A recent Tom’s Guide report says Amazon listed the base 15-inch MacBook Air with M5 for $1,299, describing it as a $200 reduction from a $1,499 reference price. That is not the same as a discount from Apple’s launch price: Apple announced the 15-inch model with a $1,299 U.S. starting price in March 2026. The Amazon offer’s current price, seller, and stock have not been verified, so check the live listing and checkout total before buying.
What the reported $1,299 Amazon offer includes
Tom’s Guide’s early-October 2026 deal report identifies the listing as the base 15-inch MacBook Air with M5: a 15.3-inch display, 16GB of unified memory, and a 512GB SSD. Apple lists those memory and storage capacities for the model. Confirm that the Amazon listing still matches this configuration; a different memory or storage option, seller, or product condition can change the price.
Tom’s Guide described the offer as “was $1,499, now $1,299,” or $200 off that article’s reference price. Apple, by contrast, announced a $1,299 U.S. starting price for the 15-inch M5 model on March 3, 2026, and a $1,199 education price. The $1,499 comparison is the deal article’s stated reference price, not Apple’s announced launch price. Read Tom’s Guide’s Amazon deal report and Apple’s launch announcement.
What to verify before ordering
Because Amazon pricing and inventory can change, the report alone does not establish that the offer is still active or that it is a final chance to buy at this price. Before checkout, check:

Is the 15-inch model the right size?
Apple positions the 15-inch Air as the larger-screen choice for more room to work across apps, while its 13-inch model is aimed at buyers prioritizing portability. The 15-inch display measures 15.3 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 2880 by 1864 pixels. Consider how often you multitask or work with large windows against how much carrying space and weight matter to you; screen size alone does not determine which model is the better purchase.
Key specifications and everyday trade-offs
Apple lists a 500-nit Liquid Retina display, MagSafe 3 charging, a headphone jack, and two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports. If two ports are not enough for your peripherals, account for the possibility of using a hub; no particular accessory is required for the laptop to function.

Apple’s 2026 specifications list battery estimates of up to 18 hours of video streaming and up to 15 hours of wireless web use. These are manufacturer estimates based on Apple’s stated test conditions, not independent test results; actual battery life varies with use and configuration. Apple’s MacBook Air (15-inch, M5) technical specifications detail the test caveats, configuration choices, and included accessories.
The base model has 16GB unified memory and 512GB SSD. Apple also lists memory options of 24GB or 32GB and storage options of 1TB, 2TB, or 4TB. Compare like-for-like configurations when checking prices, and consider whether your typical apps and files justify an upgrade. The box includes a 40W Dynamic Power Adapter (60W maximum) and a two-meter USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable; Apple says fast charging is supported with a 70W or higher USB Power Delivery source.

How to decide whether this is a good buy for you
- Consider it if you want the larger 15-inch workspace, and the verified listing is the base M5 configuration at a price that fits your budget.
- Compare the 13-inch model if carrying size matters more than the extra screen area. Apple positions that model for portability.
- Compare configurations if you routinely work with memory-intensive apps or need more than 512GB of local storage. Make sure any price comparison matches memory, storage, seller, color, and condition.
- Check your workload and alternatives rather than assuming the reported reduction makes this the best value for every buyer. The available information does not establish a benchmark comparison against other laptops.
Apple’s M5 claims and optional coverage
Apple says the M5 MacBook Air supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, with a 10-core CPU and up-to-10-core GPU. Its launch announcement also claims up to four times faster AI task performance than M4 and up to 9.5 times faster than M1; those are Apple’s comparisons, not independent benchmarks, and depend on the workloads and conditions Apple specifies. Apple’s launch release also reports 55 percent recycled content and 50 percent renewable electricity across its supply chain; those are company-published figures.
Apple senior vice president of Hardware Engineering John Ternus said in the launch release, “The new MacBook Air with M5 brings incredible performance and even more capability to the world’s most popular laptop.” That is Apple’s characterization of its product. Apple also offers customers the option to choose AppleCare+ for a new Mac; review its terms and cost separately when deciding on coverage.
