If you want an AI agent for research, browser tasks, office actions, or working across files, the strongest alternative depends on where the work happens: ChatGPT agent suits web and connected-app actions, Claude Research suits research across web and work context, and Claude Cowork is aimed at file-centered work across apps. Antigravity remains worth considering when its scheduled agents, custom skills, Google integrations, or development tools matter to your workflow.

What Google Antigravity does—and why the distinction matters

Google describes Antigravity 2.0 as a platform for orchestrating multiple autonomous agents across projects. Its features include a central command center, dynamically defined subagents, scheduled tasks, deliverable artifacts, customizable skills, project grouping, live voice transcription, and desktop availability on macOS, Windows, Linux, and Googlebook. Its current documentation distinguishes desktop, CLI, SDK, and IDE surfaces. Google presents the desktop app as an asynchronous agent command center, while it describes the IDE as a full-featured AI-powered developer environment. Google Antigravity 2.0 and its documentation therefore point to a broader agent platform, but with a developer-centered product identity.

That does not rule out non-coding tasks. In its November 18, 2025 launch announcement, Google described browser control, asynchronous interaction, and task artifacts such as plans, screenshots, walkthroughs, and browser recordings; it also used background research as an example. Google Antigravity Team called the product “our first product that brings four key tenets of collaborative development together: trust, autonomy, feedback, and self-improvement.” That is Google’s framing, not an independent assessment. Which alternative fits your workflow?

Option Best fit Work surface and strengths described by the provider
ChatGPT agent Research that leads to browser or connected-service actions Visual and text browsers, virtual computer, terminal, APIs, and connectors; users can steer or interrupt work. OpenAI examples include updating spreadsheets, using websites, planning, and scheduling recurring work. OpenAI’s announcement.
Claude Research Research spanning the web and internal work context Anthropic describes web and internal-context search with citations, plus Google Workspace integration for Gmail, Calendar, and Docs. Anthropic’s Research announcement.
Claude Cowork Knowledge work involving files and multiple tools Anthropic positions Cowork for analysts, product managers, operators, and researchers in the Claude desktop app. Its product matrix illustrates comparing vendor PDFs by price and service-level agreements, then putting results in a spreadsheet. This is an example, not a verified performance result. Anthropic’s product matrix.

ChatGPT agent: choose it for browser and connected-app actions

ChatGPT agent is the clearest match when a task involves moving between web research and actions in browser interfaces or connected services. OpenAI says users can steer or interrupt ongoing work, which is useful when a task needs checkpoints rather than an unattended run. Its examples include updating spreadsheets, interacting with websites, planning tasks, and scheduling recurring work. These are OpenAI’s capability descriptions and examples; they do not establish that ChatGPT agent performs better than Antigravity.

OpenAI also reported that ChatGPT agent’s output was comparable to or better than humans in roughly half of cases on an internal benchmark of complex, economically valuable knowledge-work tasks. This is a vendor-reported result from 2025, not a head-to-head comparison with Antigravity and not a claim about every kind of task.

Claude Research: choose it for web research with work context

Anthropic describes Claude Research as searching across the web and internal work context and returning citations. Its announcement also describes Google Workspace integration for Gmail, Calendar, and Docs. This makes Research a candidate when answering a question requires combining external sources with information in work accounts.

Anthropic’s April 15, 2025 announcement described Research as an early beta for Max, Team, and Enterprise users in the United States, Japan, and Brazil. Those are dated availability details, not a dependable statement of current access. Check Anthropic’s current plan and region information before relying on availability.

Claude Cowork: choose it for file-centered cross-app work

Cowork is the more relevant Anthropic option when the work centers on files and spans multiple tools. Anthropic positions it as cross-app knowledge work in the Claude desktop app, with analysts, product managers, operators, and researchers among its intended users. The product matrix’s example—extracting price and service-level information from vendor PDFs and organizing it in a spreadsheet—shows the kind of task it is meant to address; it does not prove how accurately or quickly Cowork will handle your own documents.

How to make the choice

Before choosing, map the job to the actual surface and access you need. These products do not share a single published, current comparison of plans, regions, quotas, operating systems, and enterprise controls, so confirm those details for your account and organization.

  1. Identify the work surface. Decide whether the task mainly involves browser pages, connected apps, desktop files, a CLI or SDK, or a coding IDE.
  2. Name the main job. Separate web research, office actions, file synthesis, recurring monitoring, and software development; a tool that suits one may not suit another.
  3. Check context and integrations. Confirm that the accounts, documents, and services needed for the specific workflow can be connected.
  4. Inspect control and verification. Look for how the product exposes progress and artifacts, what permissions it requests, whether you can intervene, and how you can check the output.
  5. Verify current access and controls. Check supported region, plan, operating system, quota, and any enterprise security requirements before committing.

As a starting point, consider ChatGPT agent for web-interface and connected-app actions, Claude Research for work that combines web and internal context, and Claude Cowork for cross-app file work. Keep Antigravity in consideration when scheduled agents, custom skills, Google integrations, or development work are important.
