That is the historical announcement, not the current model description: Google’s current help page says Slides and Vids use Gemini 3 Pro image for image generation and editing. To generate an image in Slides now, use Insert → Help me visualize → Image; access requires an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plan.
What Google announced for Slides in March 2025
On March 31, 2025, Google announced a collection of Slides design features. The announcement named Imagen 3 for generating images and described a new right-side design sidebar intended to make visual tools easier to access. It also covered new templates, editable building blocks such as key stats, agendas and quotes, an expanded stock library with stock and web images and GIFs, and proportional scaling for groups of slide objects or text. Google’s Workspace announcement and its March 31 product post provide the original context.
The announcement also mentioned background removal as already available at that time and described background extension as coming soon. Those statements describe the status reported in March 2025; they should not be read as a current feature-availability guide.
Which image-generation model does Slides use now?
Google’s current help documentation, accessed October 8, 2026, identifies Gemini 3 Pro image as the model available for generating and editing images in Slides and Vids. Imagen 3 is the model named in Google’s March 2025 announcement. The two model names refer to different points in the product timeline, so the 2025 headline should not be taken to mean Imagen 3 is still the model documented for the feature today. How to generate an image in Google Slides
Google documents this workflow for Slides on a computer. The feature requires an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plan; the help page does not list every qualifying plan.
- Open a presentation in Google Slides on a computer.
- Select Insert → Help me visualize → Image.
- Enter a prompt in the right-side panel.
- Preview a generated result and insert the image into the presentation.
What you can generate or edit
Google’s current documentation describes several distinct uses. The standard image workflow creates a standalone image to insert; editing starts with an existing image and uses a prompt to produce a replacement. Separate beta options can create an image of a slide or an infographic based on presentation content.

- Generate an image: Describe the visual you want in the right panel, preview a result and insert it.
- Edit an existing image: Prompt for a change and replace the original with the generated result.
- Create an image of a slide or an infographic: These are documented as beta options based on presentation content. Google cautions that they may make mistakes.
Google says generated images are for use only within Slides and Vids and may not represent real-world situations. Treat them as presentation visuals, not as verified depictions of actual people, places or events.
Plan eligibility and language availability
Being able to open Slides does not by itself establish access to image generation: Google says an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan is required. The reviewed help page does not enumerate all qualifying plans, so check the current Google documentation or your account’s available controls to confirm eligibility.

Google documents image generation in 28 languages. Its listed examples include English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean and Arabic; Hindi is not included in the listed language set. Consult the help page for the full list rather than inferring support for an unlisted language.

The 2025 post described a product update, not a measured performance comparison.
