On Discord desktop or in a browser, right-click the server icon and select Leave Server, then confirm. If you own the server and want it to continue without you, transfer ownership before leaving; leaving and deleting are different actions.
Leave a Discord server on desktop or in a browser
- Find the server in the server list.
- Right-click its server icon.
- Select Leave Server.
- Complete the confirmation prompt.
These are Discord Support’s documented desktop and browser instructions in its Guilds FAQ. Menu labels or locations may change, so follow the wording currently shown in Discord if it differs.
Leave a server on mobile
Open the server’s options and look for Leave Server, then follow the app’s prompt. Discord’s official material available here does not establish a precise current sequence of mobile taps for leaving a server, so the exact menu path may vary. Discord’s You Bar FAQ describes mobile navigation but does not document how to leave a server.
If you own the server, transfer ownership before leaving
Leaving removes your account from the server; it does not hand control to another member. If the server should keep running, transfer ownership first. Discord provides separate desktop/browser and mobile instructions in How to Transfer Ownership of a Discord Server. After the transfer, you remain a member, and your access depends on the permissions of your new role. Discord Support cannot reverse a completed transfer.

When the owner is inactive
If a direct transfer is unavailable because the current owner is inactive, Discord Support may consider a transfer request only when all its published eligibility conditions are met:
- The server has at least 100 active members.
- The current owner has not accessed their account for at least one month.
- The requester has been active on Discord within the previous 30 days and has administrator or moderator permissions.
- The server is not monetized.
These are conditions for the support-mediated ownership-transfer exception, not requirements for leaving an ordinary server. See Discord’s Requesting a Transfer of Server Ownership (updated September 12, 2025).

Leaving is not the same as deleting a server
Leaving removes you from the server. Deleting removes the server itself: Discord says only the owner can delete a server, and deletion cannot be restored. If your goal is simply to stop participating while the community continues, leave—or transfer ownership first if you are the owner—instead of deleting it. Discord explains deletion in How do I delete a server?

- Desktop or browser: Right-click the group DM in the DM list and choose Leave Group.
- Mobile: Open the conversation name, enter group settings, and choose Leave Group.
After leaving, you stop receiving messages from that chat and it is removed from your DM list. An existing member must add you back if you want to rejoin.
