Apple announced it on September 9, 2026, with preorders scheduled to begin October 16 and availability scheduled to start October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions. Apple says 28 additional markets follow on October 30. Those dates are still upcoming as of October 8, 2026.
When does Apple’s foldable iPhone come out?
Apple’s announced schedule is:
- Preorders: Friday, October 16, 2026, at 5 a.m. Pacific Time in more than 70 countries and regions.
- First availability: Friday, October 23, 2026.
- Additional markets: 28 other countries and regions beginning Friday, October 30, 2026.
These are scheduled dates announced by Apple, not completed sales events as of October 8. Availability may differ by country or region. Apple’s announcement has the launch details.
How much will the iPhone Duo cost?
Apple’s September 9 announcement does not state the iPhone Duo’s starting price. Do not treat a rumored price as confirmed; check Apple’s local store for current pricing when sales open, since prices can vary by country.
Apple did announce two U.S. accessory prices: the iPhone Duo Case is $79, and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand is $129. Apple scheduled both to be available to order on October 16. Accessory prices and availability may vary outside the United States.

What are the iPhone Duo specs and features?
Two displays in a book-style design
iPhone Duo opens like a book, with a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display and a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display. Apple’s measurements are based on standard rectangular screen dimensions; the actual viewable area is smaller. Apple says both displays share an aspect ratio and support ProMotion, Always On, and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.
The inner display has a nano-texture finish that Apple says reduces glare and makes the crease less visible. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements.

A20 Pro, iOS 27.1, and multitasking
Apple says the phone uses its A20 Pro chip, a custom vapor chamber, and a dual-battery architecture. It ships with iOS 27.1. Apple says iOS adapts to the folded or open form and adds Split View, letting two apps appear side by side on iPhone, as well as two windows of one app. Apple names Netflix, Zoom, and Slack as apps using the design; it has not established that every third-party app is optimized for the larger display.
Apple Pencil with USB-C support is scheduled to arrive later in 2026, so it should not be assumed to work at launch. Apple says the feature will support note-taking, sketching, and document markup.

Colors and accessories
Apple lists two colors: star white and night sky. The announced matching accessories are the iPhone Duo Case and iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand. Confirm that any case or folio listing explicitly names iPhone Duo; the announcement does not establish third-party fit or current retailer availability.
Is Apple’s foldable iPhone durable?
Apple says iPhone Duo uses grade 5 titanium, Ceramic Shield on the back, and Ceramic Shield 2 on the front. Apple claims the front has three times better scratch resistance than the prior generation. Apple also describes the hinge and inner-display protection as part of the design, but no independent long-term fold testing is established here.

Apple lists an IP68 rating under IEC 60529. Its stated rating is based on controlled laboratory testing at a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes. Apple cautions that water resistance is not permanent, may decrease through normal wear, and that liquid damage is not covered by warranty. An IP rating is not a reason to deliberately expose the phone to water.

Apple reports up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display, up to 44 hours using the outer display, and up to 24 hours of typical use when both displays are used equally. These are Apple figures from tests with preproduction units and software in August 2026, not independent measurements. Apple says actual results vary with use, configuration, network, signal, and other factors.

Apple says wired charging can reach 50 percent in around 20 minutes, and wireless charging can reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes with a MagSafe or Qi2 charger. These are also qualified manufacturer test claims: the results depend on the charger, adapter, cable, and test conditions described in Apple’s footnotes, rather than being a guaranteed charge time for every setup.
What to check before choosing iPhone Duo
Because iPhone Duo is newly announced, a useful comparison with another foldable or a conventional iPhone depends on current, documented details—not the product category alone. Check:
- Whether the inner and outer display sizes and aspect ratio suit the apps you use.
- Whether your essential apps support the larger screen and Split View.
- Battery claims and test methods, rather than comparing headline hours measured under different conditions.
- Charging compatibility and the cost of any case, folio, charger, or protection plan you want.
- Durability evidence and warranty exclusions, particularly for liquid damage.
- Local launch timing, availability, and the device’s current price.
The Associated Press reported CCS Insight chief analyst Ben Wood’s estimate that foldables account for less than 5 percent of the overall smartphone market. That is attributed analyst commentary, not a primary market dataset. AP also reported Forrester analyst Dipanjan Chatterjee’s view that Apple entered after the category had time to work out kinks; that is an analyst interpretation, not proof of the device’s durability or success. The Associated Press report provides that launch context.
