Those are different actions: Apple documents feature controls, but does not establish that deleting the app removes all Apple Intelligence models from your device.
Turn off Apple Intelligence features in Settings
Apple’s iPhone User Guide says you can turn off Siri AI, summarization features and other Apple Intelligence features. The controls are feature-specific rather than one universal switch for deleting Apple Intelligence. - Turn off Siri AI.
- Turn off summaries in Messages, email and notifications, and turn off priority notifications.
- Change Mail Smart Replies and voicemail suggestions.
Open Settings and use the relevant feature’s settings page to change its control. Apple’s guide lists the available controls and their menu paths; the exact options you see depend on your software version and device.
How turning off Siri AI differs from turning off summaries
Siri AI and summarization features have separate controls. If you want to stop notification summaries but keep Siri AI, change the summary setting rather than assuming that turning off Siri AI also disables every other Apple Intelligence feature. Conversely, changing a summary setting does not by itself turn off Siri AI. A recent guide also describes separate controls in iOS 27: MacRumors: How to Turn Off Apple Intelligence in iOS 27.

Delete Image Playground without confusing it with Apple Intelligence
Deleting Image Playground removes that app from the Home Screen or device, depending on the deletion option available to you. It is an app-level action, not a documented way to remove every Apple Intelligence feature or underlying model. A MacRumors guide from December 13, 2024 describes deleting the app on iOS 18, but that older instruction should not be treated as the current route for every iPhone: MacRumors: How to Delete Image Playground App on iPhone.
Apple’s current support guide explains how to turn off or restrict features; it does not describe a supported procedure for deleting all on-device Apple Intelligence models. It also does not state how much storage, if any, deleting the app or turning off a feature will recover. Do not assume either action removes all related data or background processes.

Check whether your iPhone has these controls
Apple Intelligence is not available on every iPhone. Apple says access depends on having an Apple Intelligence-enabled device, and some features also depend on language and region. Its current iPhone User Guide identifies iOS 27 and describes Siri AI as beta, with language and regional limits: Apple iPhone User Guide.
