Yes. Gemini can place a call through the Phone app on an Android device when you ask it to call a contact, business, or phone number. A separate feature can speak with some businesses to handle tasks such as checking availability or managing appointments, but it is gradually rolling out and has much stricter requirements. Asking Gemini to dial is not the same as asking it to conduct a whole call for you.
What Gemini can do when you ask it to call
With the Phone connected app, Gemini can use your Android device’s calling app to call a saved contact, a business, or a number you provide. You can ask naturally, for example, “Can you call them?”, “Call [contact full name],” “Can you call [phone number]?” or “Call [business name].” It can also use context from the conversation: you might discuss nearby restaurants and then ask Gemini to call one. A relationship prompt such as “call my sister” depends on that relationship being saved in Gemini instructions.
When Gemini uses the Phone integration, it places the call using the device’s default phone app. The feature is available in the Gemini mobile app for Android, not Gemini on the web, Gemini in Google Messages, or Live chats. Google lists Phone for Android Gemini mobile chat with personal, work, and school accounts, for users age 13 and over, in locations and languages where the Gemini mobile app is supported. Google’s instructions for making calls with Gemini and its Connected Apps availability details describe the applicable surfaces and requirements.
What you need for ordinary call placement
- An Android phone or tablet with an active mobile phone plan.
- The Gemini mobile app, including if you use Gemini as your mobile assistant.
- Phone permission for the Google app.
- Contact information available from signed-in devices if you want Gemini to call a saved contact.
If Gemini does not select the Phone app automatically, include @Phone in your prompt and follow the connection steps. To make device contacts available, turn on “Save contact info from your signed-in devices” in Gemini settings. Google says Contacts permission can help Gemini call device contacts that are not synced to your Google Account, while Call Logs permission can help match a request to the right person. Those permissions support contact matching; Google lists Phone permission as required for the integration.

When Gemini can handle a business call
Google separately documents “Ask Gemini to handle your everyday phone calls.” Rather than simply dialing, this feature can speak with a business to ask about opening hours, product availability, or service quotes; book, confirm, or manage appointments and reservations; navigate phone menus; and wait on hold. Give it a specific task and the relevant details, such as dates, times, preferences, and acceptable alternatives. You can include @Call for me in the request. These are supported task categories, not a guarantee that a business can be reached or that every request will be completed.
As of October 7, 2026, Google describes this as a gradual rollout with narrow eligibility. The user must be at least 18 and in the United States, use a Pixel 11 with a US SIM, sign in to Gemini, have a Google AI subscription and the Public Beta version of Phone by Google, have the latest Gemini app, and set the device language to English. The feature currently calls only US phone numbers, and eligible users may still not have access while rollout continues. Calls use the device’s mobile network and phone number; standard carrier rates apply.

Disconnect Phone or change permissions
The Phone app is designed to work automatically with Gemini mobile. You can disconnect it in Gemini’s Connected Apps settings. On Android, manage the Google app’s Phone permission there as well; Contacts and Call Logs permissions are optional aids for contact access and matching.

Choose whether Gemini can call from a locked phone
In Gemini’s lock-screen settings, switch “Make calls and send messages without unlocking” on or off. Even when this is enabled, some tasks may still require you to unlock the phone. Google explains the lock-screen behavior in its guidance for Gemini on a locked phone.

Know the limits
- Use the device’s calling app directly for emergency services; Google says not to ask Gemini to make an emergency call.
- The Phone integration cannot accept or reject incoming calls.
- Android users can ask Gemini to make calls with Keep Activity off, but requests that rely on other apps or Google services may fail. For example, calling a nearby pizza place may depend on Maps.
- Some actions the Phone app integration does not support may still be available through Google Assistant.
