If Google Photos sharing is not working, first identify which sharing method failed: a direct share, a shared album, an album link, or Partner Sharing. Each works differently, so the right check depends on the route. Use the steps below to narrow down the problem without assuming every failure has the same cause.
1. Identify which Google Photos sharing method failed
Check what you were trying to do and what the recipient sees. Google Photos offers several distinct ways to share:

2. Retry the direct-share flow
On a computer, open photos.google.com, sign in, select a photo or video, choose Share, then select a person under Send in Google Photos. This is Google’s documented computer workflow; labels may vary by platform. Google Photos Help
3. Check whether the conversation is too large
Google Photos Help documents a limit of 20,000 photos in a conversation; the page does not state a publication year for that limit. If you are sharing a collection at or above that scale, use a shared album or album link instead. Google Photos Help

4. Use a shared album for a collection
If the goal is to share many items or keep a collection available, create an album, add the photos or videos, and share the album with the intended people. Check the collaboration settings if recipients should contribute: whether they can add items depends on those settings. Google Photos Help
5. Reset a link that no longer works
If an album link is stale or you want to replace it, the album owner can turn link sharing off and then back on. Send the newly generated link to the intended recipients. A shared link is not private to the people you individually invited: anyone who has the URL may be able to open the album. Google Photos Help

6. Check the invited account and accept the Partner Sharing invitation
Partner Sharing invitations are for a Google Account. The recipient should use the account that received the invitation and accept it in Google Photos under Updates. If the invitation is not showing, verify that the recipient is signed into the invited account before treating it as a delivery failure. Google Photos Help
7. Check backup and Partner Sharing filters
Partner Sharing sends selected photos as they are backed up. If expected photos are missing, check the sharing start date and any selected people filter. Face-group filtering can misidentify people, and people-based sharing is not available in all regions. Google Photos Help

8. Confirm who owns the album
Only the album owner can remove collaborators or change link-sharing settings. If you can view an album but cannot change who has access, ask its owner to make the change. Google Photos Help
9. Reset album access when privacy is the concern
To stop future access, the owner can remove members and disable link sharing. This does not erase copies or downloads recipients already made; stopping album sharing cannot retrieve those. Google Photos Help

If none of these checks resolves it
Record the exact error, the device and operating system, whether you used the app or photos.google.com, and which sharing route failed. Those details distinguish an account or invitation issue from an album-permission or link problem. Google’s help instructions describe the workflows and constraints, but do not establish one universal cause for all sharing failures.
