Follow the prompts to start the transfer. It is a one-time import, not ongoing syncing; to get new messages, set up forwarding with the other provider or access that mailbox in the Gmail mobile app.
Import existing email into Gmail on a computer

Sign in to Gmail on a computer.

Select the gear icon, then See all settings.

Open the Accounts and Import tab.

Under Import mail and contacts, select the import option and follow the prompts to connect the other account and start the import.
Google describes this as a one-time transfer of messages. It does not keep checking the other account for new mail, and it does not copy that account’s folders or labels. The described account-connection workflow requires the source account to support POP. See Google’s instructions for adding another email account on a computer.
Choose a separate method for new messages
An import moves existing mail; it is not a way to keep two inboxes synchronized. Choose an ongoing-access option based on where you want to read new messages.

Forwarding and mailbox access are different: forwarding sends new messages to Gmail, while using an app or client lets you view the other account as a separate mailbox. See Google’s guidance on Gmail features for other email accounts.
What the Gmail POP and Gmailify change means
Google says Gmail’s web feature for checking third-party accounts with POP and Gmailify will be removed in January 2027. Its guidance says the feature stopped accepting new users after the first quarter of 2026; existing users can continue using it until January 2027. Messages already synced to Gmail will remain there. Google separately says one-time third-party mail imports on Gmail web remain available. The change affects continuous web fetching, not the one-time import described above. Adding an account on a computer is also distinct from importing old messages. Google says Gmail can add up to five email addresses, provided they support secure connections. Google’s computer guidance says Outlook cannot be added to Gmail there because Microsoft requires modern authentication for non-Microsoft email users; it points users toward the Gmail app for that case. Check Google’s account-addition instructions for the current options.

Confirm the source account works. Check that you can sign in and that the account is active; verify the credentials entered in Gmail.

Check POP availability and settings. The source must support POP for the described connection workflow. Confirm the exact POP server, port, and secure-connection settings with the email provider; these values vary by service.

Look beyond the Inbox. Search Gmail for the messages in case they arrived under another label or location, and check the source account’s folders and POP behavior if the transfer appears incomplete.

Review deletion settings carefully. Do not assume an import automatically deletes messages from the original account. If you enable POP in another Gmail account, Google recommends keeping a copy in that account.
