Apple sued YouTube personality Jon Prosser and Michael Ramacciotti over alleged access to and disclosure of confidential information about unreleased iOS 26 features. Apple’s complaint makes allegations, not findings of liability. Prosser later denied key parts of Apple’s account, and the latest located status report, filed in August 2026, said discovery was still underway.
Why did Apple sue Jon Prosser?
Apple’s July 17, 2025 complaint alleges trade-secret misappropriation involving unreleased iOS 26 features and a development iPhone associated with Apple employee Ethan Lipnik. The case is about alleged access to and disclosure of confidential development information; it is not a general lawsuit seeking to prohibit reporting Apple rumors. The complaint’s account is disputed, and the court has not thereby established that Prosser or Ramacciotti misappropriated trade secrets. Apple’s complaint
What did Prosser allegedly leak?
The complaint concerns information about unreleased iOS 26 features that Apple says was obtained through access to a development iPhone. Apple alleges the device was associated with Lipnik. Prosser’s answer disputes important parts of that account, including that he knew the device belonged to Lipnik and whether the information at issue qualified as trade secrets. Those positions belong to the parties; they are not court findings. Apple’s complaint Coverage of Prosser’s answer

- June 2026: Apple and Prosser jointly asked to set aside the default. Apple said it did not oppose the request after Prosser agreed to provide discovery and sit for a deposition. Default and joint request coverage
- July 2, 2026: Prosser filed an answer, admitting some events while disputing important elements of Apple’s account. Answer coverage
- August 2026: Apple reported that Prosser had provided documents and communications and sat for a deposition on June 16, but Apple still saw deficiencies in his production. The same report said Ramacciotti agreed to supplement interrogatory responses and attend a second deposition in September. August status report coverage
Did Jon Prosser respond to Apple’s lawsuit?
Yes. After the clerk entered default in October 2025, Prosser and Apple jointly sought to set it aside in June 2026. Prosser then filed an answer on July 2, 2026, contesting key parts of Apple’s allegations. The answer gives him an opportunity to dispute the complaint; it does not resolve the dispute.
