The best Google Keep alternative depends on what Keep is not doing for you. Choose Notion for structured notes and shared workspaces, Obsidian for linked notes in a local-first knowledge base, Microsoft OneNote for notebook pages and handwriting, or Todoist when managing tasks matters more than building a note archive. If you mainly need fast, simple capture, first check whether Keep already covers your needs: Google documents notes, lists, labels, reminders, and collaboration in its Keep help guide.
Choose by workflow, not by feature count
These apps are not interchangeable versions of Keep. A quick note, a searchable body of linked research, a handwritten page, and a task with a deadline are different jobs. Start with the one that causes friction in your current setup.
- Quick capture: If you want to jot down a thought or list and find it later, Keep may still be sufficient.
- Structured information: If notes need databases, pages, or a shared workspace, evaluate Notion.
- Connected personal knowledge: If you want notes linked to one another and a local-first knowledge base, consider Obsidian.
- Handwritten material: If you write or draw with a stylus or finger, consider OneNote.
- Task execution: If lists, task organization, and deadlines are the center of your workflow, evaluate Todoist.
The Digital Project Manager’s comparison, updated September 10, 2026, also discusses Apple Notes, Zoho Notebook, Simplenote, Standard Notes, Bear, Notesnook, and UpNote. Those may be worth investigating for more specific preferences, but the official evidence available here does not establish their current feature limits or platform details. See the comparison.
Best alternatives to evaluate
| Your priority | App to evaluate | Why it may fit | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Structured notes and a shared workspace | Notion | It is a broader workspace candidate for organizing information beyond quick notes. | Check the current plan’s limits and pricing against your needs on Notion’s official pricing page. |
| Linked notes and a local-first knowledge base | Obsidian | It is suited to connected notes and knowledge-graph-style organization. | Local storage and sync are separate considerations; Obsidian’s pricing page lists Sync. |
| Notebook-style pages, handwriting, or drawings | Microsoft OneNote | Microsoft documents handwriting and drawing with a stylus or finger. | Try it on the devices you actually use and check current sync behavior. See Microsoft’s OneNote page. |
| Task-centered lists and organization | Todoist | It is a task-management product with plan tiers. | Check the current plans on Todoist’s official pricing page. Treat it as task-centered rather than as a complete rich-note archive. |
When Notion is the better fit
Choose Notion if a pile of independent notes is no longer enough and you want information organized into a more structured workspace. It is the clearest candidate here for readers who need structured notes, databases, or shared work. That added structure is useful when you will maintain it; it may be unnecessary overhead if your main habit is capturing small reminders quickly.

When Obsidian is the better fit
Consider Obsidian if your notes are part of a connected body of knowledge: for example, research notes that refer to one another rather than living as isolated cards. It is a local-first option, so think separately about where the notes are stored and how you want them synchronized between devices.

Obsidian’s official pricing page lists Sync. Do not assume that local storage automatically means your chosen multi-device sync setup is already configured; verify the arrangement you intend to use.
When OneNote is the better fit
OneNote is a strong candidate if your notes resemble pages in a notebook, especially when you want to handwrite or draw. Microsoft says the app supports handwriting and drawing with a stylus or finger on its OneNote product page.

Before choosing it, test the app on your own devices and confirm that its current sync behavior works for you. A cross-platform listing alone does not answer whether your specific device combination and account setup will feel seamless.
When Todoist is the better fit
Choose Todoist when your main problem is keeping track of work to do, not preserving a flexible archive of rich notes. Its official pricing page describes a task-management product with plan tiers. That makes it a natural candidate for task-first lists, but not a like-for-like replacement for every kind of note you may keep in Keep.

Quick Recap
How to decide before moving your notes
- List the jobs Keep currently handles. Separate quick capture, recurring task tracking, reminders, shared notes, handwriting, and reference material. A replacement may need to cover only some of them.
- Pick a primary workflow. Use the shortlist above to choose a candidate based on whether structure, linked notes, handwriting, or task execution is your priority.
- Check your devices and sync needs. Confirm that the app supports the devices you use and that its current sync approach fits your expectations. For Obsidian in particular, consider storage and sync separately.
- Review the current plan and restrictions. Consult the official plan pages for Notion, Obsidian, and Todoist before depending on particular limits or paid features. Plan names, availability, and terms can change.
- Check export and migration before committing. Confirm how your notes, attachments, and useful metadata can be exported or moved, and test the process on a small set first. The pages cited here do not establish every app’s migration details, so do not assume a complete transfer will preserve everything.
- Run a small trial on real work. Try a representative note, list, reminder, or shared item on your normal devices. Keep access to the original notes until you have confirmed the new setup works for your needs.
What to check in a Keep replacement
- Capture speed: Can you create a note or task quickly when you need to?
- Organization: Does it offer the structure you want—simple cards and tags, notebook pages, databases, or links between notes?
- Tasks and reminders: Verify the specific reminders or task behaviors you rely on; do not infer them from an app’s general category.
- Collaboration: If you share notes, confirm that the relevant plan and sharing workflow support your use.
- Media and handwriting: Check support for the formats and input methods you actually use.
- Storage, sync, and access: Understand whether your notes are local, cloud-synced, or dependent on a separate sync feature.
- Export and portability: Confirm what can be exported and whether the information you care about remains usable outside the app.
- Cost and plan limits: Verify current official pricing and restrictions just before adopting an app.
