To add a note, open the saved password in Google Password Manager, choose Edit, enter the note, and save. The menu path differs by device, so follow the steps for your computer, Android phone or tablet, or iPhone or iPad.
Add a note to a saved password on a computer
- Open Chrome and select More (the three-dot menu) in the top-right corner.
- Select Passwords and autofill > Google Password Manager.
- Under Passwords, select the saved password you want to update.
- Select Edit, enter the note, then select Save.
Google also lets you manage passwords saved to your Google Account in another browser at passwords.google.com. Passwords saved only on your device when you are not signed in are not necessarily available there. See Google’s computer instructions.
Add a note on Android
- Open Chrome and tap More > Settings > Google Password Manager.
- Under Search passwords, select the saved password.
- Tap Edit, enter the note in the text box, and tap Save.
Google’s Android instructions show this path.
Add a note on iPhone or iPad
- Open Chrome and tap More > Password Manager.
- Under Saved passwords & passkeys, tap the saved password.
- Tap Edit, enter the note, and tap Done.
See Google’s iPhone and iPad instructions. The final control is Done on iOS; on desktop and Android, it is Save.
What to put in a password note
Google says notes can help you remember account information or details required at sign-in. Treat anything you enter as sensitive: Google states, “Once you add a note, it has the same security protection as a password.” That is Google’s description of the feature, not an independent security assessment. Avoid using notes as a place for recovery codes or other high-value secrets unless you have separately confirmed that this is appropriate for your needs.

If the menu labels look different
Google’s paths are platform-specific, and labels may vary by app version. Use the route for your device rather than combining desktop and mobile menu names. If you cannot find an entry, check that you are viewing the relevant saved-password list in Google Password Manager.
