To turn on AutoMix on iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Music > Song Transitions and select AutoMix. You need an Apple Music subscription, and the feature applies to music from the Apple Music catalog. You can also switch AutoMix on or off from the playback queue while music is playing.

Apple’s iPhone guide says AutoMix is available with iOS 26 or later when listening to Apple Music catalog content. Apple describes it as a way to transition between songs “like a DJ,” but it is an automatic playback feature, not a set of manual DJ controls. Availability can also vary by device, region, and catalog content. See Apple’s iPhone guide to song transitions.
Toggle AutoMix from the Up Next queue
To change the setting without leaving playback:

Open the MiniPlayer while a song is playing.

Tap Up Next.

Use the AutoMix control to turn it on or off.
Apple documents this queue control in its instructions for turning AutoMix or Crossfade on or off. The available controls and setup paths can differ by platform, so check the Music settings on your device.
What AutoMix changes between songs
AutoMix chooses a transition based on the music. Depending on the songs, it may remove silence, use a basic crossfade, or make a more involved transition. You do not choose a fixed transition duration for AutoMix, and it does not promise an audible DJ-style mix between every pair of tracks.

Some songs may play without a dynamic transition. Apple lists sequential album playback, incompatible genres or tempos, uploaded library tracks, and iTunes Store purchases or downloads among the cases where transitions may not occur. Its iPhone guide also notes that albums and some genres can play without transitions.
Troubleshoot when AutoMix does not transition
Check these factors in order; any one of them can explain why a transition is absent or subtle.

Confirm the source and subscription. AutoMix requires an Apple Music subscription and works with catalog content. An uploaded library track or an iTunes Store purchase or download may not receive a dynamic transition.

Check how the album is playing. Sequential album playback may not transition between tracks. Try a playlist or a different sequence of catalog songs.

Consider the songs themselves. Apple says transitions may not happen when genres or tempos are incompatible. AutoMix selects transitions according to the music rather than forcing one between every adjacent pair.

Check audio quality. AutoMix and Crossfade are unavailable when Hi-Res Lossless is enabled. In iPhone audio-quality settings, choose Lossless or another available setting instead.

Verify the device and app are supported. Apple lists Apple silicon Mac as the Mac requirement and excludes Intel-based Macs, Apple TV, Apple Watch, HomePod, Android, and Apple Music for Windows. If the setting is missing, confirm your device, software version, region, and Music app are eligible.

Both modes are unavailable with Hi-Res Lossless enabled, according to Apple’s iPhone guide. Choose Crossfade under Song Transitions when you want a predictable fade and control over its duration; choose AutoMix when you want Music to select a transition to suit the songs.
