What the Q1 2023 report claimed
A November 1, 2022 report said Google’s foldable was tipped to arrive in Q1 2023, citing display-panel shipment reporting and coverage involving analyst Ross Young. That was a forecast, not a date confirmed by Google. Gadgets 360’s report should therefore be read as a pre-launch rumor rather than an announcement or promise.
Earlier reports also show why the schedule was uncertain: in May 2022, 9to5Google reported that the device had been delayed from an earlier expected window. That delay report did not establish a final release date.
Was Pixel Notepad the phone’s name?
“Pixel Notepad” was reported in January 2022 as a possible working name, with “Logbook” said to have been considered earlier. The report explicitly noted that plans could change before an announcement. It was not the final retail name. 9to5Google’s naming report described a possibility, not a confirmed branding decision.

Google ultimately introduced the phone as Pixel Fold. The available record establishes the change in public naming, but does not explain why the reported working name or forecast schedule changed.
When did Google’s first foldable actually come out?
Google announced Pixel Fold on May 10, 2023. In its launch post, Google said, “Google Pixel Fold is now available for pre-order and will begin shipping next month,” wrote George Hwang, Product Manager, Pixel. Google’s announcement is the official launch source. Google’s availability table records Pixel Fold as available through the US Google Store in June 2023. Google’s availability record establishes that US timing; it should not be generalized into a claim about every market.

What the released Pixel Fold was
Google’s support documentation identifies the shipped model as Pixel Fold (2023). It lists a 5.8-inch external display and a 7.6-inch internal folding display with 2208 × 1840 resolution, plus a fingerprint sensor in the power button. These are specifications of the released Pixel Fold, not confirmation that every detail matched what had been rumored under the Notepad name. The name did not become a separate retail phone in the verified launch record: Google’s first foldable was Pixel Fold. The pre-launch “Notepad” label is best understood as a reported possible working name. The sources establish the final name and timing, but do not state the reason behind either change.
