Why it appeared online instead of on CBS
CBS News reported that legal guidance raised the possibility that airing the interview on broadcast television could trigger equal-time obligations for other candidates. CBS characterized the issue as a legal concern and said the show chose to publish the interview on YouTube with on-air promotion. Colbert, by contrast, said he had been told the interview could not air on the broadcast.
Those are the network’s and Colbert’s attributed accounts of the decision. The situation concerned broadcast distribution and potential equal-time obligations; it was not an FCC ban on the online video. The official YouTube publication is the confirmed route for this specific interview, and the available sources do not establish that it aired as a CBS broadcast episode. CBS News’ report and FCC Commissioner Anna M. Gomez’s February 17, 2026 statement provide further context.
Is The Late Show still airing?
No. Paramount announced on July 17, 2025, that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would end after the 2025–26 broadcast season. The interview’s online video remains the specific viewing route identified here; this article does not establish its ongoing availability in every region. Paramount’s announcement gives the series-ending details.
