The Featured badge was later wound down: Google said in August 2026 that nominations had closed and the program would sunset later that year. The 2026 announcement does not confirm that the sunset is complete, and it does not clarify whether the Established Publisher badge remains active.
What Google announced in April 2022
Google announced two Chrome Web Store badges on April 20, 2022. They highlighted different things: Featured assessed an extension, while Established Publisher recognized characteristics of its publisher. Neither badge could be purchased.
Featured: extension quality and user experience
Chrome team members manually evaluated extensions for the Featured badge. Google said reviewers considered whether an extension followed technical best practices, used current platform APIs, respected user privacy, and had a store listing that was clear and helpful. The badge was intended to signal a high standard of user experience and design. Publishers could request a Featured review through the One Stop Support page.
Established Publisher: identity and track record
The Established Publisher badge applied to publishers whose identity Google had verified and who had built a consistent positive track record with Google services while complying with the Developer Program Policy. It was a publisher-level signal, distinct from the Featured badge’s evaluation of an extension.

What the badges could mean for visibility
In its April 26, 2022 report, Chrome Unboxed reproduced a statement attributed to the Google Chrome Web Store team: “Developers who earn these badges may receive higher rankings in search and filtering, and may also see their extensions appear in special promotions both on and off Chrome Web Store.” The statement described possible benefits at the time, not a guaranteed result or a current promise about placement.
What happened to the Featured badge
On August 20, 2026, Google said Featured self-nominations had closed that day and that the badge program would be sunset later in 2026. Google explained that, after raising baseline security and performance review standards, it considered the badge a less meaningful quality signal. It encouraged developers to focus instead on its refreshed extension rating system. The announcement gives a planned sunset, not confirmation that the program had already ended.

Is the Established Publisher badge still available?
Google’s August 2026 announcement about Featured does not state whether the Established Publisher badge remains active. Its current status is therefore unresolved based on that announcement; the Featured program’s announced sunset should not be taken as confirmation that Established Publisher was also discontinued.
