To put Google Search on your Windows 11 desktop, open the Google page in Chrome, then select More > Cast, save, and share > Create shortcut. Name the shortcut if you want, then select Create. The icon opens that Google page; it is different from pinning Chrome itself to the taskbar or adding a shortcut inside Chrome.
Create a desktop shortcut to Google Search
- Open Chrome and go to the Google page you want the icon to open, such as Google Search.
- Select the three-dot More menu in the upper-right corner.
- Select Cast, save, and share, then Create shortcut.
- Keep the suggested name or enter a different one in the dialog.
- Select Create. The shortcut is for the page you opened.
Google’s Chrome Help describes creating shortcuts to favorite websites on a computer, but does not specify a Windows 11 build or Chrome version for these steps. Choose the right kind of Google shortcut
“Add Google to desktop” can mean a few different things. Use the option that matches where you want the icon and what you want it to open.

If you mean an installed Chrome web app
A web app is not the same as an ordinary website shortcut. To add a shortcut for an app that is already installed, enter chrome://apps in Chrome’s address bar, right-click the app, select Create shortcut, choose the desktop or other location offered, and select Create. If the site has not yet been installed as an app, open it in Chrome and look in More > Cast, save, and share > Install page as app, or use the install icon if Chrome shows one. The site must offer the relevant install option. After installation, use the app shortcut steps above.
If you mean Chrome on the taskbar
Pinning Chrome is useful for quick browser access, but it does not create a shortcut directly to Google Search. Either right-click Chrome’s running taskbar icon or find Chrome in Start and right-click it; then select Pin to taskbar. If the taskbar has no room, remove an existing pinned app first. If you mean a shortcut on Chrome’s New Tab page
Open a new tab and select Customize Chrome. Under Shortcuts, choose My shortcuts to pick sites, or Most visited sites to show frequently visited sites. You can also edit or remove a site shortcut or hide shortcuts altogether. These tiles appear inside Chrome’s New Tab page, not on the Windows desktop.
