

Microsoft’s Intune security baseline management guidance lists Windows 11 and Windows 10 version 1809 and later as within scope. Intune feature eligibility does not mean that every listed operating system remains in servicing support: Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025. Prioritize supported Windows releases when planning deployment. See Microsoft’s baseline management guidance for applicability details.
