It may make an older box feel less cluttered and more personal, but there is no published benchmark showing that Monet makes older devices faster. The practical question is whether your box runs Android TV or Google TV on Android 8.0 or newer—and whether its Home button behaves as you want.
What Monet changes—and what it does not
Monet is a third-party launcher for Android TV and Google TV. It changes the home screen: how apps, rows, favorites, widgets, and backgrounds are arranged. It does not replace the television’s operating system or the streaming apps installed on the box.
The developer describes Monet as a Material You launcher whose theme can draw colors from the wallpaper. Its official listings describe adjustable launcher rows, app artwork, favorites, folders, profiles, per-app PIN locks, screensavers, autostart options, and settings backup. The Google Play listing also names weather and ambient live wallpapers, custom image and video backgrounds, Reddit wallpapers, Aerial Views integration, movie-poster mode, adjustable app grids, hidden apps, icon packs, Now Playing and network/Bluetooth widgets, Continue Watching, Live TV and HDMI inputs. These are listed features, not a promise that every feature works on every device. Monet’s GitHub distribution page and Google Play listing have the current details.
Can Monet run on your older Android TV box?
The stated minimum is an Android TV or Google TV device running Android 8.0 (API 26) or newer. Check the box’s Android version before installing: the age of the hardware alone does not establish compatibility. The Play listing names devices including Shield TV, Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, Xiaomi Mi Box, onn 4K, and televisions from Sony, TCL, Hisense, and Philips, but manufacturer-specific launcher behavior can still differ by model and software version. The repository’s compatibility and installation notes and the live Play listing are the references for current support.

Install Monet from Google Play or the official APK
Use Google Play if Monet is available for your device. If it is not, the developer documents sideloading the official signed APK. The repository says it does not include the source code.
- Check the Android version. Confirm that the box is running Android TV or Google TV on Android 8.0/API 26 or newer.
- Try Google Play first. Search for Monet Launcher on the TV and install it if the listing offers it for your device.
- For sideloading, get the latest release. Download the
monet-x.x.x.apkfile from the official Monet GitHub Releases page. - Install the APK. Use a TV file manager or ADB, and allow installation from unknown sources when the device prompts for it. Follow the repository’s instructions for your chosen route.
- Choose and test the home screen. Open Monet and check the device’s Home-button behavior, app navigation, and standby/wake behavior before relying on it as your everyday launcher.
If an update fails with a signature error, the developer’s instructions say to uninstall the existing com.klevico.monet package and install the new APK. Uninstalling removes the app, so check whether you need to preserve or recreate its settings first.

Will the Home button open Monet?
That depends on the device and its software. Monet’s Google Play description says an optional AccessibilityService detects Home-key presses and launcher-window changes to help keep Monet active after pressing Home, after the stock launcher appears, or after standby. The listing says Monet also works without this service. It does not guarantee identical Home-button behavior on every box, television, or Android version. Test the Home button and wake-from-standby behavior on your own device; if Monet does not stay active, consult the device-specific setup guidance rather than assuming a setting will be identical across models. The app listing describes the service and its intended role.
Does Monet make Android TV faster?
There is no published benchmark in the cited official sources quantifying a speed improvement on old Android TV boxes. Google Play calls Monet “Smooth even on older TV boxes and sticks,” but that is the developer’s claim, not a measured result. A cleaner layout can make a box feel more responsive to use by reducing visual clutter; that is different from demonstrating faster app launches, smoother video playback, or improved system performance. Treat “feels brand new” as an individual impression, not a general performance guarantee.

Free features, Premium, and privacy disclosures
Google Play marks Monet as offering in-app purchases. The listing says core features are free and an optional one-time Premium unlock adds advanced customization. It does not establish a stable price for every market, so check the live store page before deciding. Google Play’s Monet listing is the source for current purchase details.
The Play description says the optional accessibility service cannot read screen contents and that service data is not stored, uploaded, sold, or shared. Separately, the Play Store data-safety section reports that the developer does not share data with third parties, lists device or other IDs among possible collected data types, says data is encrypted in transit, and says deletion can be requested. These are developer-provided store disclosures, not an independent privacy audit.

Is Monet the right launcher for your box?
Monet is worth considering if your device meets the Android requirement and you want more control over the home screen—especially its rows, backgrounds, widgets, or profiles. Before switching, focus on three practical checks:
- Compatibility: Verify Android TV or Google TV and Android 8.0/API 26 or newer.
- Remote behavior: Confirm that Home, app navigation, and waking from standby work as expected on your exact device.
- Features and cost: Check the live listing for device-specific availability and whether the advanced customization you want requires Premium.
Google Play lists Monet as updated September 27, 2026. Its marketplace counter showed 50K+ downloads and 4.7 stars from 2.65K reviews when accessed October 7, 2026; those figures can change and say nothing by themselves about speed on a particular box. See the current listing.
