Google has evolved Find My Device into Find Hub, a broader Android service for locating belongings, devices, family and friends. Google announced the change on May 13, 2025, but did not announce a shutdown date for the old name or a deadline to migrate. So “retiring Find My Device” describes the branding transition—not a confirmed service closure.
Is Google shutting down Find My Device?
Google’s announcement describes Find Hub as the “evolution” of Find My Device. It establishes a new name and broader scope, but does not say that the former service is closing on a particular date or provide a migration schedule. Google’s announcement is Locate your lost belongings in more ways with Find Hub on Android.
That distinction matters if you still see Find My Device on your phone: the cited announcement is not a notice that tracking will stop or that users must replace their accounts or devices by a stated deadline. Google’s public wording supports calling Find Hub the successor identity, not claiming a separately confirmed shutdown.
What Find Hub lets you find
Find Hub extends beyond the familiar task of locating an Android phone. Google presents it as a way to locate belongings, devices, family and friends, with compatible tracker tags and partner integrations for physical items. You do not need to buy a tag for every Find Hub use: tags are an optional way to track belongings such as keys or luggage.

In its May 2025 announcement, Google named luggage finding, Mokobara and Peak integrations, Disney-themed Pixbee Bluetooth tags, and UWB-enabled tags, with moto tag as an early example. That announcement is a snapshot, not a complete or guaranteed-current list of compatible products. Check a product’s Find Hub support and availability in your market before buying.
How Find Hub can help find lost luggage
For a compatible tracker tag or network accessory attached to luggage, Find Hub can create a location link that you submit through a participating airline’s app or website. This is an opt-in handoff: you choose to share the item’s location to help with baggage recovery. Google says the feature is integrated with SITA’s WorldTracer and Reunitus’s NetTracer, systems it describes as used in airline baggage tracing.

When Google announced the feature on March 3, 2026, it said more than 10 major global airlines accepted Find Hub locations. Named carriers included Ajet, Air India, China Airlines, Lufthansa Group airlines (Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Swiss International Airlines), Saudia Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines and Turkish Airlines; Google said Qantas was expected to join in the near future. Participation can change, so check the airline’s current app or website rather than treating that launch list as current coverage. See Google’s Help find your lost luggage with Google’s Find Hub for its announcement details.
Do you need a tracker tag?
A physical tracker tag is useful when you want to locate an item that cannot report its own location, such as a suitcase, wallet or key ring. It is not a requirement for using Find Hub to locate a phone or use other supported features. Tags are not interchangeable in every respect: compatibility, nearby finding and precision-finding capabilities depend on the tag and the Android device.

When comparing tags, check Android compatibility, whether the tag supports UWB precision finding or only Bluetooth-based finding, its battery type and expected life, sharing options, and current local availability. Google’s partner announcements do not provide a complete side-by-side comparison across brands.
Google Pixel Tag compatibility and availability

Google described the Find Hub network as connecting to more than one billion Android devices. That is Google’s description of its crowdsourced network, not an independently audited count. Google announced November 11, 2026, as Pixel Tag’s retail date; as of October 8, 2026, that date was still in the future. In its September 1, 2026, Android Drop announcement, Google said users would soon be able to ask Gemini to remember where they left an untagged item—such as a passport or spare key—optionally attach a photo, and retrieve the saved location in Find Hub. Google specified Android 16 or newer and countries where both Gemini and Find Hub are supported. The announcement described the feature as coming soon, not as a completed rollout. Details are in September Android Drop: Remember where you put things, ease motion sickness, and more.
What to do if you still use Find My Device
There is no migration deadline in Google’s cited transition announcement. If you want to use the broader Find Hub features, look for Find Hub on your Android device and check Google’s current guidance for your device and region. If your immediate goal is tracking a physical item, confirm that its tag supports Find Hub and that any feature you need—especially UWB precision finding—is supported by both the tag and your phone.
