The fix depends on the transaction type: a sender may be able to cancel a pending payment, a bank-card decline goes to the card issuer, and a pending merchant charge should be handled differently.
Identify the transaction before troubleshooting
Open Wallet, select Apple Cash, and review the transaction status and details. Also check the related Messages conversation if the payment was sent or received there. Apple Cash transactions can be person-to-person payments, purchases from merchants, Apple Services or Apple Store charges, or outbound transfers to a bank account or eligible debit card. The same status word does not mean the same thing in each case.

For a person-to-person payment, the payment screen can show that Apple Cash covered part of the amount and a debit card in Wallet funded the remainder. Ask the sender to check those funding details if the recipient cannot find the payment. Apple Support explains how to review an Apple Cash transaction.
Apple Cash is available in the United States on eligible devices. Apple says the service is provided by Green Dot Bank, Member FDIC, with Apple Payments Services LLC acting as a service provider to the bank. See Apple Cash availability and support information.

If a person-to-person payment is pending
A pending person-to-person payment means the recipient has not accepted it. The sender should open Wallet, tap Apple Cash, select the pending transaction, and tap Cancel Payment if that option is still available.
If Wallet shows the payment as sent and completed, it cannot be canceled. Apple Support says, “If the payment says Sent, and the Status says Completed, you can’t cancel the payment.” If the payment went to the wrong person, Apple recommends asking that person to send the money back. Apple’s transaction guidance covers these status distinctions.
If the recipient must accept manually
When the recipient has manual acceptance turned on, they need to open the Messages conversation and tap Accept. Apple gives the recipient seven days to accept; if they do not, the money automatically returns to the sender. Apple’s send-and-receive instructions explain acceptance and setup.

If a payment is declined or will not send
Follow these checks for a person-to-person send or receive problem. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance does not identify one universal cause for declines, so use the displayed error and account details rather than assuming a particular balance or setting is responsible. Apple’s send-and-receive troubleshooting page provides the full checklist.
- Check for an outage. Review Apple’s System Status page for Apple Cash service issues.
- Check the device and connection. Update the device software, confirm it is eligible for Apple Cash, verify Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity, and restart the device.
- Check account setup. Confirm the same Apple Account is being used for iCloud and iMessage.
- Check account status and identity. Look for a restriction or lock, and complete any identity-verification request shown in Wallet.
- Check recipient eligibility and limits. Confirm the recipient is eligible and using supported software, and check whether a sending or receiving limit has been reached.
If the message says the bank declined the debit card selected to fund the payment, contact the bank or card issuer. If the sender used Apple Cash plus a debit card, the card issuer may need to address only the card-funded portion.
If an incoming payment seems missing
Check Latest Transactions in Wallet and the Messages conversation. The payment may be waiting for the recipient to accept it, or the recipient may not yet have Apple Cash set up, may need to verify their identity, or may not meet Apple Cash eligibility requirements.

Ask the sender to review the transaction status and funding details in Wallet. If the payment remains pending because you have not accepted it, use the acceptance steps above; an unaccepted payment returns to the sender after seven days. Apple’s instructions for sending and receiving Apple Cash cover setup and acceptance.
If a merchant charge is pending, incorrect, or unrecognized
Do not use the person-to-person cancellation steps for a merchant authorization. A pending charge can differ from the final amount—for example, after a gas purchase or when a restaurant tip is added. For an incorrect pending merchant charge, Apple says to allow four business days for it to clear. If it clears and is still incorrect, contact the merchant. Apple’s transaction guidance distinguishes merchant charges from Apple Cash payments to people.

If the issue is a purchase or subscription billed by Apple, use Apple’s separate refund request process at reportaproblem.apple.com. That is not the same support route as a charge from a third-party merchant.
If Apple Cash says the account is restricted, locked, or under review
Read the account message in Wallet and follow any identity-verification prompts or other next steps it provides. Apple says an account review can take up to two business days. A restricted account may still allow some purchases or transfers; a locked account cannot send or receive money, add money, make Apple Pay purchases, or transfer money to a bank. If the account is restricted and Apple provides no further instructions, contact an Apple Cash Specialist. Apple explains restricted and locked Apple Cash accounts.

These waiting periods apply to money leaving Apple Cash, not to a pending payment between people. Use the transfer type shown in Wallet to choose when to escalate:

Contact the right support team
- Bank-declined debit card: Contact the bank or card issuer.
- Incorrect merchant charge: Wait for the pending charge to clear, then contact the merchant if the amount remains wrong.
- Apple Cash account or transaction issue: Contact an Apple Cash Specialist at Green Dot Bank.
- Apple-billed purchase or subscription: Use Apple’s refund request flow at reportaproblem.apple.com.
