The feature is not new: Google announced it on December 7, 2021.
How to make a Google Calendar task repeat
In Calendar, create a task or open an existing one to edit it. The exact controls can vary by platform, so use the instructions for the device you are using.
On a computer
- Open Google Calendar task instructions for computer.
- Create or open a task and edit its details. Add a date; dated tasks appear on the calendar grid when the Tasks calendar is enabled.
- Open the repeat setting below the date. Choose a frequency preset or select Custom to configure a schedule.
- If you want the series to end, choose an available end condition, such as a date or number of occurrences. The available choices and labels may vary.
- Save the task.
On Android
- Open Google Calendar’s Android instructions for recurring tasks.
- Create or open a task and edit its details, then open the repeat setting below the date.
- Select a frequency preset or Custom, choose an end condition if needed, and save.
Google describes daily, weekly, monthly, and annual routines as examples of repeating tasks. Custom recurrence is also available; check the controls in your version of Calendar for the schedule options it offers.
What repeating tasks are useful for
A task with a date is visible in Calendar, and adding a date and time can provide reminders. Repetition is useful for work that follows a predictable cadence: Google gives a weekly recap and monthly expense report as examples. See Google Workspace’s Tasks overview.

Unlike creating a fresh task each time, a recurring task establishes a series on the schedule you choose. That makes routine work easier to see alongside other dated commitments.
Limits to know before creating a series
- Calendar does not show every future occurrence at once. Only a limited number appear on the grid at a time; later occurrences appear as time passes.
- Shared tasks and subtasks cannot repeat.
- A recurring task cannot be moved to another task list.
- Stopping a series is final for that series. Google says it cannot be set to repeat again; create a new repeating series if you want recurrence later.
How to change or remove a recurring task
Calendar lets you edit a task’s date or time, change its repetition, mark it complete, or delete it. When deleting a series, you can choose to remove one task, the selected task and following tasks, or all tasks in the series. Review the scope of the change before confirming so you do not remove more occurrences than intended. See Google’s instructions for managing tasks on a computer.

When Google added task recurrence
Google announced repeating tasks on December 7, 2021, saying users could set tasks to repeat and customize recurrence schedules. Google’s announcement said the feature was available to Workspace customers and G Suite Basic and Business customers.
