To use Google’s online calculator, enter an equation in Google Search or search for Calculator. For other tasks, search for Unit converter, tip calculator, or Color Picker, or enter a function or geometry formula directly. Google Search Help documents these tools and their limits in its calculator guidance.
Do a quick calculation in Google Search
- Open Google Search.
- Type an equation in the search box, such as
15*79, and submit it. Google’s calculator help and Search tips describe entering calculations directly. - Read the result shown in Search. If you want a calculator interface, search for Calculator.
Google documents support for arithmetic, functions, physical constants, and base conversion. You can enter a suitable expression directly rather than first opening a separate calculator page.
Calculate a tip and split a bill
- Search for tip calculator.
- Use the controls that appear to choose a tip and the number of people sharing the bill.
- Check the displayed tip and split total before settling the bill.
Google’s Search tips page describes using Search to calculate a preferred tip and divide the total.
Convert units
Enter a conversion directly in Search, or search for Unit converter to open the conversion tool. Google lists these categories in its help documentation:

Graph a function
- Enter a function in Search.
- To plot more than one function, separate the formulas with commas.
- Pan or zoom to explore the graph and inspect the region you need.
Google documents graphing for trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Three-dimensional graphs require a desktop browser that supports WebGL. A graph may not plot if it has too many asymptotes, too many transitions between defined and undefined regions, or too many points to represent a highly volatile function. Numerical limits can also prevent further panning or zooming; try moving to a different region. These limitations and controls are described in Google Search Help.
Solve a geometry formula
- Search for the formula or problem, such as Area of a circle.
- Enter the known values in the calculator.
- Choose the unknown quantity beside Solve for.
Google lists geometry tools for shapes including polygons, triangles, quadrilaterals, prisms, pyramids, curved two- and three-dimensional shapes, and Platonic solids. Supported topics include area, circumference, perimeter, surface area, volume, the Pythagorean theorem, hypotenuse, and the laws of sines and cosines. The available options are documented in Google’s calculator help.

Convert a color code
- Search for a color code or for Color Picker.
- Enter a supported code format: Hex, RGB, or Pantone.
- Read the converted values, which can include Hex, RGB, HSV, HSL, and CMYK.
Google warns that Color Picker is not supported in every browser. If it does not appear, browser compatibility may be the cause; see Google’s Color Picker guidance.

- Check whether the expression has a result. Division by zero, for example, has no value, so Search may not show a calculator for it.
- Try an equals sign. For an expression that should be calculable but does not surface the feature, add
=to the beginning or end of the query. Google’s stated troubleshooting advice is: “If it still isn’t showing up, try adding=to the beginning or end of your search.” - For a graphing problem, change the view. Pan or zoom to another region if Google reports plotting or navigation limitations.
