Clicking a suspicious Discord campaign link does not, by itself, prove your account was compromised. What matters next is whether you entered a password or code, approved an app, downloaded or ran a file, or see signs of unauthorized account activity. Stop interacting with the campaign, open Discord directly, and follow the recovery steps that match what happened.
First, stop interacting with the link
Do not enter your Discord password, MFA code, payment details, or other personal information on the campaign page. Do not download or run anything it offers, and do not follow links in related direct messages or emails. Open Discord using its app or by typing its official address yourself; do not use the suspicious link to return to your account.
A page that resembles Discord is not necessarily an official Discord login page. If you entered a password there, change that password from Discord itself as soon as possible. If you reused it on other sites, change it on those sites too, using a different password for each.
If you can still sign in, secure the account
- Change your password. On desktop or in a browser, go to User Settings → My Account → Change Password. On mobile, go to avatar → Settings → Account → Password. Use a strong password you do not use anywhere else. Discord’s stated minimum is eight characters, with possible additional requirements in some regions; it recommends longer passwords and using a password manager to generate and store unique ones. If MFA is enabled, Discord will prompt for an MFA code during the password change. Discord’s password guidance explains the reset and change process.
- Set up or review MFA. Discord supports passkeys/security keys, authenticator apps, and SMS. Discord recommends passkeys and security keys, describing them as phishing resistant. Authenticator apps are another supported option. Discord does not recommend SMS because texts can be intercepted and phone numbers can be taken over through SIM swapping. Save your one-time backup codes somewhere secure and separate from your device. Discord’s MFA guide has setup instructions. No MFA method makes an account immune to every form of phishing or takeover.
- Review connected apps. In Discord’s User Settings, open Authorized Apps and revoke access for apps you do not recognize or no longer want connected. A normal webpage click does not necessarily grant a Discord app permission, so review the list rather than assuming an authorization occurred. Discord’s compromised-account guidance includes directions for reviewing authorized apps.
If you cannot sign in, choose the matching recovery route
You forgot the password, but the account email is still yours
Go to Discord’s official login page, enter the email address tied to the account, choose Forgot your password?, and follow the instructions sent to that mailbox. Discord Support says it cannot reset a password on your behalf. Use only the reset email you requested, and do not give anyone the link or code. See Discord’s password-reset instructions.

The account email was changed
Check the original email inbox immediately for Discord’s email-change notification. It contains a Start Account Recovery link whose URL begins https://discord.com/wasntme/. Discord says the link is valid for 48 hours. Using it can revert the email address, log the account out of all devices, require a new password, and remove the account’s phone number and MFA methods; after recovery, add back the phone number or MFA method you use. Do not share the unique link. Discord says Support cannot send a replacement after it expires. Follow Discord’s email-change recovery instructions.
You are locked out by MFA
Use a recovery option you previously set up, such as a saved backup code or another available MFA method. Discord’s MFA guidance identifies backup codes as an important recovery route and says Support cannot remove MFA from an account. If you cannot use your configured options, contact Discord through its support process; do not trust a person in a DM who claims they can bypass MFA for you. Review Discord’s MFA guidance.

Look for signs of actual account activity
Pay attention to concrete warning signs rather than treating the click alone as proof of takeover. These include being unexpectedly logged out, a notice that the account email or password changed, messages or friend requests you did not send, unfamiliar authorized apps, or transactions you did not make. If you see signs of access you did not authorize, secure the account if possible and report suspected compromise to Discord.
Discord directs users who believe an account was compromised or accessed to submit a hacked-account support ticket. Include relevant details and any unauthorized Discord transactions. Discord says its staff will not contact users directly in-app for support asking for personal information, payment, or login changes. If you downloaded or ran a file
If you downloaded a file but did not open it, do not run it; delete it and empty the recycle bin or trash. If you ran a file, or your device behaves abnormally, treat that as a device-security issue in addition to securing Discord. Discord recommends running Windows Defender on Windows to detect potential viruses. Its guidance does not say that a click alone requires a factory reset, an operating-system reinstall, or a paid cleaner. For suspected malware or persistent device problems, use appropriate device-security support rather than installing tools promoted by the campaign.

Report unauthorized Discord transactions through Discord’s support request and follow its billing process for refund requests. Discord warns that requesting a bank chargeback or refund directly for a Discord transaction may lead to account suspension while the matter is investigated. How to reduce the chance of a repeat
- Use a unique Discord password and a password manager to generate and store it. Discord says a password manager can help generate, secure, and use strong passwords for each site.
- Prefer a passkey or security key if it fits your devices and account setup; an authenticator app is also supported. Keep backup codes in a secure place you can reach if you lose your phone or security key.
- Be wary of campaign pages that ask you to sign in, share an MFA code, authorize an app, or download a file to claim a reward. Reach Discord through its app or by entering its address directly when checking account notices.
