Antigravity is not automatically safe or unsafe for private files and accounts. Its local risk depends on your operating system, the permission system and rules in effect, and which files, terminal commands, browser actions, or other tools the agent can use. Separately, Google’s terms say Antigravity stores interaction data and may use it to improve its products and machine-learning technologies.

For confidential material, use the narrowest workspace and permissions you can, review sensitive actions where possible, and check whether your organization permits the service. A Google security key can help protect account sign-in, but it cannot restrict what an agent can read from your computer or disclose through an allowed tool.

What determines whether Antigravity can access private files?

Antigravity’s permissions govern what its agent can do on your computer and through connected tools. Google’s documentation describes different permission systems by platform: the updated system is available on macOS and Linux, while Windows uses the previous system. The controls and defaults are not interchangeable, so check the documentation and settings for the version and platform you actually use.

macOS and Linux permission presets

In the documented macOS/Linux permission system, the three presets make materially different trade-offs:

Preset Documented behavior Practical implication
Default Uses a terminal sandbox and limits ordinary file access to the workspace and temporary directories. More contained than unrestricted access, but files and tools allowed by effective rules remain available. The documented sandbox has no network access by default; commands needing network or host resources request approval unless a command rule permits them.
Request Review Prompts for every terminal command and limits file access to the workspace. Offers a chance to review commands, but approval still matters: review the requested action and its effects before allowing it.
Turbo Allows unrestricted terminal commands and full filesystem access. Creates the broadest local exposure. Avoid it for work involving confidential files unless that access is specifically approved and appropriate.

These are the behaviors described in Google’s permissions documentation, not a guarantee that every installation or future version behaves identically. The separate settings documentation contains terminal-sandbox descriptions for IDE-specific settings that do not align cleanly with the permissions page’s Default description. Because the documentation describes multiple surfaces and is inconsistent on this point, verify the active setting in your installation rather than assuming one universal sandbox default.

Windows uses a different command-permission system

The reviewed Windows settings describe three command modes: Request Review, Proceed in Sandbox, and Always Proceed. Non-workspace access is described as off by default and separately controllable. Those labels and controls do not mean Windows has the same updated permission engine as macOS and Linux; check the Windows settings that are actually available to you.

Why the preset label is not enough

In the documented permission system, actions are governed by Deny, Ask, and Allow lists. Deny blocks an action, Ask pauses for approval, and Allow proceeds without prompting; when rules conflict, the order is Deny, then Ask, then Allow. Rules cover actions such as reading and writing files, running terminal commands, using MCP tools, reading URLs, and executing browser actions.

  • Inspect file rules. Google’s documentation says read_file(*) matches all files on the system. A rule for a directory applies recursively to files within it.
  • Check write access as well as read access. A write grant implicitly gives read access to the same target.
  • Review tools and network access. Web and MCP actions default to Ask in the documented system, but explicit rules can change what requires approval. An allowed browser session or connected tool may expose information beyond the local workspace.
  • Limit the workspace. Keep the agent’s working folder separate from folders containing credentials, personal records, or confidential projects, and avoid granting broader directory access than the task requires.

The effective rules matter more than the name of a preset: a broad allow rule can widen access, while an ask or deny rule can constrain an action. Read the permissions documentation for the rule behavior, then check the rules and connected tools in your installation.

What interaction data does Google say it handles?

Google’s Antigravity Additional Terms of Service say that user data, interaction data, related metadata, and feedback are recorded and stored when Antigravity is running. The terms say interactions may be used to evaluate, develop, and improve Google and Alphabet products and machine-learning technologies, and that Google employees and contractors may access, view, review, and use them.

The terms say, “You will have the option to delete your Interactions.” They describe requesting deletion by emailing antigravity-support@google.com. The reviewed terms do not specify a retention schedule or enumerate every data field, so they do not establish exactly how long each category is retained or provide a complete account of what every feature transmits.

Telemetry is one control, not a complete data-flow inventory

Antigravity’s settings documentation identifies an Enable Telemetry control for interaction collection. In a Google AI Developers Forum reply dated March 18, 2026, a Google representative said disabling it stops collection of interaction data and diagnostic information used to improve the service. That statement describes the telemetry control; it does not establish that every form of service data handling is disabled or override the terms. Check the setting in your installation and consider the terms alongside it.

Does signing in expose Gmail, Drive, or other account data?

The public materials reviewed do not establish the complete Google Account scopes involved in signing into Antigravity. Do not infer that signing in alone gives Antigravity access to Gmail or Drive: the available evidence does not resolve that question. Authentication to an account is distinct from permissions granted to the local agent, browser, or MCP tools, and each should be assessed separately.

TechRadar has reported concerns involving hostile instructions, prompt injection, and possible credential or code exposure through agent actions. This is secondary reporting of potential risks, not proof that every user, version, or permission configuration is affected. It is a reason to scrutinize what the agent can read and which tools it can use—not evidence that a particular exposure will occur.

How to reduce exposure before using Antigravity

  1. Identify your platform and permission system. Confirm whether you are using macOS, Linux, or Windows, and inspect the current permissions and settings for that installation.
  2. Choose the narrowest practical access. Use a dedicated workspace that contains only the files needed for the task. Avoid full-filesystem access and broad directory rules where they are not necessary.
  3. Review effective rules and connected tools. Check read and write rules, terminal behavior, network access, browser actions, and MCP connections. Remove or narrow permissions you do not need; use Ask or Deny where appropriate.
  4. Keep secrets out of the agent’s reach. Do not place passwords, API keys, recovery codes, or confidential documents in an accessible workspace unless your organization has approved that use. Treat an approval prompt as a decision to evaluate, not as a safety guarantee.
  5. Review telemetry and terms. Check whether Enable Telemetry is on, understand what the setting is stated to control, and decide whether the terms’ interaction-data handling is acceptable for your information.
  6. Follow organizational policy. For company, customer, regulated, or otherwise sensitive data, confirm that your organization authorizes this service and its data handling before using it.

What Google Account protections can—and cannot—do

Protecting the account used to sign in is worthwhile, but it addresses a different threat from local agent access. Google recommends running Security Checkup, keeping recovery phone and email options current, reviewing apps linked to your account, using a passkey, and enabling 2-Step Verification. Its guidance favors security keys and Google Prompts over SMS codes as verification choices.

Google says FIDO1 or FIDO2 security keys can be used as a second step for 2-Step Verification. A hardware key used to create a passkey must support FIDO2. Keep another recovery method available in case you lose the key; see Google’s instructions for using a security key and turning on 2-Step Verification.

A stronger sign-in method can reduce the chance of someone taking over your Google Account. It does not prevent an Antigravity agent from reading a permitted local file, acting through an allowed browser session, or sending information through an allowed tool.
