To use it, long-press the message, tap the trash icon, then choose Delete for everyone. The reported limit is 15 minutes, and recipients using older app versions may still see the original.
How to delete a sent message for everyone
- Open the RCS conversation in Google Messages.
- Touch and hold the message you sent.
- Tap the trash icon.
- Choose Delete for everyone if it appears. Choose Delete for me to remove the message only from your own conversation.
The delete-for-everyone option was reported rolling out to the stable Google Messages channel on June 18, 2025. 9to5Google’s rollout report says the interface warns: “Messages may still be seen by others on older app versions.”
Which messages can you delete?
The remote-delete control is for RCS conversations; do not assume it works for ordinary SMS or MMS. RCS supports message recall as a client feature, but the GSMA RCS specification says recall is not supported when RCS is unavailable. Google also says RCS availability and features vary by market, operator, and device in its Google Play listing.
Google’s Help Center documents editing sent messages on RCS, SMS, and MMS, but that is a separate feature from deleting a message for everyone. Its sent-message editing guidance says editing expires after 15 minutes, whether or not the recipient has read or replied. That official edit limit is consistent with the 15-minute delete window reported in the feature’s development preview, but it is not itself an official confirmation of the deletion limit.

Why the other person may still see the message
Remote deletion depends on the recipient’s messaging software supporting the change. 9to5Google cautions that people on older Google Messages versions may still see the original message. Also, deletion cannot undo a recipient having already read the message, taken a screenshot, or replied before it was removed.
The feature first appeared in development reporting on March 19, 2025. Android Authority’s APK-teardown report showed separate remote- and local-delete choices and described a 15-minute window; as with any teardown, a planned interface is not proof of a released feature. The later stable-rollout report came from 9to5Google on June 18, 2025.

Delete for everyone versus delete for me
| Choice | What it does | When to use it |

| Delete for me | Removes the message from your own conversation only. | When you want to clean up your view, or the remote-delete choice is unavailable. |
