“Bitdefender Agent” can mean a business-managed endpoint security agent or Bitdefender software installed by a home user. First identify the product and operating system: managed endpoints are removed through GravityZone or the platform-specific local procedure, while consumer products use Bitdefender’s product-specific uninstall instructions. Removing a device from Bitdefender Central alone does not uninstall its software.
First identify which Bitdefender software you have
Check the product name on the computer and determine whether it is managed by an employer or IT administrator. The word “agent” is often used for business endpoint software, but a consumer may use it informally for a Bitdefender app. The distinction matters because the removal steps differ.
- Work or school computer managed by an organization: ask the administrator whether it is enrolled in GravityZone. The administrator can remove a managed agent centrally, or follow Bitdefender’s platform-specific local instructions.
- Personal Windows computer: use the removal utility listed for the exact Bitdefender product and generation.
- Personal Mac: use the Bitdefender Uninstaller included with the installation.
Bitdefender maintains separate instructions for managed security agents and consumer product uninstall tools.
Remove a managed Bitdefender agent
Have an administrator remove it through GravityZone
If the computer is managed through GravityZone Control Center, an administrator can create an Uninstall agent task, select the endpoints, and choose whether quarantined files should be retained or deleted. If you are an end user, contact your organization’s IT team; you may not have permission to remove the agent yourself.

Use the local procedure for the endpoint’s operating system
Bitdefender also documents local removal instructions for Windows, Linux, and Mac. On Windows, a policy password may be required. On Linux, the procedure uses the installed package or Bitdefender’s uninstall script. On Mac, use Endpoint Security for Mac Uninstaller. Follow the instructions for the installed agent and platform in Bitdefender’s security agent uninstall guide; do not substitute consumer-product removal instructions.
Uninstall a consumer Bitdefender product on Windows
Open Bitdefender’s Uninstall Tools for Bitdefender Products page and choose the entry matching the product name and generation installed on your PC. The available utility depends on the product; a generic remover or a tool for a different Bitdefender version may not be appropriate.

- Identify the Bitdefender product installed on the Windows computer.
- On the official uninstall-tools page, select the matching product or generation and follow its download and removal instructions.
- Let the utility finish and follow any restart prompt it provides.
If Bitdefender removal fails on Windows
For a removal tool that finishes with errors, hangs, or will not start, Bitdefender’s recovery instructions specify running the tool in Windows Safe Mode. After it completes, restart into normal Windows. Follow the current steps on Fix Bitdefender Removal Has Finished With Errors rather than repeatedly launching a tool that is failing in normal mode.
Uninstall a consumer Bitdefender product on Mac
- Open Applications, then open the Bitdefender folder.
- Run Bitdefender Uninstaller.
- Select the product you want to remove. If you also want to remove the VPN, select its checkbox.
- Enter your Mac administrator credentials if prompted, then complete the uninstaller’s instructions.

If the Mac uninstaller is missing or removal fails
Bitdefender has separate troubleshooting instructions for uninstall errors. Its recovery-based method applies to macOS Catalina 10.15 and older; the article directs users on Big Sur 11.5 and later to its first method instead. If your goal is to free a subscription slot or sign Bitdefender apps out of a device, remove the device from your Bitdefender Central account using the steps in Bitdefender’s Central device-removal guide. This account action does not remove the software installed on the computer. Uninstall the local product separately if you want it gone from that device.
