Yes. Apple and Google confirmed a multi-year partnership in which Gemini models and Google cloud technology will help power Apple’s next-generation foundation models, including the technology behind a more personalized Siri. Apple’s assistant remains part of Apple Intelligence—not the Google Gemini app—and Apple says it uses both on-device processing and its Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.
What Apple’s Gemini partnership means for Siri
The claim that Apple’s revamped Siri would “lean” on Gemini is no longer just a report. In a joint statement on January 12, 2026, Apple and Google confirmed a multi-year collaboration: Apple’s next-generation Foundation Models would be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology, supporting future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri. Apple said it selected Google’s technology after evaluation. Google’s joint statement
Apple describes the resulting product as its own Apple Intelligence experience, with Apple Foundation Models custom-built in collaboration with Google and Gemini models. The arrangement does not turn Siri into the standalone Gemini app or make Google the user-facing assistant on Apple devices. Apple integrates the model technology into its own software, devices, and assistant.
What Siri AI is designed to do
In its September 14, 2026 announcement, Apple described Siri AI as able to use personal context, understand what is on screen, answer broader questions using web information, and carry out actions across apps. These are Apple’s stated capabilities, not independently verified performance results.

Apple says Siri AI is integrated across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. A dedicated Siri app syncs conversation history through iCloud. On iPhone, users can invoke Siri by voice or the side button; on iPad and Mac, it is integrated with Spotlight. Apple’s Siri AI announcement
Does Siri send your data to Google?
Apple says Apple Intelligence relies on on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute (PCC) for requests that need more computing power. Apple’s stated policy is that personal data handled by PCC is not stored or accessible to Apple or others during processing. Those are Apple’s privacy commitments; the cited company materials do not establish that an independent auditor has validated every claim about this particular deployment.

Apple’s security engineering description adds that selected demanding workloads, including agentic tool use and complex reasoning, run on Google Cloud systems using NVIDIA GPUs as part of its PCC infrastructure. Apple says the setup uses controls such as stateless computation, restricted runtime access, and verifiable transparency measures. This means Google Cloud infrastructure is involved in some server-side processing, but it does not by itself establish that Google can access the personal data Apple says PCC protects. Siri AI specifically requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device. Apple cautions that feature availability may vary by region, language, and device. It also said Siri AI would initially be unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, and unavailable in China while regulatory requirements were being addressed. Check Apple’s current availability information before relying on these dated rollout details.

Apple says some server-based features, including Siri AI, are subject to daily usage limits. Limits can vary with the feature, request complexity, system demand, and applicable policies. Apple says expanded access will be available for a fee in the future, but its cited announcement does not give a price, start date, or specific usage thresholds.
